General

  • Family-friendly forest site, a 10 minute-drive from Schloß Holte
  • 10 minutes from Safariland Stukenbrock; hiking and bike trails nearby
  • Easy access: close to the A33 and 15 minutes' walk from a rail station

Wooded rural surrounds and handy travels too – a most pleasing combo to find rolled into one site. Splendid Schloß Holte-Stukenbrock site Camping Jägerkrug is that very place, located on the edge of a forest and on the banks of the Furlbach river, with easy access to the autobahn (a couple of minutes’ drive away) and a train station (a 15-minute walk).

Equally handy are the local town of Schloß Holte (10 minutes’ drive), with its range of supermarkets, shops and places to eat and the family-friendly days out at Safariland Stukenbrock: if it's fearsome beasts you seek, this is likely to be a roaring success.

Wandering through the surrounding countryside is on the cards too, thanks to a bunch of scenic walking and bike trails nearby. These include the X3 long-distance trail (aka the Diemel-Ems-Weg), which runs through the pleasant Furbach Valley, and an abundance of more easygoing nature trails for folk who don't fancy straying quite so far.

Facilities on site include a playground, bike hire and a restaurant that serves up all manner of dishes, drinks and takeaways throughout the day. Also available are hot-water showers and a laundry area with washing machine and tumble dryer to aid with any cleaning up after your days out.

Please note

Your dog must be tattooed or microchipped.

Single-sex bookings of 100 or more people (couples and immediate family members excepted) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

On top of the electric hook-up connection fee, electricity is metered on site at €0.60 per kWh and must be paid at check-out.

The fact that we are no longer there.

    Disliked:

We arrived here to find 4 grumpy men drinking together at the 'bar' but nobody on reception. When I asked who was in charge they began to argue in German. I said that we had a reservation, but they said not. Eventually one of them said "Do what you want. I don't care."
We were so hot and tired that we found a pitch and hooked our camper up. One of the men came by and I asked him if he wanted us to settle up, but he said that they were just residents and some of them had been ripping the owner off, so he wasn't prepared to take money from us. He said the owner was coming the next day and would come and see us.
The owner never showed up. There were no staff on site, it was run down and many pitches had been abandoned by residents leaving behind toys, sheds, broken chairs and tables.
The toilets were disgusting, especially the mens'. My husband and son refused to use them. The ladies' were better, but they were locked the morning we left. The showers were relatively new, but you needed a token to use them, and of course, there was nobody around to provide them. There were no Covid protocols in place and we were surrounded by tall trees with dangerous dead branches.
We sent photos of the site to our friends and jokingly referred to the place as 'Stalag 17'. They suggested that we begin digging a tunnel and let the soil out from the bottom of our trousers.
It's all experiences of life, I suppose, but not one I would wish to repeat. It has however given us a new benchmark with which to judge all other sites.

Es gibt absolut nichts positives über diesen Platz zu berichten. Eine absolute Katastrophe. Völlig heruntergekommen.

Noch nie habe ich so dreckige, kaputte Sanitäranlagen gesehen wie hier!

Local attractions

Safariland Stukenbrock, a 10-minute drive away, is the place to get up close and personal with over 600 animals, many of which are housed in spacious drive-through enclosures. If keeping your eyes peeled for fearsome beasts doesn't provide enough adrenaline for one day, there's an on-site amusement park as well. Of an avian persuasion? Try Heiligenkirchen Bird Park (half an hour away).

Sporting facilities are also on hand for active sorts: Senne Golf Club is 10 minutes away, and there are watersports days to be had at Wasserski Paderborn (which also has wakeboarding) 15 minutes away. Aching muscles and bruised bods can be soothed at Westfalen-Therme, a thermal baths with kids' pool and wellness area (25 minutes).

If you stick around in Paderborn, make sure to visit its cathedral, computer museum and Schloß Neuhaus, a splendid baroque castle surrounded by well-tended parkland. All of these, as well as Paderborn's twice-weekly market, are within a 25-minute drive.
