General

  • Family-friendly site an easy stroll from a sandy Mediterranean beach
  • In Camargue Regional Natural Park, 40 minutes' drive from Arles
  • Waterpark (pools and slide), snack bar, grocery shop and spa discount

You can feel the sea breeze wafting across the site at Camping la Brise – a sure giveaway that, yes indeed, you’re very close to the coast. In fact, this family-friendly spot in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur area is less than a five-minute stroll from Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer’s sandy beach (and several kilometres of sand beyond that…).

If you’ve a limited appetite for sitting on the sand, saddle up for beachy horse rides in town, or in high season sign up for sailing lessons at the harbour. Or you might even consider turning away from the beach to explore the rest of your surrounds – a fine idea, given that the site’s in the Camargue Regional Natural Park and thus within easy reach of lakes, salt flats and colonies of flamingos and wild horses.

Want the water even closer? Spend an afternoon (or two, or three) at the on-site waterpark – it stretches out over several outdoor pools, a paddling pool and a waterslide, so there’s plenty of space for splashing. Games of volleyball and pétanque await for when you need to dry off, as does whatever’s in progress at the multisports field.

If you can't treat yourself on hols, when can you? With that in mind, ask on site for details of discounts on local spa treatments, then sashay back for snacks and drinks on the bar terrace back at base. Or perhaps the other half might cook you dinner? If that's on the cards, it’s a cinch to pick up all the bits one needs at the grocery store on site.

Please note

Units longer than 8 metres are not allowed.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

The outdoor swimming pool is open between 30/05 and 15/10 (subject to weather conditions).

Very close to a lovely town. Things to do out the site in the Camargue. Friendly snack bar staff. Large pools for children and by a nice beach. Plenty of activities for older children.

    Disliked:

Although we booked well in advance we were given a very small pitch completely inadequate for our request. Asked for a new pitch but as it is very busy, with reception looking very flustered and campers queuing a long time, we were told that there were no places left. I had to explain that there was no room to put our tent up properly for a while before we were offered a place for the the next night. When I returned the next day though this was not acknowledged at all and again we were told there was no space, despite me telling them people were leaving pitches more suitable for our tents. It took a very long time to negotiate a more suitable pitch, in between finding another very unsuitable pitch, before we found a more pleasant area, but no apologies. The place is very overcrowded and it seems the campsite has tried to squeeze as many people in as possible, which leaves the site resembling a refugee camp. The ground is very hard and dry so will need heavy duty pegs if in a tent. There is no shaded areas and can get quite windy. It is quite noisy into the night with parties and discos near the pools but the rule of quiet after 11pm is enforced by security around the site. The site is probably better suited for families with older children / teenagers and with camper vans.

The pool and beach were great. The shop was good stocked all supplies needed for a reasonable price and friendly workers. Show s were clean however you had to push a button that lasted 4 seconds until you had to push again.

    Disliked:

When we arrived they couldn't find booking. They never heard of pitchup. After about 1/2 hour they sent us to the site which had somebody already on it who refused to move. Wife went back to reception and they attempted to find us another site. We got another site that was dirt and no shade. To their credit the staff were really helpful and they tried there best to fix the situation.

Swimming pools. Lack of crowds. Good sized level pitch. Walking distance from the town with good choice of restaurants. Safe beach. Clean spacious toilet block.

    Disliked:

Staff camping in the middle of the campsite, getting up for work before 7am and playing their radio. They also spoke in derogatory terms about the holiday makers (particularly the English). This is a shame because their negativity and lack of consideration for others spoiled what was otherwise a very enjoyable stay.

Local attractions

You can't possibly come here and not see something of the Camargue Regional Natural Park, wending your way through the wetlands in search of wildlife. If you don't happen upon the flamingos the area's famed for, wing it over to the Pont de Gau bird park (five minutes’ drive), where sightings are a sure thing.

If you're more intrigued by what might be swimming beneath the surface, seek out Seaquarium (35 minutes) to see seals, sharks and other sea dwellers. On your return, aim to have a stop in Aigues-Mortes to wander around the old city walls (huge) and model railway museum (tiny).

Such scenic surrounds inevitably draw arty types to the area, and so it was that Vincent Van Gogh arrived in Arles (40 minutes), a place he found most productive for painting. Head over there these days and you can see the Yellow House where he lived and view some of his works at the Fondation Vincent van Gogh Arles. A huge amphitheatre and other Roman sites to roam around are also in town.
