Campsites in Brecon: from frill-free sites to fancy stays

This is a part of the world where the accommodation choices welcome everyone from the hardcore hiker hauling all their own kit around to the rural dabbler who’d very much like to reward their efforts with a hot tub soak and a comfy bed, ta. Wherever you fit in along that scale, stays out in the open air can be yours with our fab range of Brecon campsites and holiday parks.

If you’re part of the first gang, a campsite in the Brecon Beacons has to be the obvious choice for putting yourself within easy reach of the trails, mountains and waterfalls you’ve come to see. Go for the full wild camping experience if you really want to go for it with the outdoor life or up the comfort level by finding somewhere that will provide you with a kitchen, a café or a bar to sort that end-of-day meal and drink.

Not able to bring all your kit, or need the promise of a tad more comfort to spur you along to the end of your hike? Travel light by settling into one of our Brecon Beacons camping pods or find something fancier among our collection of shepherd’s huts, bell tents, yurts, tipis and wigwams(yep, you might even find that hot tub too…).

Top attractions and activities for stays at Brecon campsites

Well, there are walks galore, of course, from gentle waterfall wanders to intrepid 100-mile hikes on the Beacons Way. Perhaps you’ll want to scale the heights of Pen y Fan, venture underground with a local cave explorer or take a leap of faith on a canyoning outing. Horse riding, mountain biking on the trails around Talgarth or Brecon, canoeing at Llangorse Lake or over on the River Wye – it’s safe to say you’re not likely to run out of things to do around here.

It doesn’t all have to be go, go, go though if you need a bit of a breather – there’s some splendid fishing to be had on the River Usk (and some Brecon campsites have their own fishing too) and some equally splendid pottering in lovely towns like Crickhowell, Abergavenny and Hay-on-Wye (and Brecon itself, natch). It’s worth spending some time looking up, too – by day you may spot red kites, and by night there’s often a dazzling display of stars within the UK’s first International Dark Skies Reserve.

Something for a damp day? (These can happen around here… just *coughs* occasionally…) Try out the Big Pit – National Coal Museum for a glimpse into the area’s past, shelter under the giant glass dome at the National Botanic Garden of Wales, or delve underground at Dan-yr-Ogof, part of the National Showcaves Centre.
