  • Peaceful and relaxed family site close to legendary Brocéliande forest
  • 5km from Lac Au Dac; four bars serving food within five minutes' walk
  • Indoor pool, carp fishing and 53-kilometre bike path within 50 metres
If you're after a family site in a peaceful Breton place, close to a sandy beach and with utterly amiable owners... well then, you'll find this site simply wizard. Calm and contentment are the aim at Camping Merlin L'Enchanteur, which was set up for chilled out family holidays in a serene space without a clubhouse, bar or disco. The owners do their best to endure silence after 10pm to ensure everyone gets a good night's shut-eye: you do have beaches, a fishing lake, cycling paths and a legendary forest to check out locally, after all... The site hires out bikes so guests can pedal from the site to the beach at spectacular Lac Au Duc, the biggest of Brittany's inland lakes (it was created by monks in the 12th century and is quite the sight). You could also ride along part – or all – of the 53-kilometre railway accessible a mere 50 metres away, or take your wheels to the woodland of Brocéliande, aka the forest of King Arthur. A heated indoor pool opens on site in summer for your idling hours; you can also play tennis or ping pong, or settle down around the grounds with an ice cream or cold drink. A small and scenic lake adjoins the site if you're up for some carp angling or waterside wanders (advice: say oui to both). Source your barbecue supplies at nearest town Loyat, within a few minutes' stroll, or at the small shop just at the entrance of the site. Even more handily, four bars serving food are within five minutes' walk of Merlin L'Enchanteur – a rather wizard factor of this place as well.

Local attractions

You don't have to wander far for magical outdoor days around here around Breton coast, forest and waterways. It's a minute's walk from the site to access the cycle track of the old railway line between Mauron and Questembert for a ride among spectacularly scenic countryside, flat enough for strolls or inline skating too. A lakeside beach, pike and perch fishing and a sailing club are at Lac Au Duc five and a half kilometres away, one of the most famed inland lakes in France for landing whoppers, with specimens of up to 21kg. Elsewhere, go quietly to spot otters and deer, take the 15-kilometre bike path around the lake's shores, or stroll the Hydrangea Walk, three kilometres of path lined by over 5,000 plants. Mini helicopter and hang gliding trips are bookable a couple of kilometres away. If you want to make like Merlin and go adventuring in the woodland, the ancient and mythical forest of Brocéliande is seven kilometres away.
