  • Family-run site on a vineyard in the south of the Cévennes
  • An hour's drive from Montpellier and the Mediterranean coast
  • Wine tasting, purchases and tours available on site
If you’re partial to a tipple or two on hols, this is a place you’ll want to raise a glass to. Depending on your preference, that could be a glass of red, white, rosé or sparkling – all are produced on site at Domaine d’Anglas from the surrounding vines. Five minutes’ drive from the little village of Saint-Bauzille-de-Putois, Camping du Domaine d’Anglas is a rural retreat in the south of the Cévennes, with the Hérault river flowing just past its boundaries. The estate's been owned by the same family since the late 19th century, and now does tours and wine tastings for guests and visitors. A restaurant is on site for plentiful eats and breakfasts. Folk who prefer to be more self-reliant on the food front can cook over coals at the shared barbecue area, having picked up all the necessaries either at the site’s shop or at the butcher, baker and grocer down in the village. There’s plenty for les enfants to get up to around the site as well, including a football pitch, volleyball court, table tennis and a playground as well as splashing about in the river. Kids' activities run in summer for kids to keep them amused for a bit while you relax… perchance with a yoga class or a massage? Or with a glass of wine in hand of course (you are on hols, after all – cheers to that).

Local attractions

Walkers can start with the six-kilometre route that runs through the estate’s own vineyard, then head out into the Cévennes National Park for longer routes taking in mountains and lakes. Hire bikes on site to roam around the local cycle routes, including one along a disused railway line, or drive up to Cazilhac (10 minutes) for horse riding. Down in Saint-Bauzille-de-Putois there’s a canoe centre where you can hire kit or join guided trips on the Hérault river (have a chat with reception staff at Domaine d’Anglas to find out about any current discounts for guests). This is a great area for climbing, too – you can either go freestyle or follow a guide along a via ferrata route. Or you could really up the adrenaline levels and chuck yourself off a mountainside from the paragliding centre 20 minutes’ drive away. Back down on earth, carry on below the surface to admire the rock formations at the Demoiselles caves, just outside Saint-Bauzille-de-Putois, or trot over to the cave at Clamouse, just over half an hour away.
