General

  • Peaceful countryside site near the Llandegley Rocks
  • On-site carp fishery and nearby fishing in the Severn
  • Pub serving food within walking distance

Anglers, hikers, pub goers and horse riders… settle serenely down at this site for all of what you seek, in a peaceful position in the Powys countryside.

Spring Rock Fishery is set near the River Severn and the Llandegley Rocks, with several public rights of way starting right from it including a spectacular waterfall walk and forest hikes. It has its own carp fishery for anglers of all abilities, made up of a 15-feet lake with mirror, common, ghost and koi carp up to 25lbs; river fishing and fly fishing are both available nearby.

Several sports and leisure centres with swimming pools are in in the area too, along with a riding centre and pony trekking, 4x4 drives and kayaking along the Wye. And whatever flavour of hol you go for, you'll likely like a stroll to the Severn Arms within walking distance of the site, which serves real ales, pub grub and takeaway (please note there's a short roadside section on the walk to the pub).

Spring Rock has a toilet and shower block, a separate washing up area and a chemical disposal point.

Please note

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Dogs are not allowed in the accommodation units.

A charge of £0.20 applies for the use of shower.

Only a limited number of anglers is allowed to fish at any one time. Please use the 'special requests' box to express your interest (unfortunately, requests cannot be guaranteed). Anyone wishing to fish the carp specimen lake must have appropriate carp fishing equipment including large 42” landing net, unhooking mat, carp care medikit and rod licence.

Please be advised the site is currently undertaking essential works and there may be disturbance during operating times between 8am and 8pm.

Thanks guys, the new lake will be easier as it’ll be stocked with lots of smaller fish easier to catch than the larger older wiser carp in the specimen lake!

Area, was nothing to do..... Nothing there for kids, was constantly told off and rules rules rules.... Charged too much for use of showers

From the manager...

Sorry our site did not suit with your requirements, we do not offer any play park etc as we do heavily advertise our site as a peaceful, quiet, country side site with much to see and do out and about exploring. Perhaps when booking a site in the future have a look at what they offer on site to see that it fits with your requirements and also under terms will state their site rules again to see that they suit with your requirements we have kept ours to a bare minimum of 3 that is sufficient to keep our guests safe on site during their stay. Thanks for the booking and giving us a try!

A cheap site, but not a great site. 20/08/2018

Modern and clean facilities, use of eco lighting is to be applauded. Shower itself was excellent, but there are issues. Pitch was exceptionally cheap and as a base of operation, it works. Owner was friendly and greeted us, free pen lights were a nice touch and actually useful as it's very dark at night (our first night was clear and the stars were staggering).

Overall the site reminds me of Jurassic Park "no expense spared", but I think some further refinement is needed.

    Disliked:

Shower cost is highest I've ever seen. Being just off the main road you do hear the cars at night (which are few), especially as they go over the cattle grid. Shower cubicles are either too small or just badly designed. A taller or larger person would soak everything inside it such as clean clothes, towel. There is also a road running right behind the pitches with the occasional vehicle racing up it, even at night. Taps are the kind where you press and they slowly release, but the force of the water meant it sprayed everywhere.

From the manager...

Thank you for the review, just to reassure anyone else wishing to book it is completely safe here there are no dinosaurs walking about possibly the odd fossil but that’s about it! Pleased to see you acknowledge our “eco” lighting we endeavour to do everything we possibly can to be environmentally friendly from solar thermal for assisting to heat our hot water, solar pv to assist in generating our electricity requirements and much much more. Perhaps our cheap pitch price would then out way the awfully expensive 20 pence per minute showers, most sites I’ve visited charge this but usually only a choice of £1 which you have to purchase cards but only during office hours so ours gives you the full freedom of choosing the amount you wish to spend and the length of time you’d like. We are very lucky to have such stunning dark nights to enable you to see the so many stars on clear nights something again we work hard not to destroy with over excessive unnecessary out door lighting to ensure our guests get to enjoy the full experience that nature has to offer! Not had traffic noise mentioned before as most state how peaceful and quiet our site is but perhaps in a tent you do hear everything at all times, hopefully our new lake will help to again reduce the very small amount of traffic noise for those in tents.

Local attractions

After a leisurely time fishing on site, more of the same can be landed at the local pub's section of the Severn; via fly fishing at Rhayader or Llyngwyn, or in the Wye from the nearby town of Builth Wells.

Other active options easily accessed from here are pony trekking and horse riding, 4x4 experiences, Wye Valley kayaking and hikes around the Elan valley. Cyclists should also like the hundreds of bikes and loads of cycling bits at the National Cycle Museum in local town Llandrindod Wells.

If you're up for events, the Royal Welsh Showground at Llanelwedd near Builth Wells hosts events throughout the year including the Royal Welsh Show in July, the Smallholders' Show in May, the Winter Fayre in December, dog and horse shows, and two antique fairs.

You could also have a look at the red kite feeding station at Gigrin Farm, or take to the car for day trips: the Brecon Beacons, Aberystwyth and Hay-on-Wye are all within an hour.
