Cor.. Have a look at this site’s setting: parked alongside the Tanat river and surrounded by peaks in the spectacularly scenic Tanat Valley in mid Wales’ Berwyn Mountains, it’s right near the pretty village of Llangynog, where the Tanat and Eirth rivers meet.

And there’s more: right on the edge of Snowdonia National Park, the park’s surrounds are not only scenic but they're next door to a huge 120-acre mountain bike park and also handily set for jaunts to the market towns of Welshpool and Oswestry, plus the Vyrnwy and Bala lakes.

The smashing views are 360 – at every turn you’ll see grass, trees and mountains – and as the site’s bordered by a river, there’s the option to have a go at fishing nearby. This is a smashing site for walkers too: several hiking trails lead directly from the site and it’s a three-hour trek (or a 20-minute drive) up to Wales’ highest waterfall, Pistyll Rhaeadr. A gated dog walk runs alongside the riverbank (and two dog-friendly pubs are within easy walking distance).

The sanitary block – with free hot showers – has been hailed by previous guests as immaculate and spotless.

Liked:	This is a very scenic campsite. Static caravans, touring caravans, tents & motorhomes. We were on a motorhome pitch next to the river. So nice to fall asleep to the sound of the water. Facilities were very clean. Info room with book swap, DVD's and local information. The couple who run the site could not have been nicer. We will definitely stay here again.

Uneven pitch, had to ask for us to be moved to have any chance of levelling the caravan.

Some road noise, worse in the morning.

Toilet block needs updating, but should not complain, we practically had it to ourselves.

Thank you for your review. We will be upgrading the showers at the end of this season, we are sorry you felt we did not pitch you as well as you would have wished. Our site does have some uneven pitches but we do provide blocks to help level the caravans if required.

Very friendly welcome by the owners on arrival and gave some great insight into the local area. The site is very well maintained and was nice and peaceful during our stay. Our pitch was lovely, we had the pleasure of the hard-standing pitch with the river running behind and great views every way you look! Shower was warm and spacious for getting dry/dressed after. I'd highly recommend this site and the surrounding area... we'll be returning!

We have now updated our internet listings to highlight that we don't have facilities on site for children, so that anyone booking is aware of this now, and have this information upfront rather than being disappointed on arrival. We also do not allow ball games or bikes to be ridden around the site, due to safety and the fact that we offer a peaceful retreat for our customers who come here.

Local attractions

Several walks lead directly from the site, and you can lace up your boots, pack up a picnic and hike the eight miles up to Wales’ highest waterfall, Pistyll Rhaeadr if you’re feeling particularly energised.

Other outdoorsy pursuits within easy reach include horse riding, fishing and cycling… And as the site is right near Llangynog village, you’re also well placed for challenging and spectacularly scenic bike rides around the Milltir Cerrig mountain pass along the B4391, which runs between Llan Ffestiniog and Llanfyllin.

For those who take their mountain biking seriously, Hensett is a five-minute pedal from a popular mountain biking park. Set across 120 acres of private woodland, the park’s got an excellent uplift, which means adventurers can save all their energy for tackling the fast and flowy trails down the wooded and rocky slopes.

If you fancy checking out the area’s lakes, the route over the mountain to Bala – 90 minutes’ bike ride or 25 minutes by car – is a highly scenic one, and at the end you’ll be greeted by lots of watery sports such as canoeing, windsurfing and whitewater rafting, or climbing, hiking, cycling, abseiling, archery and campcraft if you’d prefer to stay dry. Lake Vwrnwy is an easy half hour away.
