Wynd Hill Hideaway: Pitches with views towards the sea

General

  • Quiet family-run site in Pembrokeshire Coast National Park
  • A 20-min walk from Pembrokeshire Coast Path and award-winning beaches
  • A 25-minute drive from Oakwood Theme Park and Folly Farm

Peace and quiet, a break from the car, and countryside rife for exploration… sound like everything you could ask for? Get the answers you want at Wynd Hill Hideaway, a small family-run site within 10 acres of private land in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, 10 minutes’ drive from Tenby.

Wynd Hill is a top spot for exploring Pembrokeshire without a car: those with a yen for rambling will be well served as the Pembrokeshire Coast Path is roughly 20 minutes’ walk away across fields and along quiet roads, and those in need of a sandy getaway can make their way to Skrinkle Haven beach, just a short distance further along the coastal path.

For something less pastoral – and requiring a little less effort – hail one of the regular buses that stop outside the gates and take a trip to Tenby, Pembroke or somewhere further afield.

Build up your energy for the day with some eggs laid by the on-site chickens, then, when it’s time to reward yourself for a busy day, pile some coals on the barbecue and fire it up: you can grab some grub and other supplies in the nearby village of Manorbier, a 20-minute walk away.

    Brilliant small campsite.
We were allocated a pitch further away from the main site, tucked away in the trees. This suited us, as the pitch was huge, and we had a dog who was nervous around other dogs.
The campsite owner came out and met us after a bit of confusion over where our pitch was situated. She was lovely and very helpful. Gave us lots of info about the local area and the beautiful beaches and walks from the campsite.
There was only one toilet and shower cubicle for men's and one for women. But even with a full campsite we never had to que. They were also always clean.
There is a lower field to exercise your dog off lead if required.

    Disliked:

The shower lacked water pressure and was a bit of a faff trying to get the correct temperature.

Just got back from a fantastic stay at Wynd Hill Campsite. It is a lovely little site that was perfect for our family, it was really safe for our young children to run around. It is well kept and the facilities were always clean. It is in a great location, about a 20 minute walk into Manorbeir village which has a nice pub, shop and beach. The owners were really friendly and available if you needed any help.

The site is on a very narrow road. We would like to ride the bicycle to Tenby, but it was dangerous.
The place was calm but nearby was a festival with loud music day and night.

    Disliked:

From the manager...

Hello,
We’re very disappointed to see your negative review of our campsite based on things very much out of our control.
The music festival nearby was a once a year thing and unfortunately due to the direction of the wind on the first two nights it could be heard on site despite being over a mile away from us, the rest of the weekend it did not disturb anyone. But unfortunately there was nothing we could do about this and certainly it is not a regular occurrence.
Also we would not agree that our site is placed down a very narrow road, it is the main road between Tenby and Pembroke and used by many cyclists year round. Perhaps you are used to wider roads but for the small, rural county of Pembrokeshire this is a standard size road. I can understand you may not feel comfortable cycling on this road if you are used to having cycle lanes but again - this is beyond our control. Many of our guests bring bikes and cycle to Tenby or other destinations in the vicinity like Manorbier village, Skrinkle Haven and Lydstep beach without any issue.
We are an extremely small, family run business and being given such a poor review based on things entirely beyond our control is very disheartening.
Perhaps in future more research of locations before you camp would help you find a campsite that suits your needs better.
Best wishes,
Llinos

Directions

From Tenby, follow the A4139 coast road through Penally and Lydstep. On leaving Lydstep, you will see a left turn to Manorbier – ignore this turn and stay on the road for roughly another quarter of a mile. Wynd Hill Hideaway is the first property on the left.

Please do not follow satnav-recommended shortest routes. These will take you over ‘The Ridgeway’, which is not suitable for caravans or other large vehicles. On reaching Tenby, reset your satnav for SA70 7SL, via Penally and Lydstep.

Local attractions

You don’t have to go far to begin exploring Pembrokeshire – start in Manorbier village, five minutes’ drive from Wynd Hill Hideaway, with a wander around Manorbier Castle and gardens and a trip to the award-winning beach the castle overlooks. Manorbier beach is one of Pembrokeshire’s top surfing spots, but do be careful of the strong current.

If Manorbier has whet your appetite for watersports, head over to Stackpole Quay, 20 minutes from Wynd Hill, for some kayaking and coasteering or simply dive into the water at one of the many nearby beaches for a swim.

Want another taste of history? Explore Pembroke and Carew castles, both within 20 minutes of the site, or venture a little further with a trip to Cilgerran Castle, an hour away. For some more recent history, make your way to the Tudor Merchant’s House in Tenby, 15 minutes’ drive from the site.

At this point, the kids might be tiring of getting dragged between historical sites, but never fear – there’s plenty within easy reach to keep the whole family entertained: meet the animals at Manor Wildlife Park, let your adrenaline spike on the rides at Oakwood Theme Park, or get a bit of both at Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo, all within 25 minutes of Wynd Hill.
