General

  • Quiet wildlife haven by the River Ithon
  • Free fishing on site
  • Licensed bar with Welsh beers, malt whiskies and more

Now this is a site that's fully in tune with its surroundings... peaceful and sheltered Disserth Caravan and Camping Park is in a wildlife haven on the banks of the River Ithon, where red kites and buzzards hover overhead and where you might catch a glimpse of the resident otter or kingfisher.

Grayling trout fishing is available on site too and is free for guests; just remember to bring your rod licence. Junior explorers enjoy seeing what they can uncover in the depths with a net here as well; no licence required.

(If angling's your thing, this is the area for it: the River Ithon is a tributary of the mighty River Wye, one of the best spots in the country for fishing and visited by anglers the world over to land salmon and trout from its waters.)

Disserth Caravan and Camping Park is also quite in tune with what guests might fancy on hol, as it has a licensed bar on site with a good selection of Welsh beers and malt whiskies, as well as soft drinks, tea and coffee. Its well-kept amenities are in a modern log cabin with individual rooms, all with a toilet and washbasin and most also with a shower. Laundry and dishwashing facilities are also provided on site.

Please note

Facilities/activities including wachine machines are subject to extra charges payable on arrival.

Friendly, help full staff. Very clean site with very reasonable rates for camp pitch. Has excellent shower blocks, microwave, fridge & washing machine etc and with good WIFI . We found it to be a very Peace-full, tranquil site with small running stream behind. We had two day stay & enjoyed having two nights very peace full sleep. Its a small 10 min drive to local Tesco,Aldis stores & great chip shops.

    Disliked:

One very small niggle that ground for pitching tent on was hard and would recommend heavy duty tent pegs.

From the manager...

Thank you for such a glowing review and pointing out how near Aldis and Tesco are to the site. As to the hard ground that is a consequence of the unusually dry warm summer we are being blessed with, knocking tent pegs into the ground is not normally a problem here in Wales. We trust your family have many more enjoyable camping trips.

We stayed 2 nights in the morph pod it was fab, cannot recommend this site enough. The pod had pull down beds, which were comfy, and left you plenty of floor space. It also has a small lamp, kettle and two mugs. A small table and chairs were on the deck, along with two comfy relaxing chairs where we could sit out on the grass. The owner Mike was very helpful, the wifi fab, toilets showers were spotless, and the washing up area had a fridge and microwave, they have deffiently thought of everything. Beautiful church to have a look around, and plenty of lovely walks. We also went to The Elan valley, Rhayader, bluith well, llandrigdog wells and went to see the kites being fed. Fab few days and cannot wait to return.

    Site was nice and clean

    Disliked:

The wardens kept telling us to pick up our dogs poo in pouring down rain, all we heard everyday was either a mower or strimmer, and we felt awkward because owners kept looking at us like something on the bottom of their shoe, they no BETTER than us,we will not be going back there no will we recommend it and could not use wife unless we went up to toilet block

From the manager...

I am sorry that the park wardens kept having to ask you to pick up your dog mess irrespective of the weather, they were simply doing their job and responding to complaints from other visitors to the park which also included fellow dog owners. Those guests probably will not be disappointed that you will not be returning to Disserth. Alternatively if you had taken your dogs for walks off the park instead of keeping them chained up all day that might have helped the situation. As to the sound of a strimmer and mower unfortunately your stay was in June and everything is growing fast and needs attention to keep the park tidy and up to expectation. However these items were not in use before 0930 weekdays and could not have been in use all the time as you suggest because unfortunately your stay was during the very wet week in June.

It is always good to hear people enjoyed a camping visit even when some inclement weather means the tent is packed away wet. Have fun on your future camping trips.

Very tranquil site, description very accurate. Very friendly site owners.

    Disliked:

Surprised that the bar wasn't open when we went across to it at approx 9.30 p.m. Too late to go and get wine etc.

From the manager...

We are a small park of 25 touring pitches and twenty five static caravans so if we have no customers in the bar after 9pm I am afraid we close and lock up which I am afraid I do not feel is unreasonable. If a drink was so important I wonder how you managed up to 930pm before you thought of using our facilities. As to facilities for children our website advises what we are and that is a very quiet tranquil park, I am afraid in my experience quiet and entertainment are at other ends of the spectrum and as I have said before the Wifi might not be brilliant but it is free unlike a lot of club sites.

From the south
Leave Builth Wells heading north on the A470 and travel to Newbridge on Wye. At the New Inn in Newbridge on Wye, turn right onto the road signposted Llandrindod Wells and continue to the bend marked with hazard reflectors. Local attractions

Disserth Caravan and Camping Park is in a nifty spot to use as a base to tackle the walks and bike rides of mid-Wales, or for visiting the shows and events of the nearby Royal Welsh Showground. The Elan Valley and the Red Kite Feeding Centre at Gigrin Farm are ten minutes' drive to the north.

Also have a look at nearby Abbey Cym Hir Hall at Llandrindod Wells, a neo-Elizabethan country mansion built in the nineteenth century, and at the Judge's Lodgings in Presteigne, a recreation of a nineteenth century judge's house – courtroom included.

Llandrindod Wells has the National Cycle Collection of Wales in its National Cycle Museum as well as an 18-hole golf course.
