General

  • In the 'golden triangle' including Cannes, Nice and Menton
  • Sunny swimming pool and solarium
  • Restaurant, motorhome service station and regular entertainment

What a lot there is to do in – and around – Camping au Vallon Rouge in the Alpes-Maritimes... If you've never been to this region, get there with some haste, as it's the glitzy slice of French countryside and coast that includes film capital Cannes, Nice and Menton, Juan les Pins, Saint-Paul-de-Vence, Antibes, the French Riviera… best book for a couple of weeks of vacance to ensure seeing the lot.

Set greenly in a shaded locale between sea and mountains, Vallon Rouge is about nine kilometres from the beach at Cagnes-sur-Mer and within easy reach of several other sands along this part of coast. It's also set close to the Loup river – just in case the beach is a tad too far for your watery tastes – where wild swimming and fishing are easy to land.

Et oui, there is rather a lot to do on site too… such as starting off at the big (19m x 8m) pool, or the paddling pool for les enfants, or the solarium for sunbathing and reading… Want to dive into more? Delve into getting your FFESSM diving certificate at the campsite pool.

Landwise, Vallon Rouge has crazy golf, pétanque and volleyball courts, table tennis, bike hire, a playground and a games room with pinball machines, video games and table football. Entertainment including dance and theme evenings, big-screen karaoke and dinners with shows run all season along with a kids' club.

Le cuisine is covered from breakfast to dinner at the snack restaurant where the qualified team dishes up traditional hot meals from the region, pizza, fast food and takeaway. A barbecue area and a food shop are to hand too if you'd rather sort your own food; either way, the bar is open all day.

Also on site are modern bathroom units, baby bathrooms, washing machines, tumble dryers and a motorhome service station. Wifi is available at the cyber café.

On top of all this, all is secure on site: access to Vallon Rouge is allowed to holidaymakers and their guests only, and all is managed safely by the use of CCTV and individual magnetic keys.

Pretty site, friendly staff although not very much English spoken 04/09/2017

We all liked the surroundings and the babbling brook which ran behind our caravan, the children really liked the pool as well.

    Disliked:

The caravan was not very well equipped for a family of 5, we had very little cutlery and cups to drink from. We ended up buying some. There was no bed linen although I paid to hire it. The entertainment was very loud and went on until 11.30pm every night except 1 and my children struggled to sleep. There were very little staff who spoke English or who understood us so we felt a little isolated at times, the site is very French oritainted. It was not explained to us that we needed to clean the caravan on departure. I was also telephone and offered an upgraded caravan which would off accommodated us a little better having 5 beds but this did not happen either and one us ended up sleeping on the sofa. As with all typical caravans not much in the way of comfortable seating. But that said we made the best of it and did have a relaxing holiday.

Receptionist was lovely and very helpful when I had an allergic reaction to a bite.
Food was lovely at the restaurant.
Pool was nice and was quiet at lunchtime.
Location was good for us, in between cannes and nice and a good distance from the gorges.

    Disliked:

Washing amenities weren't very modern and was dirty more often than not. The showers were warm but some only had water for 1 second, meaning you had to press the button a lot to wash your hair etc.
Entertainment was aimed more to the French.
WiFi was quite expensive for the week, I think 20 euros per device for one week.

Great location by the river, friendly staff, restaurant (with home made desserts) and bar on site, 25m by 7m swimming pool with (free) lounge chairs and umbrellas, site-wide wi-fi (paid), nearest village is 5 mins away by car, with a big Leclerc supermarket barely 10 mins away, 20 mins from the nearest beach, many things to do nearby (kayak / paddle boats, horse riding, children's park, traditional candy maker you can tour, etc.), and the geographical location pretty much guarantees great weather.

Also pet friendly, which for me was an essential requirement (just don't forget to bring your pet's passport).

    Disliked:

The bar and restaurant only open at 4 PM, which in my opinion is a missed opportunity for more business, as I would usually sit at bar's patio after lunch and watch people come over, look at the closed bar, and leave with a look of disappointment.

While the common areas (pool, bar, etc.) are well maintained with plenty of flowers and olive trees, most pitches are pretty dry and grass is mostly fried. I realize that the weather is particularly warm in this region of France, but the hedges separating pitches for example are well maintained with an irrigation system that comes on at regular intervals during the day. Maybe watering the pitches more regularly might help the grass survive a bit better?

Our pitch was on top of multiple ants nests! I needed to use the phone for an urgent call but I was told I wasn't allowed! There was no shop on site and the bar was only open at certain times!

From the manager...

Good Morning Miss Sweeney

We are very surprised about your feelings, when you checked out we asked you if everything was fine and you said yes.Concerning the ant nests, unfortunalety in any campsite in the nature or countryside you will find insects ,critters etc..You will have come in reception we would have find you something to get rid of it. Concerning the phone ,we do have two in the campsite, one for our business and one only to call the emergency. There is no law asking absolutely a phone to be available for customers and even if we would have phone box it wouldn't be free, there is the card to buy and I was kind enough to let you my own french mobile phone to say hi to your mum and it seem you don't realise no one would have done it.
