Camping L'Hippocampe is in the heart of Haute Provence along the Durance River, between Le Luberon, Le Verdon and le Mercantour.
We have a relaxed, family atmosphere in Volonne. Situated at an altitude of 430m, close to Volonne and Sisteron (a small Provencal village), the estate spreads over 11 hectares (approximately 27 acres) in a wooded and floral park, along a lake whose banks are populated by birds and with an unobstructed view over the surrounding Provencal hills.
Sunbathe by our heated pools or have fun on our five water slides, have a snooze in the shade of the olive trees and make the most of your holiday. Here at L'Hippocampe we offer you all the services and facilities you need on the site.
Our camping pitches for caravans, motorhomes and tents are spacious, flat and grassy.
In July and August our entertainment team invite you to join a variety of daytime activities including a mini club for the little ones and activities and sporting competitions for those who are older. High-quality shows will provide your evening entertainment in our large marquee and/or in our soundproofed disco.
There is always something happening here: every day, every evening, for adults and for children - entertainment, shows and relaxation are always to be found!

Many sites set a maximum occupancy of 6/8 people per pitch, so try breaking your booking down into smaller groups to generate more results. For example, if you’re a group of 10, enter 5 people in your initial search and then book 2 pitches.
However, where the pitch or accommodation occupancy allows it, you can make a booking for up to 30 adults and 30 children in one booking.
To book multiple pitches or accommodation, use the 'Special requests' box on the booking page to ask to be sited together. Complete the booking form for the first booking (you can add a password and save your card so that we remember your details). Then click "Make another booking like this" at the top of the confirmation page to make the next booking.
Large groups: check the listing page for any group restrictions set out in the terms and section titled ‘Please note’.
Large tents/caravans: check the restrictions on unit dimensions to ensure your unit is suitable for the space you will be provided with.

The Haute Provence Alps are ideal for mountain biking, with 350km of marked trails, classified by level of difficulty.
Our camping and caravanning site at L’Hippocampe is situated close to the Gorges du Verdon, with its unforgettable canyon landscapes dug out by the Verdon River over thousands of years.
For thrill seekers, our office has information on sports like rafting, canyoning, canoeing, paragliding, climbing, zip wires, gliding, parachuting: many of which can be accompanied by professional guides.
Discover the heritage of the region: the village of Volonne has small streets imprinted with a rich historical past, the old Saint-Martin Church and the Bastide chateau dating from the seventeenth century.
Visit the villages and towns in the surrounding area, like Sisteron with its rich heritage, museums, Citadelle, old town and the ramparts.
Food lovers: enjoy sampling local produce like the Haute Provence olive oil, the Miel de Lavande (honey) and the famous Sisteron lamb, highly esteemed by food experts all over the world. You can also sample wild lavender, thyme and rosemary growing on the surrounding hills.
At the lake, you can fish (permit required), take a canoe trip or a pedalo ride (charges apply), or just simply have a lie down in the sun. (Please note that swimming is forbidden in the lake.)
