Domaine du Chateau de Drancourt: Heated pool and paddling pool

General

  • Family-focused site with friendly summer entertainment team
  • Next door to a pony riding centre, with tree climbing park nearby
  • Heated outdoor pool, kids' cinema, bar and games room

One may do as little or as much as one fancies at Domaine du Chateau de Drancourt. Facilities and surrounds for stays of all sorts are at your disposal, with nature reserves, cracking coastal areas, boat trips and historic sites all a short drive or bike ride away, and lots of family-friendly stuff to do on site too.

Plunge into the heated outdoor pool (or lounge around beside it), splash around in it with your offspring or get stuck into sports tournaments and various other organised activities throughout the day. There’s a good-sized sandy playground with swings, a climbing frame and a slide too, all set scenically among green space and trees.

Rather fably, the Bar Cinéma hosts kids' activities and entertainment day and night in high season, including games and tournaments by day, and kids' cinema and other entertainment by night – all the better for the grownups to lurk around a secluded sunbathing spot on site, or have an evening hour or two in the Bar du Château.

Domaine du Chateau de Drancourt also has a café open during the day, a takeaway service in the evening, and a well-stocked grocery shop. Local supermarkets and a fast food joint are within easy reach too if you fancy a jaunt off site.

The site is very clean. Has a great swimming pool area. The restaurant that is open Thursday-Sunday is amazing. It was some of the best food we had on our trip, and was priced reasonable. Has a lovely little bar that offered free crepes. The staff were very friendly.

    Disliked:

The only slight negative is our pitch was not one of the best on the site, close to a barn that the grass needed reseeding.

Local attractions

Active offspring will be highly entertained among the treetop climbing courses La Parc Salomon, three kilometres from base, and numerous boat trips can be had locally for tours of the Picardy’s canals and rivers. Another popular family pursuit off site is a ride around the many cycle paths that network the area around the park – hire bikes on site if you haven't brought your own.

Medieval sites, churches and World War II landmarks and memorials are around to visit as well, such as the Bay of the Somme and the medieval town of Saint Valery sur Somme, two kilometres away. The Bay is also a haven for nature spotters and birdwatchers; when you’re done spying species, take in the sights in fine style with a trip along the vintage miniature railway running up and down the bay.

For more animal-themed sightseeing, half an hour’s drive away is the natural parkland of Le Parc du Marquenterre, a habitat for lots of other birds and furry beasties.
