- Extensive camping field in a wild area near a lake
- Wildlife haven: look out for buzzards, newts, toads and otters
- Wild swimming allowed in the lake
The extensive camping field at Gwalia Farm is in a wild area near a lake, with flattened patches perfect for pitching tents. The area has plenty of wildlife including orchids, dragonflies and damselflies, buzzards, kites, frogs, newts, toads and sometimes nightjars, glow worms and even the occasional otter.
The site has its own (untreated) spring water supply and campfires are permitted. There are no showers, but guests can swim in the small lake (please note that the site doesn't offer any safety equipment or supervision).
The farm has goats, chickens and sheep, and a large vegetable garden using organic principles. Cars are parked a short walk from the field.

Many sites set a maximum occupancy of 6/8 people per pitch, so try breaking your booking down into smaller groups to generate more results. For example, if you’re a group of 10, enter 5 people in your initial search and then book 2 pitches.
However, where the pitch or accommodation occupancy allows it, you can make a booking for up to 30 adults and 30 children in one booking.
To book multiple pitches or accommodation, use the 'Special requests' box on the booking page to ask to be sited together. Complete the booking form for the first booking (you can add a password and save your card so that we remember your details). Then click "Make another booking like this" at the top of the confirmation page to make the next booking.
Large groups: check the listing page for any group restrictions set out in the terms and section titled ‘Please note’.
Large tents/caravans: check the restrictions on unit dimensions to ensure your unit is suitable for the space you will be provided with.

From Aberystwyth, take the A487 to Machynlleth then the A489 to Cemmaes. In Cemmaes turn up hill (left if travelling West, right if travelling east). Continue up the hill (don't turn off toward Brynmeirig/Treehouses), and at the top of the hill the road takes a sharp right, continue following the road down a steep hill. The road then turns sharp left, past Troed-y-Ffordd, Gwalia is the next property, a yellow farmhouse with outbuildings. The camping lay-by is past the house on the left-hand side. There is a sign on the entrance to the camping field - pitch where you like and drop by the house to say hello.
From Shrewsbury, take the A458 west to Mallwyd, then take the A470 south to Cemmaes. Follow directions as above.
The farm is in the Dyfi Valley, around one and a half miles from Cemmaes and a pub serving evening meals.
