New Quay camping: a fab break for lovers of all things coastal

Let’s start by getting one thing sorted, shall we? And that’s this rather vital point: what we’re talking about here is New Quay (Wales) camping… and not Newquay (Cornwall) camping. It’s an easy mistake to make, and handily both are excellent places to visit – but it’s certainly worth establishing which one you’re after. Get it wrong and you’re looking at a journey of almost 300 miles to fix that little error… although the family would *probably* see the funny side one day…

(If you are in fact looking for Newquay – Cornwall – camping, there’s no need to disappear off at this point… simply click this way and check out our fab options down in the Cornish surf hub.)

And if you’ve chosen to stick around to find out a bit more about your options for campsites in New Quay (Wales)… well, you’ve made a fine choice indeed, for this sheltered little seaside spot is a top pick for a holiday by the Ceredigion coast. Read on for all the inside info on the best of camping in New Quay…

New Quay (Wales) camping: make the most of your coastal break

It’s (almost) all about the sea over in this gorgeous part of the world, and this Cardigan Bay corner has numerous treats in store for all sorts of west Wales holidays, be they family beach breaks or quiet seaside strolls. One of the real selling points of New Quay is its triple whammy of attractions: beach, coast path and harbour.

To the beach first, for the town has not one but three splendid sandy stretches, with nipper-friendly paddling thanks to a sheltered Cardigan Bay position and a team of lifeguards that keeps an eye on things through the summer.

And then on to the Wales Coast Path, which passes through New Quay as it loops around Wales on its 870-mile journey around the country’s coastline. If you’re not planning to stride along the entire length, there are some fine chunks to amble along around here, including the stretches to Aberaeron and Cwmtydu. Want to cram in as much coastal walking as you can? Check out local bus timetables to get to some of the pretty parts a little further along the way.

It’s quite possible, however, that even in the face of stiff competition from all this, the real highlight around here is the harbour – not so much for its own charms but for the wildlife-spotting trips that set forth from here. In case you’d not heard, Britain’s biggest resident dolphin population hangs out in the waters of Cardigan Bay, and New Quay’s the place to hop on a boat trip to see them.

Prefer to work your own muscles out on the water? There’s a real range of watersports to try out in New Quay, from gentle paddleboarding and sea kayaking days to adrenaline-fuelled coasteering quests to underwater adventures scuba diving and snorkelling.

How to pick your New Quay (Wales) campsite: family haunts and quiet corners

With such varied coastal attractions comes an equally varied collection of places to stay: New Quay camping can be as flash or as stripped back as you wish. Families might like to take a look at the range of west Wales holiday parks full of such facilities as a kids’ club, a swimming pool and a family-friendly bar (hey, the grownups are on hols too…). Campfires, bug spotting and other traditional activities will go a long way to keeping the tiddlers happy if you go for more of a classic camping break but it’s never a bad plan to keep eyes peeled for a place with a playground

If there’s just the two of you on your travels, you may like to consider adding an extra layer of peace to proceedings by picking an adults-only site, or treating yourselves to a cosy stay in a shepherd’s hut, microlodge or bell tent (these options being particularly handy if you’re not in possession of all the camping kit, of course). Beyond that, it’s a question of working out what your ideal location would be: do you want your campsite near New Quay so you’ll have easy access to the town’s attractions, or would you prefer to be out by the coast path so you can trot down to the sea more easily? You might like to sort yourselves out with a sea-view spot, or plonk down somewhere within strolling distance of a pub for easy evening pints. Whatever your prime combo of holiday features might be, we reckon we’ve got it sorted in our New Quay camping options…
