General

  • Peaceful site next to the River Taf in rural Pembrokeshire
  • Close to the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and the Preseli Hills
  • Woodland walks, small farm park and modern heated amenities block

Pembrokeshire’s perhaps most famed for its stunning coastline – that’s the feature that gave it the country’s only coastal national park, after all… Inland’s definitely worth a bit of exploration too though, especially if you’ve bagged a spot at Wellstone Country Camping.

A stay here is a proper rural escape – this peaceful south Wales site between Tegryn and Llanfyrnach is on the banks of the River Taf, with woodland and riverside walks around the grounds and corners where those with the appropriate licence can dangle a rod in the waters. Kites and kingfishers are among the natural residents you may spot as you wander around the place, and there’s a little farm park where you can hang out with furry friends including rabbits, goats and chickens.

This is a wifi-free site, so you’ll need to step away from the gadgets and find more traditional entertainment. Free-roaming kids and dogs (and grownups too, of course) have plenty of space for games, barbecues and campfires, and there are heaps of family-friendly days out nearby (beaches, horse riding, theme parks, a waterpark – the list goes on…)

Facilities on site are fairly basic but well kept, including a modern and heated toilet and shower block, and a washing-up area. A couple of pubs are within a few minutes’ drive if you fancy having dinner cooked for you.

Beautiful, quiet and fantastically well-equipped (and clean) campsite. The yurt was comfortable, clean and superbly warm when the stove got going. The outside kitchen space was great, everything you'd ever need for any meal. Loads of supplies too - wood, firelighters, lights, fire pits, candles on request etc etc. We had a fantastic stay and would go again.

    Disliked:

Being near a river the campsite is naturally damp, so bring wellies!!!

Great couple who run this site, would do anything for you and bought us lots of firewood every night. Checked in every day to see if we needed anything.
Yurt was lovely and clean and very cosy with the log burner. Beds were made up and yurt was very clean.
Great to have a separate kitchen area next to the Yurt, nice touch.
Toilet and shower block kept clean with plenty of hand sanitizer.
Nice peaceful site and very relaxing.
My daughter also loved the Alpacas

*Loved* everything except the weather. Thelma & Tom were so warm, lovely and relaxed - they couldn't be more helpful (Thelma, thanks for the washing tabs, that was a lifesaver with the muddy washing, and Tom, thanks for offering to move our camping gear with your tractor when we were leaving).
The campsite is small, set in beautiful woods along a small river/stream. There are two self contained shower/toilets and a further two toilets - clean with warm showers and a washing up shed with fridge and plug socket to charge phones etc. For any animal lovers, they have some Alpacas / Llamas (not sure which, but they were comical to watch!!) We loved our pitch by the river, private and peaceful - even the mud couldn't spoil it for us, it was a little slice of heaven (we were here for a week during the storms!!). This is a back-to-basics campsite in a gorgeous setting where you can just sit back and enjoy it's peaceful beauty around the campfire with a nice glass of something! There's little to no wi-fi but our 16yr old and 19 yr old didn't seem bothered as they were just happy to spend some family time building fires (when the weather permitted) and playing in the river with our small dog.
We had some lovely days out at Newport Sands and at Ceredigion (both approx 25 mins drive away) - thanks to the lovely neighbours of the campsite who advised us to try Newport Sands - it was gorgeous there and we'll be taking you up on the offer of a cuppa next time we visit :)
If you're a fan of big campsites with bars and entertainment, pools etc, this won't be for you - but if you love a bit of true camping surrounded by gorgeous woodland and river, you would struggle to find a cosier, friendlier site than this. We'll definitely be back!! Thanks Thelma & Tom, you were a pair of troopers that week - see you next time we come up xxx

Gorgeous location, very green and a wild camping feel to it. Good space between neighbouring tents. Lovely owners who were so welcoming. We were allowed to stay up near the cottages due to the storms the week before which impacted on the usual camping area. We therefore shared a bathroom with the other campers which was in one of the cottages. Really clean and great shower.

Lovely campsite and the owners couldn’t do enough unfortunately the main campsite was flooded and water logged but the owners made a make shift campsite in the main grounds and couldn’t do enough for us. There’s a stream and woods for the kids to run around in. No phone signal, peaceful and they allowed campfires which was brilliant. Good facilities, showers, toilets , fridge and washing up areas. It’s in a lovely area with walks and beaches close by.

Local attractions

Between the site and the coast (about a 15-minute drive) are the Preseli Hills, a fab area for a walk, mountain bike ride or a horse/pony trek organised by one of the local stables. It’s also an intriguing area on a historic front, for there are many ancient spots around the area: Castell Henllys Iron Age site and the Pentre Ifan Bronze Age burial chamber are both about 25 minutes away.

If you do fancy heading for the coast, there are splendid beaches in all directions – head north to Newport Sands or south to Pendine, both about half an hour away. For coastal activities, take a long walk on the Pembrokeshire Coast Path or head to Cardigan (25 minutes) for coasteering, kayaking, rafting and the like. The town's Cardigan Island Coastal Farm Park is worth a look for sightings of seals and dolphins.

This is a fab area for family-oriented days out too: Oakwood Theme Park, Blue Lagoon waterpark and Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo are all within a 40-minute drive.
