Penally Court Farm: Site

General

  • Clifftop site a three-minute walk to the pub and 10 mins to the beach
  • 10 minutes’ drive to Tenby for its castle, harbour and boat trips
  • 10 minutes from Heatherton and 30 from Oakwood

Penally Court Farm… a clifftop cracker. Sandy beaches, castles, coastal walks with spectacular views, colourful harbour towns – Pembrokeshire needs little introduction. But this little bit of it, in Penally just above Tenby, deserves more than simply introducing: ideally via fanfares, fireworks, a parade…

But none of the above is needed on this peaceful family-run site. In lush green fields on the cliffs overlooking Tenby, it concentrates on simple, well-maintained facilities that don’t get in between you and the surrounds. You can park up where you stay, cook up alfresco feasts on barbecues, or take a three-minute stroll to a pub with grub in Penally. The village also has a shop for stocking up on basics; bigger stores and supermarkets are under 10 minutes' drive away in Tenby.

Not that you’d only visit Tenby for baby wipes and beef burgers – it’s a handsome harbour town with pastel-hued houses, a castle, a fort (on an island) and lots of spots for eats and treats. And a cluster of beaches. The 20-minute walk into town is a terrific way to introduce yourselves to the area, or you could just run into the sea (five minutes’ walk from the site).

We enjoyed out stay here. It was a family friendly and quiet site.14/08/2022

Really liked the size of the pitch. The site was quiet and staff were really friendly and accommodating.

    Disliked:

Toilets and showers were not clean. Not enough of them for the size of the campsite. There was often large queues for them. The door handles came off frequently and the locks are really difficult for children to use. My son is 9 and he struggled.

The walk to the beach is not 5 mins as stated on the website it is a good 15/20 minute walk along a busy road. Which is fine, but not easy with young children.
The walk into Tenby it's self is also not a 20 walk as stated on the website. It's a good 40/45 minute walk along the beach.
Maybe the website could be updated to reflect this, as families with young children may struggle if they are expecting a short 20 minute walk!

  • Liked:

Lovely clean site with a seaview and very spacious pitches .
The lady who runs the site is lovely and very helpful and accompanies everyone to their pitch when they arrive onsite , this is very good because then nobody can say that you are setting up too close to them etc .
The bins and toilets/ showers are regularly maintained and there are some wet rooms with a shower /sink / toilet all in one which is very good .
It's a short walk to the quiet beach and there are a couple of pubs nearby. If you want to hop on the train , the station is very close by .
The ice - cream van comes onsite daily in the early evening which is a nice extra .
We'll definitely be returning again !!

  • Electric grass tent pitch (six person)

  • Liked:

Large pitches, beautiful stargazing, great location close to beach. Friendly staff that work continuously to ensure bins are emptied and facilities are cleaned regularly. Also, an ice cream can comes on site most days which is always lovely!

    Disliked:

Loud main road traffic and hard to find a toilet when you need it in the morning. There are unisex 4 wet rooms (toilet & shower) on the tent feild and another 2 close by just in the caravan site. They were fine to use but at busy times like first thing in a morning, it’s hard to find an empty toilet, equally, when you’re using the toilet, people are trying to open doors which can be a bit disturbing for the shy!

Our second year here and we still love it! The campsite is perfectly maintained, the showers have toilet, sink and shower in one room so you can get changed easy especially with kids it’s my favourite showers on any campsite I’ve ever been on!
It’s a 5min drive to center of Tenby and right on the link roads for all the attractions!
It’s has 3 brilliant local pubs within walking distance that all serve great food and a petrol station and shop also.

Local attractions

Tenby is a port of call for people wanting more than a paddle on the sea: boat trips will take you round the cliffs or out to spot the seals (pick a sunset cruise for marriage proposals, or just to be romantic) and to visit Caldey Island, a rocky nugget of peace, nature and history offshore where monks have been living since the sixth century (not the same ones, of course).

To hit the beach, popular Saundersfoot and Pendine are 15 and 30 minutes' drive away, while surfers head for the big waves at Broad Haven and Newgale (40 and 50 minutes). The Pembrokeshire Coastal Path is 186 miles long, but don’t feel you have to do it in a day; marked trails along the cliffs give you cracking views and plenty of opps for nature spotting everywhere you go. (A popular short stretch is the eight-miler from Tenby to the castle at Manorbier – and the pub.)

Also in the area, Heatherton World of Activities (10 minutes) gets you zipping through the trees, climbing ropes and driving go-karts; Oakwood Theme Park (half an hour) has rides to thrill and spill your drinks over, and at Folly Farm (20 minutes), you can combine a traditional fairground jolly with meeting farm animals and exotic beasts.

Must see

  • Pembroke Castle (8.4 miles)
  • Pembrokeshire Coast National Park (9.6 miles)
  • Pembrey Country Park (18.0 miles)

National Trust

  • Tudor Merchant's House (1.5 miles)
  • Stackpole Estate (9.0 miles)
