General

  • Peaceful, family-run Dordogne campsite
  • Set in 26 acres of the Parc Naturel Régional Périgord Limousin
  • Onsite bar and restaurant, outdoor pool and fishing lake

You'll feel right at home at Camping Maisonneuve, a peaceful, friendly and family-run Dordogne site in the Périgord Vert within the Périgord-Limousin Regional Nature Park.

The site spreads over 26 acres of green scenery, with plenty of space for all, a private fishing lake, and woodland and riverside walks. A village shop, bar, bakery and restaurant are all in the small village of St Jory de Chalais five minutes' walk away. A swimming lake with beach is within 15 kilometres' drive.

Amicable and helpful owners Lorna and Russ haven't stopped there with their tiptop facilities and amenities: Maisonneuve also has an outdoor pool, a play area, free wifi, and a fully licensed bar and restaurant. Barbecues and campfires are both allowed on site.

This pretty place is just the ticket for a roomy and peaceful getaway, or to use as a base for getting out into all on offer around the Dordogne. At just four kilometres from the N21, it's also a most handy stopover for travellers on their way to southern France, Spain and Portugal – but when you see what's on offer here, you'll likely want to stay at least another few days…

Please note

Your dog must be tattooed or microchipped.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

The best campsite we’ve stayed on, large pitches shaded by trees, very clean toilet, shower and washing up block. Showers free and good pressure. Large fridge freezer for communal use. Owners and staff are super friendly and helpful. Restaurant is excellent, eating outdoors, paella night is a must. We ate there twice and food was superb. Clean swimming pool.

Nice feel to the site. Good walk around the site through the woods. Nice pool area. Very friendly owners. The pitches are quite large and very shady. Lots of trees around which is nice except if you want to sit in the sun. Maybe we just picked the wrong pitch.

    Disliked:

No shelves in the shower to put your shampoo etc on, you have to put it on the floor which isn't very nice especially if you use a wash scrunchy. Also apart from one, the shower cubicles are tiny which is a shame because the building is quite large!
Also I don't like washing up next to people going to the toilet!! Not this nicest!! Would be better in a separate building or even just outside.

    Everything!!

Our first stay at Camping Maisonneuve and we hope it is not our last.
Lorna, Russ, their Kids and staff were all great, really wecoming and couldnot do enough. A very relaxed atmosphere and accommodating site

We used the bar most nights and ate in the resturaunt more than we usually would when on holiday. The bar prices are very reasonable and the homemade food excellent and good value. A very relaxed atmosphere and a film put on for the kids around 9 pm a nice touch.

Our kids loved the pool and it was great that it can be used at any time.

The toilet block was clean and to a good standard, good size pitch and being able to choose our own pitch a nice touch. most pitches have some shade from trees and low trimmed hedges to offer some privacy if required.

Plenty of places to visit within reasonable distance.

Upon arrival, we met Russ who advised us to walk around and find a pitch and set up - so different to normal sites where you have to pitch on allocated site. The pitches are very different in shape, size and shade but all very good size. The on site restaurant which Russ and Lorna manage was fabulous - the food and atmosphere was great and we loved joining in the weekly BBQ. My husband loves fishing and this was one of the reasons for choosing the site and although the lake looks small, the stock was very good and he certainly enjoyed his days sitting round the lake. A great holiday - thank you

Perhaps the water could be a little warmer, particularly for washing up.

We only booked for one night initially but had such a nice time ended up staying for three,The location was stunning set in wooded farmland the pitches very roomy. The washing facilities excellent and very clean. The English family that own and run the camp are fabulous nothing is too much trouble. We ate twice in the converted Barn and the food is first class and very reasonably priced, On our last night it was BBQ night with large helpings. Of Pork and local sausages with ice cream and brownies for dessert. Thankyou Russ and wife for a lovely stay if we are down this way in the future we will definitely book again.

Local attractions

The spectacular Dordogne, with its splendid landscapes and scenery, prehistoric and ancient sites, jaw-dropping châteaux and deep dark caves, is a rightly popular place in France for visitors from within the country and all over the world. And then – mais oui – there's the cuisine: make sure to make room for Dordogne duck and goose, truffles, cheese, Bergerac and Monbazillac wines…

For outdoorsy days/attempts to burn off laden heaps of Dordogne eats, a swimming lake (and beach) are 15 kilometres away at Grand Étang de Saint Saud; many kilometres of cycle trails are nearby, and canoes can be hired to explore the Dronne, Vézère and Dordogne rivers.

The Camping Maisonneuve owners also particularly recommend the splendid subterranean experience of Villars Cave, 14 kilometres from base, as well as the spectacular châteaux at Puyguilhem (15 kilometres) and Hautefort (30 kilometres).

Within day trip distance are the World War II memorial and museum at Oradour-sur-Glane; the cathedral and Roman remains of Périgueux, and the fab medieval centre of Limoges, all within 45 kilometres. Bergerac and Sarlat are both 75 kilometres away.
