  • Glamping pods in an alpine setting at Haiming in Austria’s Tyrol
  • A 10-minute drive to Silzer Via Ferrata; Ochsengarten 20 minutes
  • Restaurant and bike hire on site; water sports arranged at reception
Set alongside the River Inn in the pretty village of Haiming, half an hour’s drive west of Innsbruck, the cosy wooden pods at Innside can comfortably accommodate up to five people. Surrounded by spectacular views of the Upper Inntal Valley, they make a handy base for exploring this mountainous corner of the Tyrol in western Austria. Indeed the site is in pole position for water sports on the Inn – namely whitewater rafting, canyoning and kayaking – which can all be organised through reception on site. All that sound too energetic? Take a leisurely dip in the river's pristine waters instead. Back at base, there’s plenty to keep everyone entertained too. Borrow bikes (subject to availability) to get out into the mountain foothills, or have a bash at table tennis and mini football. A sauna takes care of any aches and pains caused by your sporting activities, and all guests have free access to tiptop modern showers and spotless toilets a short walk away from the pods. All in all, life is pretty relaxed on site. There’s no real need to get involved with cooking, as a continental breakfast is available every morning in the Gasthof Rafting Alm, a pretty wooden chalet that's also host to a bar and restaurant for later in the day. Insistent on cooking? Pick up bits and pieces at the local supermarket (10 minutes’ walk).

Local attractions

The scenic province of Tyrol is one of the best skiing areas in Austria, but is just as enchanting in summer. As well as all the water-related sports that can be organised on site, the mountains around Ochsengarten (20 minutes’ drive) hold many, many walking and mountain-biking trails, as well as chances to go rock climbing or have a go at the challenging climbing course at Silzer Via Ferrata (10 minutes). Introduce kids to new outdoor activities in the safe confines of Area 47 outdoor adventure park (10 minutes) with its swimming lake, huge slides and a wakeboard course. Anyone looking for less action and more relaxation should head for the lido at Schwimmbad Haiming (five minutes) for mountain views from the sun terrace, or take a picnic to lovely Lake Piburger (20 minutes) above the alpine village of Oetz (15 minutes). Among many natural landmarks, look out for the dramatic Stuibenfall (35 minutes), a giant waterfall cascading into the river Archbach, and Rosengartenschlucht (20 minutes), a slender gorge with a wooden walkway suspended above the rushing waters of the Schinderbach.
