General

  • Quiet adults-only riverside site in Crickhowell town in the Usk Valley
  • Between the Black Mountains and the Brecon Beacons National Park
  • Excellently maintained amenities including powerful hot showers

Peaceful times in Powys for adults only, along with spectacular valley views, a river setting, outdoor pursuits galore, and amenities so sparkling that the shower here has been lauded as 'the best I've ever had on a campsite' by a grateful former guest… it's a cert that you should meander along to Riverside Caravan Park.

Friendly local pubs, speciality shops and restaurants are within a five-minute walk.

Riverside's spankingly up to date amenities include a laundry room, a washing-up area and a block with toilets and those lauded powerful hot showers.

Lovely location with great views, only a 10 minute walk into town with some lovely old pubs which are dog friendly, we never eat out but the meals looked nice. Clean if dated Toilet & Shower Block. The site has Wifi only we did not use it.The warden is the most helpful of people doing his upmost to ensure everyone is happy and enjoying their stay. Dogs are welcome but not allowed to be exercised on site however Bullpit Meadow is just the other other side of the site boundary, a wide open space with riverside walks.

We both liked the site and understand that there is work to be carried out on the shower block. It was raining very heavily and the ground was very wet. The town of Crickhowell is excellent and the local pubs are good for food and drink.

    Disliked:

Chemical waste point needs to be re- sited.

The campsite location was fantastic in the quiet, quaint village ... 09/09/2017

The campsite location was fantastic in the quiet, quaint village of Crickhowell. Gorgeous mountain scenery and rustic Welsh buildings. The owner Alex was lovely and told us everything we needed to know when we arrived. He mentioned he was a new owner, and he's doing everything right! We didn't use the showers as it was only a one-night stay to test out a self-build camper van, but the park was clean, tidy and quiet. Being an adults-only park, the only noises were birds singing and the occasional dog barking, but as an owner of 3 border collies myself, this didn't bother me. There's a great pub a literal 20 second walk with a beer garden overlooking the river. The pitches had there own marked out spaces, with water taps and electric hookups all in close proximity. The toilet block was clean and efficient, as well as the washing up facilities. What a fantastic park, will be visiting again!

Local attractions

Crickhowell and its surrounds are popular Powys bases for outdoor adventurers, who come to hike, mountain bike or climb the Brecon Beacons and the Black Mountains, take to the skies paragliding and hang gliding, or cast off for plump brown trout in the Usk river.

Cycling and walking trails for all ages are in the area too, such as the Crug Hywel or Table Mountain path a mile from Riverside, rising up for 451 metres above sea level to Crug Hywel's flat top and extensive Iron Age Celtic fort. Another excellent wander is alongside the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal four miles away (you can of course take a canal trip out onto the water as well).

The history of Wales as the world's biggest producer of iron and coal is told at the acclaimed Blaenavon World Heritage Centre six or so miles away, centred around the quarries, coal and ore mines, workers' homes and furnaces of Blaenavon Ironworks. A visitor centre, museum, gallery and regular events and exhibitions delve into the full tale.

Also around to see is the market town of Abergavenny (six miles), a pick-up point for the region's long-distance trails of the Marches Way, the Beacons Way and the Usk Valley Walk, all passing through the town. The bookshops and castle of Hay-on-Wye are about 20 miles away, and Cardiff within 40.

Must see

  • Blaenavon Ironworks (6.0 miles)
  • Big Pit: National Coal Museum (6.2 miles)
  • Blaenavon World Heritage Centre & Tourist Information Centre (6.3 miles)

National Trust

  • Skenfrith Castle (14.9 miles)
  • The Kymin (19.6 miles)
