General

  • Bordering the Canche Bay Nature Park with Canche estuary views
  • Five minutes' drive from Étaples, 15 from Le Touquet, 40 from Calais
  • Shop, bar, restaurant, takeaway, games room and big playground

Make this a stopover on your way to or from Angleterre... or pitch up here as a base for pootling around Pas-de-Calais, the Opal Coast, the Canche river estuary, swish Le Touquet Paris-Plage, theme park and water days at Parc Bagatelle and Aqualud... and all under an hour's drive from the Eurotunnel and Calais.

Bordering a nature reserve with views of the Canche river estuary, Camping La Pinède is in green surroundings about five minutes' drive from the northern France commune of Étaples, an old fishing port on the Canche river that's also home to a military cemetery with thousands of Allied graves from the two world wars.

It's under 10 minutes' drive from here to the beach at Sainte Cécile and about 15 from Le Touquet, in an area of dunes and sands, forest and countryside, making up plentiful trails for hiking, cycling and horse riding. Sailing, yachting, canoeing and a leisure centre are available within a kilometre of the site, fishing within three and horse riding within four. The Canche Bay Nature Park is an easy 100 metres away.

La Pinède is a family-friendly site, with a safe play area and plenty of room to wander about on walks or laze about on a sunbathing session. There's a shop, bar, restaurant and takeaway to sort your foodie and drinkie needs; a big and well-equipped play area to occupy the kids, and a games room for indoor days. A large supermarket is 600 metres from the site, accessible via a peaceful cycling path.

If you are indeed arriving here on your way to and/or from Grande-Bretagne and are a native of that land, you should also make room on site for a round or two of pétanque, that most French game that's practically obligatory in these parts.

Quiet, good sized pitches and lots of grass and trees. Very close to the Eurotunnel, less than 40 minutes. Supermarket is a short walk away, and we can recommend the local Mexican restaurant in the town, also within walking distance.

    Disliked:

The toilet/wash block nearest to our pitch was partly locked up and needed refurbishment. We only discovered at the end of our stay that the other block was in a much better state.
Please note that the restaurant/ bar is only open in July and August.

Location is ideal for early train from coquelles next morn. Close to etaples war cemetery.

    Disliked:

Cleanliness and services very dated. Card machine wouldn't work when tried to pay for pitch. Had to pay cash but no card receipt given to show that payment wasn't taken 😡 Showers need a really good clean and the toilets were really stinky. The bar/restaurant wasn't open. Couldn't even buy the kids an ice cream! Also eaten alive by mosquitoes. Not the best place to spend our last evening in France.

    The location was good.

    Disliked:

The pitch was very moody and when it rained the inside of our awning turned into a swamp.

From the manager...

Hi,

Thanks for the comment, We are sorry that your stay went wrong.

Actually, we have experienced an exceptionnal bad weather during the week you stayed in our camping.
The important rain and storm made the pitch very moody and the floor had difficulties to evacuate the excess water due to the weather.

We hope you spent a good moment in our camping after all.

See you soon,

Manon

An average campsite which seems to attract some very antisocial guests 14/08/2017

We did appreciate the quick and easy booking of this night stay. A friendly welcome from reception staff.

Only a quick drive to Calais

    Disliked:

The wash block we tried was worn, cold, and not at all welcoming. After our second tour of France and staying in over 15 campsites in two years, these facilities were below average, and certainly not comfortable. Need updating.
Security, or lack of it, was the other major factor. Drunk campers returning to tents at 2am and proceeding to play loud music, no visible security guard. A dog owner with a large bull terrier/pitbull sitting in full view of reception with beer can in hand was also extremely worrying. Most French campsites do not allow Cat 1 or 2 dogs, though this dog itself wasn't being aggressive, these types of dogs can be quite unnerving to others.

From the manager...

Mister grant,

We are sorry your stay went wrong. Unfortunetly, the weekend of 15th august is the biggest in France due to the public holiday.
But it happens that unfortunate problem appear, we try our best to solve them and give you the best we can in our camping. We take note of this advise and will improve our sevices.

We hope your next experience in camping la pinède will be better.

Best regards,

Manon

Local attractions

Camping La Pinède's setting a few kilometres from Étaples-sur-Mer is close to hikes and bikes in protected coastal areas, family days out at theme and water parks, and long lengths of spectacular beaches for sunbathing and watersports. If you're a wildlife watcher, it's a mere minute's stroll from here to the Canche Bay Nature Park and its surrounds, to spy warblers and other feathered species, as well as mammals such as foxes and wild boar, and slippery sorts including toads and newts.

A drive of 15 minutes or so westwards towards the coast will land you at the famed and posh resort of
Le Touquet or Paris by the sea. The beach here is lush for basking on and swimming from, and the cycling here is mighty as Le Touquet has hosted four Tour de France races. The town's Centre Equestre has several horse riding centres if you'd like to arrange a beach-based canter.

Delve into the local maritime and fishing trade at Étaples, where there's a lengthy Rope Walk and a seafaring museum telling the nautical tale of the town.
