General

  • Small, peaceful family-run site just outside Marloes village
  • Among spectacular scenery a hike or short drive from the beach
  • Two and a half miles from boat trips to Skomer Island

Head way out west, almost to the far end of a Pembrokeshire peninsula and a peaceful break at Foxdale Campsite, on the edge of the village of Marloes: this small site 25 minutes’ drive west of Haverfordwest is surrounded by splendid scenery, and the pitches are fully sheltered from the breezes that occasionally buffet the nearby coast.

There are some fab hikes around here (particularly for those who choose to treat their boots to a jaunt on the always-scenic Pembrokeshire Coast Path), and some equally excellent options for other ways to see this cracking stretch of coastline: might you be tempted by wildlife-watching boat trips, windsurfing days, surf lessons or galloping through the shallows on horseback perhaps?

Such levels of activity aren’t compulsory, of course (cue sigh of relief from folks seeking flop time). The marvellous Marloes Sands is a mere mile and a half away for easy beach days – the place is so pretty it’s even earned itself a role in a Hollywood film (part of Snow White and the Huntsman was filmed here in 2011).

To feed your outings (whatever they may be), pick up supplies from the village shop or settle in for meals at the pub a short stroll away.

Essential amenities are all sorted on site: showers and toilets, laundry facilities, a fridge-freezer and a washing-up area.

Very very very peaceful campsite! The only sounds you can hear are the birds and the sheep in the field next door.
Good facilities kept very clean. Campsite is immaculately kept with allocated spaces, all very flat and next to trees so some shelter and privacy.
The village is lovely with a convenience shop and a pub. A walk or 7 minute drive to a stunning beach. Great location to get to lots of places nearby.
Campsite manager very friendly and welcoming.

    Disliked:

The wardens camp in the middle of the site but this probably does help with keeping noise to a minimum.

From the manager...

Thank you for your positive feedback. We try our very best to maintain the facilities and surroundings to a high standard.

Regarding allowing customers to pitch at certain times, I'll think you'll find the majority of sites have 'time restricted' arrivals and departure times for their sites. These times are stated on PitchUp booking confirmation, so everyone is aware before arrival. This allows time for existing campers to pack up and leave, for staff to care for the grounds, clean facilities and have some lunch, ensuring we are ready for new arrivals. I'm sure new arrivals appreciate this as it wouldn't be much fun if they arrived to find previous customers still on the pitch or the facilities/grounds etc uncared for. The entrance and exit to Foxdale only allows vehicles moving in one direction to use it at any one time, if we allow customers to freely enter/exit the site at the same time, it could cause chaos with moving traffic.

As you can appreciate, we are only a small site with 4 members of staff and so only have a short period to complete essential maintenance between customers.

We are glad you would be happy to visit again and recommend us, Thank you. Regards, Foxdale.

  • Liked:

Small and friendly site with good facilities within a short distance of all pitches.
The pitch was spacious and the grass in good condition within easy reach of water, electric and waste points.
The staff were all really helpful and couldn't do enough for us on our first trip away in our folding camper - giving advice and even helping us to set up and pack away.
We didn't use them but it was good that the site made available fridges and freezers for those in tents to be able to store fresh food.
Village is lovely with a little shop for essentials and an excellent pub. Close to coastal path for fantastic walks along the Pembrokeshire coast.

    Disliked:

The showers were a little bit weak in terms of water pressure and difficult to maintain at a constant pressure. Wasn't too much of a big deal and probably means that people don't hog the showers for too long! but could be something that needs looking at to make the stay totally perfect.

From the manager...

Thank you for your great feedback, we are so pleased you enjoyed your stay.
We agree with your comments about the showers and are hoping to build a new facilities block in the future which hopefully will address the issue.
We will also pass your comments onto the village shop and The Lobster Pot Pub. Thank you

We look forward to welcoming you again to Foxdale. Regards, Julie and Gwyn

Local attractions

The local beach – an energetic walk or a very short drive away – is clean, uncrowded Marloes Sands, a huge expanse of beach at low tide, with rockpools and unusual cliff formations for added drama. Turn your sights in the opposite direction to hit the north Pembrokeshire coast with a 10-minute drive for the views over St Bride’s Bay.

Hop on a boat at nearby Martin’s Haven for the 15-minute crossing to Skokholm and Skomer islands, bliss for birdwatchers: as well as cormorants, razorbills and many other sea birds, between April and August the islands play home to a sizeable puffin colony.

Skomer is also a good place to see grey seals, although you can often spot them from dry land as well, during the short walk around the cliff tops at Martin’s Haven Deer Park (no deer, but spectacular wildflowers and sea views).

For active types, there are many more fab walks along the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, as well as golf, sailing, windsurfing, sea fishing and pony trekking nearby. Also within a 45-minute drive are the teeny city of St Davids, family-friendly days at Oakwood Theme Park and Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo… plus Pembrokeshire beaches galore of course…
