General

  • Mid-Wales countryside under an hour’s drive away from the Welsh coast
  • Family run for 15 years
  • Stables nearby

On your marks, get set, and CrinGOed to this friendly, family-orientated camping and caravan park sitting pretty in the mid-Wales countryside under an hour’s drive away from the Welsh coast.

A warm welcome from the owners awaits: they've been working hard for 15 years to perfect this family-run gem, leading to a well laid-out park set against spectacular woods. Comfort is the name of the game here: hot showers and electric hook-up is available as are dishwashing facilities, a laundry, chemical disposal point and access to wifi.

Kids will enjoy the play area and games room, and there’s even the chance to don your whites and try a swift knockaround with tennis also available on site. Well, it wouldn’t be a family holiday without spot of healthy competition, would it...? Dogs are allowed all year round too, so be sure to bring the pooch along to adjudicate.

Stables and a small brook close to the site also provide little nature lovers with plenty to see out and about, perfect for dousing them with a plentiful helping of fresh air and seeing that they can’t avoid a good night’s kip.

nice little site with flaws 18/06/2018

    Pretty camp site. Friendly people

    Disliked:

No Wifi on site despite being advertised. The girls were not keen that there were bugs in the Showers and loos. The entrance is pretty narrow for larger motor homes. Over hanging roses perfectly positioned to scrape along the sides or your vehicle. Pity, so easy to fix.

From the manager...

There are times when one night stop overs find more flaws than all our other guests put together. When someone is so critical it's only right we put the record straight. Here in Llanbrynmair a beautiful part of Mid- Wales, a rural location there are at this time of year wild life is abundance and yes the occasional bug might be hiding in our facilities, especially if the doors are left open. Oddly it was judged as immaculate by two separate grading inspectors just last week, who called in without an appointment.

Child friendliness another 6, forgive me thought you had older children, so the play park and football pitch were not for you then. Sorry no games machines here in rural wales.

Wifi code, It works perfectly fine, access can be secured with your own facebook password. Without facebook access is easy enough if you request the log in code. No such request was made! So a score of 2 I'm surprised it didn't register a zero.

In 18 years of establishing a high reputation here at Cringoed, this is a first for us, the entrance is narrow, just had a 40 ft static caravan delivered no marks on it or the lorry. As for the overhanging roses we dont have any. I've checked for any over hanging foliage that would be an issue sorry there isn't any.

Finally customer service well an 8, not bad but when guests enter the incorrect dates in the system and we deal with the confusion rather than creating paperwork with Pitch up, you know an 8 is just about as good as it gets in this case.

I see you do not intend to recomend our site, well there's a surprise. Flaws we have them for sure and we work hard to respond to all feedback, sometimes the flaws are mis-judged or just wrong. As for value for money you must have stayed in some low priced camp sites. WE offer great value for money for couples and families.

From the manager...

Simon, Thank you for your comments, a little puzzled as to why as a mature couple you marked us so low for child friendliness. With a lovely play area for children who come back every year this seems a rather odd mark.

We also have on site bikes free of charge and a small games room, not quite an appropriate reason to mention this as you were not staying here with Children.

Directions

Cringoed is just about an hour from Shrewsbury and the M54 motorway and less than two hours from Birmingham, so we're easy to reach from most of the UK. From Welshpool, follow the A470 to Newtown, continue on towards Machynlleth, through the villages of Caersws, Clatter and Carno. At Llanbrynmair take the B4518 towards Llyn Clywedog and Staylittle.

Local attractions

Cringoed is at the gateway to Snowdonia, not far from the sea and the Cambrian Mountains, yet conveniently placed near to a myriad of main roads which makes exploring the surrounding area as relaxing as staying put on site.

One mile away you’ll find the village of Llanbrynmair with its convenience store and homely pub and just over 20 minutes away by car you’ll reach the slightly larger Machynlleth where you can stock up on all the essentials. After the mooching, coffee, cake and a good cask ale are surely in order and the cafés and pubs will be sure to serve your every holiday need. For a different kind of round, there’s a golf course too.

The Centre for Alternative Technology has made its home just on the outskirts of the town, so nip by there to pick up tips about green living from the best - and the interactive displays provide plenty to occupy little hands (and even feet).

For those in need of a fix of shopping, dining or maybe just a trip to the National Library of Wales, Aberystwyth is about an hour’s drive south.

Join the Glyndŵr's Way nature trail from the site. From farmland to moorland, forests to lakes and reservoirs - you can explore the best of the Welsh countryside and get your fill of cultural and natural history as you follow the footsteps of Owain Glyndŵr. The hefty footpath runs for 135 miles - but for those (possibly many) who don’t fancy tackling the entire thing, stretches of it provide a challenging enough hike. For walkers wanting more, Snowdonia is also within easy reach.

Kids agitating for an adventure? Let off some steam at the Corris Railway - a day out here will be packed with more than enough factoids for them to choo through. First stop; the museum, then experience history in action on an impressive steam locomotive trip along the first narrow gauge railway in mid-Wales. Just check before you go for departure times and to find out which steam-haul services will be operating.

Day trip options are in abundance. Twitchers - check out the Red Kite Centre which is a 40-minute drive away and is a great conservation site where you can enjoy fantastic sights of some of our most stunning feathery friends.

Prefer more sea than sky? Aberdovey (also 40 minutes by car) has watersports from the high octane to the high relaxing - sailing, rowing, canoeing, fishing… take your pick. The award-winning beaches are ideal for those perfecting the art of spectating too.

Barmouth harbour, just under an hour to the west, also offers uncrowded beaches for you to take up your spot in the sunshine.

Must see

  • MOMA Wales - Y Tabernacl (8.5 miles)
  • Rheilffordd Talyllyn Railway (18.5 miles)
  • Powis Castle & Garden (21.0 miles)
