Campsites in L'Ain

9 bookable campsites in L'Ain Sorted by our favourites

We’d say ‘pretty primely positioned’ about pretty much all the regions in France, but we have a particular fondness for the placement of L’Ain in the Rhône-Alpes. It’s between the Saône Valley (fishing!) and the Alps (skiing!); Rhône and its capital Lyon are a hop to the west, and its north-eastern tip touches the Swiss border for day trips to Geneva should you wish to boast after camping in L’Ain that you’ve been ‘around Europe’. (Geneva and Lyon are only 160km apart, so zip to them both from a L’ain campsite for maximum ‘I’ve been camping in Europe’ effect.)

We’d say ‘pretty prime’ about the landscapes of the Ain too, by which we mean ‘very varied and ready for any activity that floats your boat’. The geography of L’Ain ranges from the mountains of Jura (more skiing!) to the thousand or so lakes of the Dombes plateau where birdwatchers, anglers and sailors twitch to get to each year; cyclists can feel pumped up at over 1500km of bike trails, and cities and towns like Bourg-en-Bresse and Pérouges are pretty prime for historical highlights, museums and more boasting via scenic snaps…
