General

  • Camping pods among spectacular scenery in the Teifi Valley
  • Heated and insulated with WC and shower room
  • Many outdoor activities and historic sites within easy reach

Einon Valley Camping Pods is a traditional family farm in the Teifi Valley, with a beef suckler herd and a sheep flock. The farm also grows cereals to provide food and bedding for the livestock.

A small camping pod site was opened on the farm in 2012, currently with two pods. Both have far-reaching views across the Einon valley to the Llanllwni mountains, and benefit from the farm's peaceful setting. The farm is the ideal location to escape from the busyness of life and relax in a beautiful setting.

The pods are wooden structures designed to fit into their surroundings while providing accommodation similar to a tent but with more advantages. They are pleasing to the eye as well as practical being fully insulated with sheep’s wool. Their advantages include:

- Avoid pitching and dismantling tents
- More privacy and security
- Tough construction keeps you warm and dry
- Soundproofing means that adverse weather will not keep you awake
- Electric supply for lighting and heating
- No waking with the early summer morning light

Bring everything you would normally bring for a camping trip except the tent!

The pods have high quality facilities and include a WC, shower room and facilities to wash your dishes with both hot and cold running water provided. Both the pods and other facilities are heated and well insulated for your comfort and convenience.

  • Liked:

The sound of silence (apart from occasional cows and sheep), the incredibly clear starry sky, friendly owners, information pack in the pod, being off grid, clean and shiny wash "block", warmth, size of the pod, tour of the farm and cuddles w the lamb, great GF fish and chips at the Lime Crab in Newquay (worth a 2nd visit for that fish in itself), & a lovely evening spent lounging, reading, playing games, eating (again GF) and drinking at The Hive in Aberaeron. We found phone signal at the top of the field but the lack of wifi felt very freeing & we also loved the lack of other people! Given full marks for wifi because we liked that there was none :-)

    Disliked:

There was nothing to dislike although we would have liked a 2nd loo there as the folk in the other pod weren't in any hurry ;-) Not enough of an issue to stop us planning a return trip.

The most wonderful individual experience of outdoor living 19/04/2016

We stayed in the smaller pod last weekend, a really friendly welcome from Liz the site owner, farmers wife and Mum. Comprehensive invaluable directions as well as information on all local points of interest specific to us after asking what we liked. The pod was clean, dry, imaculate, exactly as per the description. The photos from the web site could not have been more realistic. I am finding it difficult to find the words to describe what a wonderful place this is, the pod as ive said was great, turned out to be the best compromise between an avid camper ( my boyfriend ) and me, who wants to be warm and dry. The facilities were a site to behold, what looked like an iron shed, inside was; 1st door, a warm, clean toilet and sink with hot running water and a little heater for those emergency needs in the middle of the night, 2nd door the most gorgeous steemy hot shower and finally the 3rd door but by no means least a belfast sink with hot water and a drainer for washing up.
we also had a very informative and interesting tour around the farm, which was a lovely walk as well as meeting all the farms animals.

Directions

We are relatively easy to find despite our rural location. If you use a satnav, it will get you into our road and once you are there you need to find our concrete driveway with our farm sign for Rhydycynydd. If you use a map, the directions are as follows:

From the south
Follow the M4 to Pont Abraham then continue on the A48 until Carmarthen. At Carmarthen, take the A485 heading toward Lampeter. After travelling through Alltwallis, take the B4459 toward Pencader. Once through Pencader, remain on B4459 travelling through Llanfiangel – ar-arth and then on to Capel Dewi. Continue right through Capel Dewi and take the first right turning (on a bend) after passing the end of the 30mph restrictions. Continue up the hill passing through an avenue to beech trees. You will start to descend before travelling round a left hand bend. Rhydycynydd is now the next turning on your left. Having turned on to our drive, take the first track on the left to your pod.

From the east:
From Llandovery, take the A40 to Llanwrda and then take the right hand turn onto the A482 to Lampeter. Travel to Lampeter, and proceed straight through the town onto the A475 towards Newcastle Emlyn. Continue on the A475 through Llanwnen and Drefach. After travelling up a large hill you will come to the village of Cwmsychbant. Turn left in Cwmsychbant in between the telephone box and the post box heading for Brynteg. Continue on this road until you come to a crossroads with another telephone box and turn right. Continue down hill passing over a stream. As you start to travel uphill you will pass a white cottage. Rhydycynydd is the next run on the right. Having turned on to our drive, take the first track on the left to your pod.

