  • Lakeside site a few kilometres from Foix, the Ariège's main town
  • Fishing, boating, rafting and treetop adventure park
  • Pool and paddling pool with sunloungers alongside
Ponder your mood of the morning when you awake at Camping du Lac near Foix in the Ariège department of south-west France. Feeling adventurous? Then get out into the open for long adrenaline-packed hours around this lakeside site (do, however, remember to get dressed first…). An early adventurous option should be kayaking or rafting on the lake; if watery antics aren't your thing, make your way up high to the site's treetop adventure course. Canyoning and hiking are around in the area too, as is (for the truly intrepid), hang gliding above the spectacular landscapes of the Pyrenées Ariégoises Regional Nature Park. Non, non and un big fat non? Peeps of a more placid persuasion have plenty of pursuits here too: the lake is a splendid spot for fishing and paddling, and the site has its own nicely-sized pool with sunbeds alongside. Camping du Lac is a green and peaceful site, about five kilometres from the train station at Foix. The town market on Friday mornings is your destination for local produce.

Electric grass touring pitch (comfort)

Liked: the site, very clean, good facilities.

Disliked: the wait for the reception to open (14.00pm) then let everyone in at once and did not respect those who had been waiting since 12.05 pm. fresh water taps do not have a universal connection so filling had to be done with a watering can.

From the manager: hello thak you for your reply i don't understand the problem with the reception the reception is closed beetween 12 and 2 pm but there is always someone to welcome you on the reception door there is the phone number of the guardian and there is also a ring if you want. when we come back at the reception at 2 pm we don't know who arrived first ,we trust in the good behaviour of the customers and unfortunately we are not responsible for this regards

Electric grass touring pitch (comfort)

Liked: Nothing

Disliked: All toilets and shower blocks were closed apart from 2 toilets and showers for the whole site which was pretty busy! Other guests were peeing in bushes, drinking at the wash stations and leaving bottles around and no on site representative. Checked in and just got told to park anywhere, no information at all or even a site map. Site was busy and right next to a very busy road, with a lot of road noise all night with sirens etc.

Local attractions

Hang gliding, canoeing, kayaking, rafting, canyoning, hiking, horse riding and exploring the local lakes, mountains and forests… all are around the region for adventurous sorts. Many peaceful days are within easy reach too, like investigating the deep history of the Ariège region at the Parc de la Prehistoire de Tarascon-sur-Ariege prehistory museum 15 minutes' drive south: this splendid centre should entertain even certified non-history types with its huge range of sights and activities including workshops, games, displays and events all based around the ancestral people who once lived in the famed Cave of Niaux. (Visit the cave too, for a torchlight trip underground among extensive galleries of prehistoric wall paintings, along the cavern's 18-kilometre length.) The town of Foix a few kilometres away is home to a 12th-century castle and a medieval Old Town as well as the serene botanical garden of Les Épines de Lespinet, with Mediterranean vegetation, banana plants and many spiky cacti.
