- Highly scenic and peaceful site in the Alps
- A short drive to Cuneo and Piedmont's plentiful wineries
- Spectacular views and pick your own pitch
All about an alpine setting? Alpine this site most certainly is, set a mere half an hour’s drive from the pretty piazzas of the Piedmont region’s Cuneo, surrounded most spectacularly by the wooded peaks of the Cottian Alps and in a peaceful countryside setting, with easy access to tons of hiking and cycling trails around the Maira valley and the Ciciu del Villar nature reserve and less than an hour-and-a-half’s pootle from the French border.
Due to its beaut mountain setting, Camping Villar is highly popular with active guests looking to get sporty with hiking and cycling excursions and speedy mountain bike trails, as well as with scene seekers for its utterly cracking views (time to spy the site pics).
Culture vultures and foodies can easily get stuck into sightseeing and sampling local gastronomy too from here, with days out exploring Saluzzo, Alba (famed for its white truffles) and the vineyards around the UNESCO-listed Langhe hills all within just over an hour’s drive: save plenty of space, for the area is dotted with small family-run restaurants serving the best of the Piedmont region’s tasty traditional cuisine.
This site is quiet and superly well-maintained, and its modest facilities – which include a sanitary block, a laundry room and internet access – spot on for simple stays maximising what’s around its beaut locale. If the helpful and friendly site team aren’t around at reception when you arrive, just grab yourself a shaded spot to pitch up at, and if they are, pick their brains about what first to tick off your holiday list.

The beaut lands around Camping Villar abound with trails to hike and bike along, around the nearby mountains, woods, and in the crackingly scenic Maira valley. An hour-and-a-quarter’s pootle from the site is also the Ciciu del Villar nature reserve, famed for its mushroom-shaped natural rock formations and also a highly popular spot with walking sorts.
The Alps, with the Monviso massif and the hills of UNESCO-listed Langhe, Roero and Monferrato, covers most of the Piedmont region, along with the vast plain traversed by the Po, Tanaro, and other rivers. Make a beeline for the Maritime Alps Nature Park for spectacular views, a cooling dip in a mountain lake or a clamber up climbing routes.
Also splendidly for foodies, the Langhe, Roero and Monferrato hills are covered in wineries too, and the area is famed for its cheeses and truffles.
