General

  • Family holiday park three miles from the beach
  • Indoor heated pool, clubhouse, restaurant and takeaway
  • Easy access to Cardigan Bay, Newquay and Aberystwyth

There's an absolute cracker of a Cardigan Bay beach near Llandysul in Ceredigion: the beautiful cove and golden sands of Llangrannog, backed by lush green cliffs and claimed as one of Ceredigion's finest sandy spots (view fans also reckon it to have among the best vistas in all of west Wales).

From here, sand fans can kitesurf, board surf, tackle the circular walk around the headland of Ynys Lochtyn, or – possibly the Pitchup.com choice – tackle pub grub from the inn overlooking the beach or homemade ice cream from the beach café below. We would like to be there now please.

If you too would like to be there now please, we reckon a stay three miles away from Llangrannog at family-run Greenfields Holiday Park might be just the ticket: Greenfields is a family park with lots to tickle your fancy laid on for when you're not on the Ceredigion coast: a heated indoor pool (included in the pitch price), a coarse fishing lake in a peaceful corner of the park for a small extra charge, and loads of room for the kids to run about in the surrounding four-acre playing field with toddlers' play area, tennis courts, basketball and football pitch.

Vittles are sorted at the Greenfields clubhouse, which has a restaurant, takeaway and bar as well as regular live entertainment in the summer season; the park also has an amusement arcade, launderette, dog walking area and well-maintained loos and showers. And we did mention it's a mere three miles from the spectacular Llangrannog sands…?

Please note

The indoor swimming pool is open between 01/04 and 02/11.

mainly statics and sited touring caravans only campsite 30/09/2017

  • Liked:

It was a clean caravan suitable for 6 persons only, fully central heated, 3 bedrooms, decent size tv, nice kitchen with a good size fridge freezer, dining table/seating and the shower was lovely to use.
Great play area for children and a good size swimming pool.
The site was very nice. clean, tidy, friendly and was quiet but we did go when children were back at school.
Plenty cutlery etc..and a kettle, microwave and toaster.
Has small decking area but no seating.
Parking by caravan but be careful when raining as it is on grass, not tarmac or gravel.

    Disliked:

The club house and takeaway was not open mid week when we were there 25th-29th September.
Description not as listed: said caravan is 8 person but wasn't as no futon/sofa bed in lounge also no outdoor seating either when it said there was.
It had a sofa and two chairs which looked nice on first impression but they were the most uncomfortable sofa seats we have ever come across they were very hard as if no cushioning under seats like sitting on wooden dining chairs! We ended up placing bed pillows on sofa to sit on to make it comfy.
Needs a larger tray in oven only had a very small one.
No handle on the grill pan (just as well we didn't need to use it).
Odd occasion connected to wifi but very slow so would not advise purchasing it.

Opening the club house at earlier times, however unsure if they do in peak season.

The fact that there was plenty for the children to do at the fun day and the inflatables were free

    Disliked:

we came over the bank holiday and we're pleased to see that there was a fun day on the Saturday , but although there were inflatables there for the children we were disappointed to see that the people in tents were not included in the games. During the whole weekend we felt left out from the whole festivities and constantly felt as though tents were not welcome by the tourers and statics !
To say that the field was not looked after was an understatement , long grass , no lighting and boggy at the entrance. The facilities were quite often dirty both at the field and pool.
We came with 4 other families and upon returning home 16 out of 20 of us came down with a sickness bug ! As far as advertising that you welcome tents it's literally a field where caravaners walk their dogs !

Needs some improvement for campers 30/08/2017

Great fun day for the bank holiday, lovely food in the pub, loads of room for children to play and pool was ok (lovely and warm but needs to be able cleaner)

    Disliked:

the camping side of the campsite does need to see more effort made. Toilet and washing facilities need to be of better standard, field needs to be better maintained, better lighting. I do feel that campers are seen as a nuisance by caravan owners and also campsite staff. Wouldn't return as a camper but would in a static caravan. Also as a party of 21, 14 of us had the bug while camping and were dropping like flies within hours.

We arrived on the Saturday of the august bank holiday weekend. The site was rammed- there are only 2 toilet cubicles and 2 showers for tourers and campers this is woefully inadequate, throughout the weekend the facilities were dirty and toilets blocked. To be honest they were completely disgusting and I'm sure if there were to be a health and safety inspection when the site is full the campsite would be shut down. The site has a club, which was full on both nights we went in, with no seating at all spare. If they are trying to attract more people they need to increase capacity. The swimming pool was cold and could do with a thorough deep clean. There is no shop- a site this size needs a shop even if it only stocks essential items. It rained during our stay- the camping field becomes a mudbath- this could be rectified by graveling the road all the way to the middle of the field. And finally we were fortunate when we arrived that we found a last pitch in the main field- if we were an hour later we would have ended up in the field on the left - where the grass was overgrown and was basically a horse field

Good welcome on arrival. Lots of space in the camping ... 28/08/2017

Good welcome on arrival. Lots of space in the camping field for kids to run around. Pool, which we never found to be dirty on our 2 visits. Family fun day was a great addition on Saturday. Entertained our group all day. Freezer available for ice packs. USB and plug sockets available, a great addition when you're on a non electric camp site. There's also laundry facilities.

    Disliked:

As a camper, I felt like the poor relation compared to the caravans. No lighting anywhere near the fields. The walk to the toilets was quite a jaunt, some low level lighting would go a long way as a guide to where you're headed. Would also help to avoid muddy boggy patches. There are only 2 toilets and 2 showers. The showers run between ice cold and warm, are very small and the only privacy is a shower curtain. There is no wet room drainage so the water and mud make interesting concoction. The toilets are often blocked and not tended to after the early morning clean. I expect a certain level of mud when camping but id at least like to leave the shower clean. The pitches themselves aren't marked so it's a bit of a free for all. I think with a little more effort given to the camping element, it could make a big difference. No on site shop. Take away food poor quality.

Local attractions

Greenfields Holiday Park has handy access to lots of local beaches as well as Llangrannog, like those of New Quay, Penbryn, Aberporth, Aberearon and Tresaith, while the amenities, attractions and first-class vistas of Cardigan Bay and Aberystwyth are within easy driving distance.

But first. After pub grub, pints, ice cream, surfing and/or sunbathing at Llangrannog, lace up the walking boots and prepare for some scenic shots on the camera while trekking around this part of the Cardigan Bay, Ceredigion and west Wales coast: Llangrannog links to the 65-mile Ceredigion Coast Path along the length of Cardigan Bay, which in turn links to the mammoth 870-mile Wales Coast Path for those who'd like to travel weary-footed further.

Even closer to home, Greenfields is less than two miles from a nine-hole golf course – we're sure we don't have to point out that it too has excellent views – and a dry ski slope at the Urdd Centre, a long-established activity centre which also has go-karting, tobogganing, archery, quad bikes, horse riding, climbing, low ropes and an adventure course among other activities.
