General

  • Peaceful and well-maintained site in the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michael
  • A few kilometres from a sandy beach
  • Waterslides, outdoor pool, fishing pond, sundeck and tennis court

For starters, just look at that sundeck. And you'll probably want to hear about the waterpark, on-site fishing and rather ripping locale of this Lower Normandy and Bay of Mont-Saint-Michael site, close to Mont Saint-Michel and its famed monastery, the sandy beaches of Manche, the coastal resort and gardens of Granville, boat trips to the lovely little islands of Chausey… how well placed you'll be for holidays in northern France from this green and serene space.

Set on five hectares of space a few kilometres from Saint-Pair-sur-Mer, Château de Lez-Eaux welcomes families and groups to a friendly, well-appointed and relaxing site acclaimed as 'fabulous', 'great', 'excellent' and 'beautiful' among many other plaudits of praise from chuffed former guests – have a squint at the site pics to see of what they speak.

It's family run, with stacks to do for all ages among its amiable atmosphere: if your littlies don't fancy the summer kids' club (unlikely), that fab 1,300m² waterpark will keep them royally entertained, at the heated outdoor pool, swish indoor pool, roomy paddling pool or, for bigger tiddlers, the waterslides to whizz down as many times as is small humanly possible. For a gentler pace of afternoon (perhaps when parents are slightly frazzled after a morning at the waterpark), kids can learn to cast off at the handsomely set fishing pond, or expend any extra energy at the tennis and pétanque courts, play area and games room.

Much time should of course be spent lounging around that pretty sundeck too, and/or perhaps venturing around the grounds by foot or pedal for gentle and secluded hours. Tipples and vittles then, perhaps… a bar and restaurant are on site to keep you all fuelled up; there's takeaway with different daily specials; you can bag fresh bread and pastries along with other groceries at the site shop, and Tuesday evenings in high season sees a visiting market arrive to sell heaps of fresh local produce.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

The outdoor swimming pool is open between 15/05 and 16/09 (subject to weather conditions).

The indoor swimming pool is open between 29/03 and 16/09.

We liked everything. we were a family group aged 5-74 years of age. We had 3 adjoining large pitches overlooking fields. There was so much to do for all ages. The indoor pool was a particular hit with everyone. Shop well stocked and a fair price. Local cider in bar was second to none. Takeaway shop served good food, with a special every day. We only used it once, but it seemed popular. All in all a great holiday, we would certainly recommend, and plan to return.

Where to begin...The pitch was clean, spacious, and - intentionally, I think - near other families with similarly aged children. The outdoor pool and indoor pool were both clean and warm; the toilet blocks were spotless; the Epicerie had a good supply of basic necessities; all staff were really helpful and very friendly; whilst we only used the take-away once, the quality was good and far beyond the standard range of dishes. Outside the campsite there's a large and very reasonably priced supermarket about five minutes away, which helped hugely, though on Tuesdays, a few market stalls are set up in the campsite and you can buy fresh fruit and veg, which may mean you don't need to visit the supermarket, depending on your timing.

For me and my wife, the highlight was probably the peaceful surroundings which married well with the variety of things to do. For our daughter, it was definitely the Kids' Club, which - once she'd found it - she wanted to do every day. We picked up a booklet showing other sites in the chain and whilst our daughter was excited by these at first, by the end of the stay she was saying she simply wanted to return to Lez Eaux next year. And, frankly, we'd be happy to do so. In fact, we extended our stay by two days and the staff were really helpful in allowing us to do this.

We chose Lez Eaux as this was our first camping trip abroad with our young daughter...therefore we needed something that would let us get back home quickly if we had to, and that had plenty for her to do. It ticked every box, and we heard couples with a few more years of experience than us lamenting that, having used Lez Eaux as a stopover, they were now going on to places that were actually far less impressive!

    Disliked:

Genuinely, there was nothing we disliked at all - the whole experience was great.

Pretty much everything. A lovely site well run with great staff. Of the four sites we stayed on during our month tour of France this site was by far and above the best. The whole package is well thought out and we were made to feel part of a family not simply paying guests.

We would definitely stay here again.

Great site very well maintained, indoor pool is excellent has a big pool on the bottom part then on the upper part is a childrens pool were i mainly stayed with my youngest. It was very spacious and clean. The slides were really good and enjoyed by all 3 of my children. Outdoor pool was clean as well though we didn't spend too much time at this one as the kids were mostly at the indoor pool. The staff were great especially Emmanulle (not too sure of the spelling) she helped me order a birthday cake for my husband and also recommended places to go outside camp. The playground was good also had a football pitch and bouncy castles were just outside the indoor pool. The shop was well stocked and not overly expensive. The showers and toilets were kept to a very high standard.

We loved this site. Pitches were well maintained. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Facilities were very clean. The indoor swimming pool had a lovely area for small children which suited us. We would definitely recommend this site and would definitely stay again.

    Disliked:

We couldn't say that we disliked anything about our stay. The on slightly negative comment we'd have is that the onsite takeaway closes at 9pm which is a wee bit early for parents would like a pizza and a glass of wine after putting the chipmunks to bed.

Beautiful site with lots of activities and well maintained facilities. The kids loved the water slides. It was nice to have a bar and shop on site and the market, which arrived on Tuesday evening, with lots of local produce, was great. Most of the pitches were fairly flat and easy to access.

    Disliked:

Nothing, although it was slightly annoying that the shop didn't stock fresh bread unless you ordered it the day before (low season).

Local attractions

Château de Lez-Eaux's setting should sort you out for whichever flavour of Normandy holiday you're after; if you seek yet more northern France adventures, you're about an hour and 15 minutes' drive from Saint-Malo and the Brittany coast too. The closest sandy beach is about four kilometres away, at the park's local town of Saint-Pair-sur-Mer.

Begin your Normandy wanderings with some time at the surrounding Mont Saint-Michel Bay or Baie du mont Saint-Michel, between Brittany and the Normandy peninsula of Cotentin, and a setting so splendid it's a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. Birdwatching and seal spotting are popular picks around these waters, as is a trip to the world-famed Mont Saint-Michel island and its monastery.

Mont Saint-Michel is reachable at low tide from Granville, well worth a day or two in itself for its wide golden sandy beach, its art deco casino and, for fashionistas, the gardens and the 19th century Villa les Rhumbs where Christian Dior and his family spent their summers. The house is now a museum showcasing Dior's stylish creations; if you're a fashion fan or a Dior aficionado, you'll def want to see both while you're here.
