General

  • Quiet site on a former wine-growing farm
  • 35 minutes from Bordeaux
  • Pool, sauna, restaurant and bar

Campsite Le Pressoir is 15 minutes from the town of Saint-Émilion, near the Dordogne and 35 minutes from Bordeaux... and did you know that the Romans were cleverly planting vineyards in this area in the second century? Oui, this is wine region: very much so, as the site is set on a former wine-growing farm.

Le Pressoir is a quiet and relaxing site, set on said farm and under the shade of long-established oak and pine trees. It has a pool and a sauna (we did say the site was relaxing), and a traditional restaurant and bar, Auberge du Pressoir, which serves up local specialties on its varied menu along with tapas and wine specials and takeaway in summer.

Aqua gym, sports tournaments, nightly entertainment and a kids' club are organised in high season.

Please note

The outdoor swimming pool is open between 15/04 and 15/10 (subject to weather conditions).

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

Group bookings of 50 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

We were really impressed with this family friendly site. Arrived initially with our own tent but we were offered option of a site tent for the same price, including furniture and a fridge and gas cooker.

Can recommend the pizzas and the site organised activities for kids.

The pool can get busy in the afternoon.

The site is right in the middle of the vineyard. Most tent site were sheltered from the sun but we suggest you arrive as early as possible to choose the best pitch.

5 mins in car to local bakery, 10 mins to super M and Aldi. Remember shops close as 7.30pm plus half day Sunday.
    We will be returning.

    Disliked:

Music was abit late and load some nights , nothing serious.

Close to facilities. Interesting areas nearby to visit.

    Disliked:

Smoking allowed in bathrooms. No warning camp was locked down after 10pm and no access code given.

From the manager...

Dear Alastair,
We thank you for your review, it always helps us.
Smoking is not allowed in the bathroom, if someone did, you could have warned us at the reception.
Beside the gates there is a sign telling the hours when the gates are closed. Beside the bathroom too.

    Nice location in vineyards

    Disliked:

Toilet/shower facilities a bit tired but clean
    Noisy neighbours
Arriving late we were unable to order bread and we weren't allowed to buy any from the restaurant even though there was plenty !

From the manager...

Dear sir, dear madam,

We thank you for your review.
We are afraid that the lack of bread for campsite customers is not due to the late arival but to the low season, in fact you can order bread only in July and August. The bread is ordered only for the restaurant customers the other months.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Good showers, pool, friendly staff . Great location for visiting the area sainte-Émilion and Bordeaux just a short drive away. Good family campsite.

    Disliked:

You can hire bikes that are great value but there are no cycle trails. We cycled to Lussac which was lovely but if you have children that is about it. Gym was basic, smelt a bit musty but ok. Avoid Wednesday nights very loud kareoke until midnight in high season. WiFi connection was pretty bad.

Local attractions

Golfers rejoice: a ten-minute drive from Camping Le Pressoir is a top-notch golf course designed by Tom Doak, named as one of the top courses in France. Fishing, cycling and canoeing are also available locally.

Saint-Émilion is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and its history goes back to prehistoric times. It's one of the top areas for red wine areas in Bordeaux, as recognised by the toga types all those years ago: sample Merlot and Cabernet Franc here along with a bit of Cab Sav.

A large chunk of Bordeaux is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, mainly because of its eighteenth century heyday. Sights to see include its 362 monuments historiques (only Paris has more), the biggest square in Europe at the Esplanade des Quinconces, the eighteenth century Grand Théâtre and Saint-André Cathedral and the many churches.
