Rainbolts Hill Farm: View over the pitches

General

  • Spacious family-run park with sea views over St Brides Bay
  • A mile from Newgale beach for surfing and other watersports
  • Farm shop on site; pub 15 minutes' walk away

Surfing, hiking, horse riding, coasteering, wildlife spotting… if it’s fresh-air frolics you’re after, the Pembrokeshire coast is a pretty fab pick. And if sea-view sunsets would top that all off nicely, you’ll settle in well at Rainbolts Hill Farm.

From this family-run four-acre site there are stunning views out over St Brides Bay, best taken in at the end of the day as the sun dips below the horizon… Naturally, that’s a fab time to crack open a beer and sizzle a few sausages too; barbies are welcome here and there's a farm shop on site selling top-notch local food and craft beers. For more supplies, decent-sized supermarkets are 10 minutes' drive away in Haverfordwest. Welsh weather not all that warm? Cosy up at the cracking country pub 15 minutes' stroll away.

Having seen the sea from the site, you’ll no doubt want to take a closer look, and this is a fine location to do so. A 20-minute ramble will take you to the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, and the beaches of Newgale, Nolton Haven and Broad Haven are all under 15 minutes away by car. Turn and face inland and you’ll be looking at the Preseli Hills, also a fine place for a scenic hike.

However you’ve spent your day, back at base you’ll be staying at a peaceful place (no parties, please) with heaps of space to chill out, as well as top-notch heated bathroom blocks (ladies' and gents', with toilets and showers) to keep everyone spruced up.

Please note

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

A charge of £0.20 applies for the use of the shower.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Protective masks must be worn at all times in common areas.

A cable measuring at least 10 metres is needed for the electric hook-ups.

The grocery shop is open between 01/04 and 31/10.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Minimum spacing of 6 metres between pitches.

Clean, plenty of space, nice views, clean bathrooms/washing up sinks, EV charging point (type 2), WiFi

    Disliked:

Some of the extras like hiring a fire pit felt overpriced at £15/night. Shop selection could be better, especially ice.

The site was in a great position to access the Pembrokshire Coast and some of the most stunning beaches, ideal for both families and surfers. Nothing was too much trouble, the owner was very relaxed and helpful, I felt perfectly safe there as a lone female camper. The views from the site were amazing, it was always a pleasure watching the sun go down over the bay at the end of the day.

We did enjoy our stay at Rainbolts Hill Farm, the facilities on site was very clean and modern. The views from our camping pitch we're spectacular and had plenty of space. Most of the time it was very peaceful and plenty of friendly people on the pitch too. The beach was only a 5 min drive which very clean and St Davids is roughly 15 min drive too.

    Disliked:

The wind turbine in the field next to the camp site makes a humming sound which can be very annoying and wake you up early hours! The milk options in the shop was very limited, would be nice to see some of the local farmers milk supplied.
Also no fire pit was available on the first night due to the lack of communication when arriving although a refund was issued. We was not made aware of the other showers onsite on our arrival either, they could do with some hangers put up as the floors can get dirty. Other people not cleaning up after themselves in the toilet areas was quite frustrating. There is a policy about dogs being on leads at all times although some people did ignore which was very frustrating!

This site is in a really lovely location close to many beaches, walks and other places of interest. There are two fields, and you can choose where you go, so there is plenty of space for non electric hookups. There was a stone baked pizza van there when we arrived, which was a pleasant surprise so we didn’t have to cook on the first night, fab food, though it would have been great to know about this before arrival. Same with the breakfast van that arrived on Saturday morning, lovely bacon baps. Lots of open space on the field to play ball games, fly kites and it felt safe for the kids to explore a little on their own, say hello to the cows, make new friends etc. The most amazing sunrise and sunsets to be seen from your pitch!

    Disliked:

You have to pay for the showers but at least this means no one is in there luxuriating for a long time while others queue! We never had to wait to get a shower. Some of the showers include a toilet, so if you’re showering with kids, the lack of space and hooks to hang things up can be a little tricky to negotiate. Only two washing up sinks, but again, only once had to wait for one to come free. We felt the cleaning regime overall could be a bit more frequent. Some staff not quite as warm and welcoming as they might be. The non electric field looks quite sloped. The electric points are in the flat field but are quite close together, so a bit of negotiating with neighbouring campers to make sure everyone gets good space.

Only small feedback would be to stock the shop with a few more essentials - we forgot toothpaste and hoped they would sell some but no toiletries were on offer. Good selection of beer was though!

Very clean an tidy toilet block. Only a few toilets and showers but seemed ample never too busy. Shop was spotless and excellent range of necessities and local produce. Burger and breakfast van great. Great views but couldn't really see them from a lot of the pitches.

    Disliked:

Road noise and busy road to pub without pavement was not ideal with a nervous pup, but not the campsites fault!

Local attractions

Watersports on your Welsh wishlist? Bring your surfboard to Newgale beach to join the regulars, or hire kit if you’re travelling light. Those who haven’t quite mastered the art yet can sign up for surf and kitesurfing lessons here, or join sea kayaking, paddleboarding or coasteering tours.

If you're after something a little more leisurely, the family-friendly sands of Broad Haven beach are about 15 minutes’ drive away, or you could don your boots for a ramble along the Pembrokeshire Coast Path. Pony rides, lessons and beach or country canters are all on the menu at the local riding stables, 10 minutes away.

St Davids, 20 minutes away, is worth a jaunt too: the UK’s smallest city is famed for its cathedral and independent shops, and it’s also the meeting point for boat trips to spot wildlife around Skomer and Ramsey islands (bring the binoculars and keep the peepers peeled for puffins and dolphins).
