General

  • Shaded woodland site within walking distance of the beach
  • Heated pool with slides and spectacular views
  • Themed evenings, whirlpool, waterslide and summer kids' activities

Kids (and parents) are sorted at Camping La Presqu'ile in the Catalan region a short drive from Port Barcarès, as campers aged six to 11 are looked after every morning and afternoon in the kids' club. La hurrah!

Are you possessed of an older offspring or do you rather fancy some on-site holiday activity too? Basketball, water polo and – naturellement – pétanque are among the many sporting activities offered here for adults and teens in July and August.

Evenings are sorted too with events including dance, themed nights, karaoke, games, magic nights and a lot more – and watery times with a 200m² heated outdoor pool with paddling pool, waterslide and whirlpool to relax in. (And spectacular views too: the waterpark has vistas over the Pyrénées, the lake and Mont Canigou.)

Facilities at Camping La Presqu'ile include a grocery shop, washing machines, a snack bar and the option to buy bread, cakes and newspapers (services may be limited during low season).

The site added a playground in 2017.

Please note

The outdoor swimming pool is open between 01/07 and 31/08 (subject to weather conditions).

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

Some okay aspects but not very impressive overall. 24/09/2016

The attraction of coming to the area for me was to get in the 'still warm' Med but the cold wind coming off the Pyrenees put paid to that until the very last day. Nonetheless, I found one or two excellent seafood restaurants and it does appear to be true that the catch is landed fresh every day. If you love the Dordogne, like I do, you're not going to be impressed with the sandy, scrubby countryside round here. Indeed, a lot of it is given over to vineyards. Vignoble and degustation if you're into that.
Facilities: The toilet and shower block is clean/functional. The design of the shower is not helpful because it sends water out of the area you stand in into the bit where you've got your sandals and change of clothes. The jetstream just needs to be angled down a little sharper (the French, I used to think, were good at practical design).

    Disliked:

Signage/reception: came off at the correct junction (11) thanks to the clear sign pointing left for Presqu'ile. But let down by not seeing the all important second sign to Presqu'ile which shows that you don't turn left, you keep going in the direction of the road you just came off. To see it would have meant doing a tour round the roundabout to double check. All the less likely too when the first exit clearly displayed a sign 'Camping-Cars'. I thought – yes – but, several kilometres later, turned out to be a kind of derelict wasteland upon which people parked great big mobile homes only.
After a trip to the Office of Tourisme and still in confusion about where in Le Barcares I actually was, I asked an old man on his balcony, who came downstairs rather painfully, and it took him about 5 mins to work out I was still in the wrong place.
By the time I got to the campsite, it had closed for lunch and I read and waited until about 2:00. I saw no-one come or go, no doors opening or any change that might indicate someone was in the office, but somehow, when I looked, there was someone now there behind the desk.
I decided to ask about upgrading to a chalet – the wind was ferocious on arrival and lasted four full days – at low season rates would have been affordable. But guess what? All taken. Would there be one coming free? Yes, maybe but we cannot give you a refund on your six days tent pitch because you booked it on-line via another agent. So you would want me to pay the whole cost of the tent and the chalet rate? Yes, it's because you booked...
Okay, denying people choice and freedom to make reasonable changes sounds like financial fascism to me. Not very civilised.
A 20euros for a deposit on the barrier entry/exit swipe system. In my RHD, I was either going to have to stretch painfully across the passenger seat or get out of the car, swipe and walk back. I decided on the latter and paid for it because the gate came back down closed before I'd even got into my seat. No help or advice in advance so I must have been the first ever RHD who stayed at the site! I came up with a system that worked for me thenceforward.
Campsite facilities: it's much closer to the main road than you'd have thought so there is traffic noise, but if the wind's blowing strong you don't hear it much. When it's not (the last night) traffic noise is considerable and the two-wheeled merchants seem to flourish at just the hour you're trying to get to sleep either rattling along on unbelievably noisy mopeds or, their better endowed brethren, banshee wailing along the main road on engines far too powerful for their own good.

Camp site and security was very good. The staff were very helpful. The pool was great. Lots happening each day and evening if you're after "kids' club" type activities.

    Disliked:

A little further from the town and beach than we would have preferred - need the car to get supplies or to go to the beach. The on-site Epicerie is very basic.

Local attractions

The family seaside resort of Port Barcarès is within walking distance of Camping La Presqu'ile and has varied events in all seasons, like the summer fishing festival as well as music concerts, folk music gigs and quite a whole heap more.

Elsewhere, use the park as a base to discover Catalan country: to the north, Leucate Lake, the fortress of Salse, the Fitou and Rivesaltes vineyards; and to the south, the Côte Vermeille, the cultural heritage (and anchovies) of Collioure, the vineyard-covered coasts of Banyuls, and the maritime reserve Port Vendres with its old fishing port and the wild coves to the south.

Very close to home, the 10-kilometre Greenway cycling trail and the 15-kilometre walking trail to Rivesaltes both pass the campsite gates, and you won't be far from local watersports like waterskiing, windsurfing, canoeing, sea kayaking and kitesurfing.

If you want to get to Spain for a day trip, access via the Perthus pass is 50 kilometres away.
