General

  • Glamping on a working organic farm in the Welsh Marches
  • In an area of wildlife watching, pony trekking and mountain biking
  • Pods with electricity, heating and free wifi

Powys Pods is a rural retreat on a working organic hill farm in the Welsh marches, opened in July 2013 and set up to provide an alternative to traditional camping experience without losing the back-to-nature appeal popular with so many.

The site is in a popular spot for walkers, pony trekkers, mountain bikers, birdwatchers, astronomers and those who just want to enjoy the peace of the countryside. Evenings can be spent relaxing, cooking up a feast on the barbecue or roasting marshmallows around the bonfire pit, all among spectacular sunsets over the valley or bright stars in the clear skies ahead (look up during the day to see if you're lucky enough to spot a red kite). And with no phone reception on site, quiet holidays are practically guaranteed...

The pods have electricity, heating and free wifi. Camp beds can be hired from the Powys Pods team.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

The farm dogs are working dogs, and will not usually be on a lead. They are not usually around the campsite part of the farm, but this can't be guaranteed. There may be other dogs on the farm too.

The two resident dogs will be protective of their territory around other dogs, and will bark initially. You must leave your dog in the car when you arrive, so that the owners can introduce all the dogs in a controlled manner.

Please bring a bed or mat for your dog to sit/sleep on in the pod.

All dogs MUST be wormed before coming onto the site, using a wormer with Praziquantel to kill tapeworms. Your dog must have been treated within three weeks of your stay: details of this will be asked before your arrival.

Bookings of 3 or more adults between the age of 18-29 are not allowed.

Email responses were very quick, everything we needed was there when we arrived.
View from the pods was spectacular, no other words.
Pod was plenty spacious enough for our double airbed and all our belongings, electricity in the pod was a bonus as allowed a lamp and heater (wasn't needed in the warm weather).
Large covered area with two sinks and draining boards, two picnic benches, a barbecue and worktop space for cooking etc. meant it didn't matter if it rained.
Access to a fridge was a good bonus especially in hot weather.
Two showers and three toilets, showers were hot and powerful, the whole setup was clean and functional.
Lots of nice walks out from the property, very close to a trekking centre which would be a great treat for families or anyone else loving horses.
On a farm which meant there were animals about including some friendly dogs.
Host was lovely, left us to our own devices for the most part but was contactable if needed.

    Disliked:

Not alot, fridge could do with replacing or a good clean but nothing major.
If you are hoping for a quiet escape, consider that you may be sharing the space with other campers! We were lucky and there on our own but if you are a couple wanting privacy consider booking the top, private pod instead of one of the main ones.

From the manager...

Thanks for leaving such a details review, it sounds like you had a lovely time.

Apologies for the fridge, it had had a recent good clean but does get a lot of use - there will be two fridges up and running shortly for more space as well :)

Hope to see you again

Amazing weekend! Remote location full of surprises and fully equipped for all our needs. Parking area located close to site, fridge-freezer, dog friendly, heaters in each pod, warm shower and wet room. We had a lovely BBQ and the fire pit is perfect for a late night session. Fresh Naturally fed drinking water available and games and chairs are located around the back of the communal area. This place is unreal and perfect for small or large groups. Would. I go again? I would. 2 nights stay is recommended as you will fall in love with this place forever

I recommend finding out the exact position of this site before leaving. Don't rely on phone signal 📶 as it's non existent. However WiFi at the site is top class. Also a large Co op in hay on wye is only open until 4 on Sunday however spar is open until 7.

From the manager...

Thanks for the lovely review - we hope to see you again!

Phone signal is very patchy in the whole area, so we send out detailed instructions of how to find us via email before your stay.
