  • Welcoming park with wine tasting on site
  • Heated pool, waterslide, daily activities, sports and theme nights
  • In the Beaujolais wine area and 30 minutes' drive from Lyon
If a campsite is in the Beaujolais wine area, what a corking idea it is to offer tasting of its vinos right on site. This is what cleverly happens at Camping Les Portes du Beaujolais in Anse, where Valerie and her knowledgeable team have added a selection of local wines for tasting to the comfy and welcoming reception area. (You should of course later venture into the French countryside to find more local brews of your very own.) Other options to while away the hours at Camping Les Portes du Beaujolais are splashing around in the private pool (heated, covered and with waterslide) or in the swimming lake, or getting stuck into one of the many sporting activities like football, volleyball, table tennis or pétanque; kids have a paddling pool, indoor playroom and outdoor playground. Creative and sports activities are run by staff daily in July and August and theme evenings and other events by night. The site also has a snack-restaurant and sells essentials like fresh bread, groceries and local produce in its shop. The swimming lake is available for fishing too, with more angling locally at the Saône and Azergues rivers.

Local attractions

As might have been mentioned, Camping Les Portes du Beaujolais is in the Beaujolais wine area, between the south of Burgundy and the north of the Côtes du Rhone and best known for its Le Beaujolais Nouveau. Ten vineyards are on the Beaujolais wine route to visit, spread between Mâcon and Lyon adjoining the hills of the Beaujolais; take time to see the area's Middle Ages châteaux like the Château de Montmelas too. The UNESCO World Heritage City of Lyon 30 minutes' drive away has days' worth of old buildings to see, including the hilltop Roman amphitheatre and the Fourvière church. This is a foodie city too and probably the best known gastronomy centres in France, with many bouchon restaurants serving Lyonnaise cuisine like roast pork, duck pâté and sausages.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked: Space and set up. Amenities were good, mind half were closed. Find this strange as a lot of Brits take late holidays, however not just this site. Staff were good although did not see a lot of them as no need. We needed vet for checks prior to returning home - there is a great one 10 mins walk from the site. Sorted and dealt with immediately, she was great. Went into town and to one of local bars, food and drink very good x

Disliked: Nothing

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked: not much. the locality was ok

Disliked: lack of facilities. in USA and Australia campgrounds have a kitchen area for tents, and have benches and tables for general use. also bbq areas and fire pits. not this place. and the shower facilities, clean but 20 seconds is not enough to even get wet. and thats about all the push button allows AND then there is the electricity that we paid for ( 3days) however despite buying cables could not use as need three point French cables at the site. given one access for wifi only, couldn't be bothered asking for another ( 2 people) Also the freeway is right near the boundary and the constant noise all night made for 3 bad night sleeps. and I will not even mention the Police party that was very loud till 9.230 pm. so not sure why all the glowing reviews? maybe people need to travel more.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked: Lovely location right next to the river. A gate from the site leads directly out onto the river, you will find the gate code on the map you are given. Lots of sanitary facilities Large pitches, we went right to the back of the site away from the play areas and pools. Would be a great site for people with young families.

Disliked: We booked this site purposely because they advertised wine tasting, when we arrived the staff didn't know what we were talking about. The site is pretty much directly off the motorway, you have to pick your pitch carefully because the road noise is loud.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked: The outdoor pool, we toured around France and it was 34 degrees the warmest here in comparison to all other stops (which were also warm). We didn't try the indoor pool. We didnt have any issues on our stay, we were only there for one night,
