General

  • A campsite set in a woodland area
  • A region of blue oceans, fine sandy beaches and prestigious wines
  • Ideal for families with activities and entertainment for all in summer

Welcome to Camping des Familles, in Grayan-et-l'Hôpital in the Gironde region. Located in the heart of a striking variety of landscapes which surround the largest estuary in Europe, the campsite welcomes guests for long holidays or short breaks in a calm and green environment which is just five kilometres from the beach.

The campsite is spread across two hectares of woodland and has plenty of services, facilities and activities for its guests. The 'Miam-mian Glou-glou' snack bar (that's 'Yum-yum Glug-glug') is open mid-June to the end of August, serving ice-creams, pizzas and refreshments to eat in or take away, as well as offering fresh bread and pastries which you can order and collect in the morning for your breakfast.

There are two toilet blocks on site with baby-bath facilities, and the laundry room next to reception is open all day for guests to use, there is also a shop selling beach essentials if you left anything behind, or just need to top up on the suncream. The campsite has a shared barbecue area with a dozen barbecues for guests to use, and there's a pétanque court nearby if you need some entertainment whilst your burgers are sizzling to perfection. There is a children's playground and also a heated outdoor pool with slides, paddling pool and sun loungers to make sure the whole family is kept busy (or relaxed, depending on your pool-side mood).

The summer season sees the on-site entertainment program get into full flow with drawing contests every Thursday, fresh oysters for sale on Tuesday evenings and themed evening meals such as paella, or mussels and chips every Wednesday. Wednesday is also the evening to try your hand at pétanque in the weekly tournament which takes place during summer, or you can test your archery skills with an introduction to the sport on Friday evenings (a small fee applies). Thursday is the big night for really letting your hair down with a disco evening on site, hosted by resident DJ David.

Camping des Familles also has bikes to hire on site for a weekly or daily rate for when you fancy venturing out on two wheels.

The team hopes you will enjoy your holiday.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The outdoor swimming pool is open between 28/04 and 17/09 (subject to weather conditions).

Upon arrival. We were told we were not booked in. ! Which we were. And told we could stay 1 night then they would have to see. After me looking on there emails and finding it straight away. The woman was so rude to me. The pitches were OK. Grass very long. So not ideal The swimming pool was closed and full of frogs and so dirty. The frogs made a racket all night so was near on impossible to sleep. The whole place had a very dirty feel about it. The toilet block which was new was poor boy cleaned once whilst there. And no toilet roll. Showers were poor low power. Bar was so dirty and grubby. Wifi which states on the site is free. But only by reception which is no good when the sets no lights round there at night . The whole campsite lacked lights. Was so dark on a night. Generally a disappointing stay.

From the manager...

Bonjour,

Local attractions

Uncover a region of blue oceans, fine sandy beaches and prestigious local winemakers creating some of the finest regional products. The area is perfect for active pastimes including horse riding, bike riding and watersports.

The Gironde is one of the top cycling destinations in France allowing guests to uncover the riches of the area at their own pace. The area has 500 kilometres of cycle paths with 435 kilometres of trails and bike lanes in urban areas. There are also 2,000 kilometres of marked hiking trails which are, for the most part, also suitable for mountain bikes.

Gurp beach, just five kilometres from the campsite, is a natural beach which contrasts pleasantly with the nearby beaches located to the north, which are closer to the bustle of the traders of Soulac-sur-Mer. Wild and unspoiled, Gurp beach is accessible via a large and beautiful bike path, bordered by large golden dunes of fine sand.

Amelie beach is located in the town of Soulac-sur-Mar, 10 kilometres from the campsite, and is great for families. The man-made dam protects nearby houses and provides a calm, water pool to keep the children happy. Shops and restaurants can be found nearby.

Beach Central Soulac-sur-Mer is 15 kilometres from the campsite and is very popular with holidaymakers due to its wide size and the fact that it runs parallel to the large pedestrian shopping street downtown. The beach is of an excellent standard and visitors are struck immediately by its vastness as it stretches out to join the Central North Beach and South Beach.

The beaches that run from Vendays to Montalivet are 10 kilometres from the campsite. This area boasts three beaches which extend across 12 kilometres, with the central beach forming an extension of the shopping street. The area is a great place for sunbathing and swimming and there is a surf school for the more adventurous. There is a large market at nearby Montalivet held every day.
