Excellent family orientated site in a stunning location. 22/08/2017

The staff were phenomenal, and facilities were really amazing, lots and lots for the kids and grown ups to do and there is a great schedule for additional activities (if required) although the pool and adjoined bar seemed to be quite enough on its own . We went canoeing do the afternoon and it only cost for the 4 of us 30 euros all in for a 16km canoe down through some breathtaking scenery- really really great value. The tent pitch was flat, grassy and enough shade, with plenty of room for large tent and vehicle (and then some) in our spacious pitch. The showers, toilets and amenities were all very clean and well attended at all times. Good was good, shop is too. We really could not fault this site at all, and really enjoyed our entire stay and would highly recommend it to anyone with families young or older.

Lovely family run site with a warm vibe and welcoming staff,
Lovely shop on site with happy smiles every day,
Nice pool area ... the bar/restaurant/pool/table tennis/boules area is very well thought out... a great layout.
Felt very safe, great for young children.
Food good in restaurant and take-away.

    Just, lovely!

    Disliked:

Got a bit tired of the walk up the hill to our pitch, but to be honest, it wouldn't put me off from visiting again and getting the same pitch!
Not much around the site... 10 mins drive to Sarlat.

Fabulous campsite in a beautiful part of France. Spacious well kept pitches. Great entertainment programme if you choose, very inclusive and friendly atmosphere. We have stayed before and it is definitely one if our favourire campsites. Great discounts for local kayak companies when booked via campsite.

The location is fantastic for watersports, local lake beaches, and medieval villages.
    Prehistoric sites etc.

Wonderful site in the Dordogne 24/11/2016

We have returned for a fifth year as we have always had such a good time at Moulin Du Roch.

We have a caravan and choose to have a pitch at the bottom near the pool overlooking a field (sometimes with and sometimes without some splendid cattle). There is a stream that runs by and we occasionally here the plop of a frog jumping in!

The restaurant is simply fantastic and better than any campsite eatery I've ever been to. The menu might not change much in our three week stay but we go back several times.

The site is run by the most delightful family and their staff are simply excellent - most speaking passable English - often some English staff too. Our children love the always exuberant Pomme, the anamatrice and several other staff have gone out of their way to help us (Katy in particular when we had some trouble with a online theme park booking last summer).

I am always amazed that the loos never have queues and they are always spotless. Its a shame that the chemical toilet waste point is near them and it would be great if there was somewhere else to deposit our waste without having to lift it so high! (My fault for not emptying more often!)

The campsite is wonderfully quiet at night (even if we have been lively in the bar until midnight!)

There are so many wonderful things about this campsite that our children (7 and 9) love it and won't consider anywhere else. They have the Dance of the Summer on constant play in the car. This is a quiet site, perhaps not so much to to for teenagers but we look forward to August next year once again!

    Disliked:

Some reviewers on other sites comment about the road noise. Yes, it is by a road and yes, there is the occasional lorry. We have a pitch very close and it really isn't an issue.

Internet - this has always been a problem for the site. If people just checked the occasional email and light browsing then the connection shared across the site would be fine (The actual WiFi coverage is excellent) but once streaming video is involved it is very bad. The problem is that France Telecom refuse to install a fibre to the site, so they rely on a Satellite Internet Connection. I recommend that English campers change their phones to Three and use their free roaming offer. Indeed, I brought my own satellite internet connection so I could stream the Ashes last year! (Beware not all pitches can see the satellite!)

The campsite is stunning and the pitches are well spaced, separated by hedges. There is plenty of shade around the pitches, which is invaluable when the temperatures soar. The pool was perfect for the kids and we didn't struggle for a sun bed. The site is located perfectly with loads of day time activities close by... We particularly enjoyed the canoeing. Several supermarkets are easily accessed after a 10 minute drive.
The restaurant at the campsite was amazing ..... A treat for us as it cost about 100 euro for two adults and two little ones but it was truly was amazing!
There is a little snack bar open on and off during the afternoon and evening and a pool bar.

    Disliked:

We had a two week stay at the Moulin du Roch ... Our first week was great with a great atmosphere without being overly busy. The second week wasn't the same. As the french school holidays finished and all the french families left the site changed. The pool bar went from opening at 12 ish to opening at 4... not open at all on a Tuesday....the snack bar opened between 6 and 8 only and not open at all on a Tuesday....the bar opened between 4 and 10 only and not open at all on a Tuesday. I appreciate that the last week was low season but we didn't know this when we booked....
We were very disappointed that the facilties were so greatly reduced when there was still so many paying guests on holiday.

From the manager...

Thank you for taking the time to review the campsite - we appreciate all feedback. We are happy that you have enjoyed your first French holiday, and that you would like to return to Le Moulin du Roch.

With regard to the change in atmosphere on the campsite, it is true that the last week of August is quieter than the rest of the month, as school recommences on the first of September. This reflected in the fact that the prices drop considerably after 20th August, and is the same throughout France. However, despite you feeling that you are "...one of 5 families left on site" we can assure you that there are currently still over 150 clients on the campsite, so it is not quite as deserted as you describe! (Although there are considerably less people around that in the peak of high season when there can be 700 or more people on site).

Because of this reduction in the number of people towards the end of August, the campsite services are slightly reduced once high season finishes, however the bar still opens at 4pm every day except Tuesday, and ice creams are available 7 days a week in the campsite shop.

Now that you have joined the wonderful world of caravanning and camping we wish you many more happy holidays in the future!
