We are Martin and Ann Jones, and establishing our smallholding at Pant yr Hwch marks our return to the area we both originate from and the farming environment in which we grew up.

Described by one guest as “a little bit of heaven at the end of a farm track,” Pant yr Hwch is West Wales’s first Feather Down farm.

Our farm is set in picturesque, rolling countryside and are inhabited by a menagerie of animals that include our flock of 15 sheep and their lambs. As a result of our efforts to home grow a wide variety of fruit and vegetables, our Farm Larder is a veritable snapshot of our farming year, and Ann supplements all this with homemade breads, buns and ‘cawl’, a traditional Welsh stew.

Our five tents are located together but well spaced in a peaceful, gently sloping medow giving picturesque views across the wooded river valley below. The shower block is conveniently located in the same field which is a short stroll down from the car park.

Unfortunately we don’t accept dogs at our farm due to the close proximity of our sheep.

Here we farm a flock of rare-breed Badger Face sheep, along with woolly pigs, chickens, ducks and bees, and have also restored the vegetable garden and orchard. We avoid using any artificial fertilisers or chemicals and rear animals that are free ranging and slow grown, which allows native wildlife to flourish and the farm pond to be frequented by wildfowl. Red kites also nest nearby and you’ll likely be lulled to sleep by tawny owls.

We have put great effort into restoring the farm’s buildings to their 18th century origins, employing materials that combine both traditional and 21st-century techniques towards a sustainable, self-sufficient farm. And of course your stay directly contributes to this goal.

Back at the farm Ann makes tasty treat for the Farm Larder using home-grown garden produce and nature’s hedgerow treasures. Slowly fermented breads are a staple to enjoy with freshly collected eggs and home-reared bacon and sausages for breakfast, while her cakes and biscuits for afternoon tea are also a specialty.
