Large outdoor pool and solarium

General

  • Wooded site directly opposite Avignon on the island of Barthelasse
  • Wine tasting tours around the vineyards of the Côtes du Rhône
  • Free ferry shuttle over to Avignon, plus bike rental for city tours

How does one fancy regular riverboat cruises to the French theatre capital, plus the addition of a scenic setting opposite the UNESCO-listed Palais des Papes, easy access to all the sights of medieval Avignon... plus yoga classes and massage treatments on site?

You're in luck, because Camping du Pont d'Avignon has all of the above and a good bit more. Set across a wooded land of almost eight hectares, this site is minutes from the city centre on the island of Barthelasse, and operates a regular free ferry shuttle directly over to Avignon city centre. Alternatively, rent a bike on site for slow pedals around Avignon's Old Town.

The playground, paddling pool and kids' club activities like face painting and fun outdoor games should keep the tiddlers amused, while grownups spend their days luxuriating around the roomy solarium that frames the large outdoor pool. Yet more leisure time on site can be filled with games of ping pong, tennis and volleyball, plus no French site would be complete without a pétanque court...

If all that relaxing takes its toll and you feel you need a good old stretch or a gentle pummel, then the yoga classes and massage treatments offered on site are on hand to keep you supple enough to sightsee over the following days.

Food and drink is sorted at the bar-restaurant and grocery store, and the restaurants of Avignon are within easy reach for when you fancy sampling the city's fine cuisine.

Please note

Twin axle vehicles are not permitted on site.

The outdoor swimming pool is open between 15/05 and 15/09 (subject to weather conditions).

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Entertainment and activities are available between 06/07 and 30/08.

Discount cards and gift vouchers cannot be applied to bookings made via Pitchup.com.

Local attractions

Right across the river is the UNESCO-listed ancient Old Town of Avignon, filled with well-preserved medieval ramparts, the famed palatial papal home Palais des Papes, Pont d’Avignon, and the 12th-century cathedral Notre Dame des Doms.

Also around these parts are Côtes du Rhône vineyards: take a wine-tasting tour and learn how vintners cultivate their crops and concoct their quaffable vins, or for a less boozy intro to the area, just take a bike and cycle around these scenic lands through many a pretty Provençal village.

Horse riding and hiking in the Cévennes mountains are within easy reach too, as are La Ferme aux Crocodiles reptile farm and Barben Zoo, both around 70 kilometres from the site in opposite directions.