From the north:
From Aberystwyth take the A487 south all the way to Synod Inn. At Synod Inn, turn left and immediately left onto the B4338 signposted to Llanybydder. Proceed through Talgarreg and Bwlchyfacdfa and onto Pontsian. In Pontsian, turn left opposite the shop towards Rhydowen. In Rhydowen, go straight ahead at the crossroads towards Capel Dewi. After leaving Rhydowen take the next council road on the left (approx ½ mile from Rhydowen). Continue up the hill passing through an avenue of beech trees. You will start to descend before travelling round a left hand bend. Rhydycynydd is now the next turning on your left. Having turned on to our drive, take the first track on the left to your pod.

From the west:
From Newcastle Emlyn, take the A475 East travelling through Llandyfroig, Aberbanc, Penrhiwllan and onto Horeb. In Hored proceed straight over the staggered cross roads (right then left) remaining on the A475. You will pass trough Prengwyn before coming into Rhydowen. In Rhydowen, turn right opposite Alltrodyn Antiques.

Public transport
Due to our rural location, public transport is limited. However, good bus services run to Lampeter and we are happy to collect guests by arrangement for a small fee. The nearest train station is Carmarthen and then a bus to Lampeter. Please phone if you require assistance with public transport arrangement to and from our site.

Local attractions

The farm is in a stunning part of west Wales with many activities and attractions to enjoy during your stay:

Beaches and the coast – west Wales has some of the most beautiful coastline with many Blue Flag beaches nearby: try Llangranog, Penbryn, or Mwnt for stunning beaches with facilities for families such as cafés/shops and toilets. If you fancy a harbour town, then try characterful Aberaeron with a lovely harbour and good eateries and shops.

Local visitor attractions – this area of Wales is full of places of historic interest. In the next village, visit the Rock Woollen Mill to see the Welsh textile industry of yesteryear but still working today. For country houses, try Llanerchaeron near Aberaeron, a beautiful National Trust mansion with two walled gardens and parkland trails. In Pumsaint near Lampeter, the Dolaucothi Gold Mines are an interesting day out. If you like steam railways, then the Gwili Railway is near Carmarthen or the Teifi Valley Railway is in Henllan, near Newcastle Emlyn.

Gardens – west Wales has two of Wales’ most notable gardens: Aberglasney and the National Botanic Garden of Wales both of which are about 45 minutes away. Closer to site, try smaller gardens such as Cae Hir in Cribyn or Norwood Gardens in Llanllwni. There are also many local gardens open through the National Garden Scheme throughout the summer.

Local art and crafts – in the local area, there are many artists and craftsmen/women who display their work at their studio own or in galleries. The Maker’s Mark in Newcastle Emlyn is a good place to start as it is a gallery for many local artists.

Children’s attractions – if you are looking for something to do with children on a dry or wet day then Folly Farm near Kilgetty, Pembrokeshire, is an ideal day out. It is about one hour's drive away but is well worth the trip. They have animals to pet and feed (farm and zoo animals), a huge sand pit with diggers, several adventure playgrounds indoor and outdoor, an indoor vintage fairground, daily stage show and lots more.

Outdoor activities – if you enjoy outdoor activities, then west Wales is an ideal playground. Below is a list of activities available locally:

- Canoeing: the River Teifi is renowned for great canoeing whether you are a beginner or a professional. The Paddlers in Llandysul is a good centre for all types of canoeing whatever ability – they offer river canoeing and sea kayaking.

- Walking: for walkers, there are many local paths as well as the coastal path. If you fancy some more challenging walking then the Cambrians or the Beacons are a bit further away but not too far for a day's walking. The farm owners can supply you with some information on local walks if you are interested – please ask on arrival.

- Cycling: for off road cycling, Brechfa Forest is a great location whatever your ability with many different trails and tracks. Brechfa has black, blue and red runs. The farm is also situated very close to cycle route 82 which runs from Aberystwyth to Fishguard via a scenic route using mostly road but also cycle track in sections. Also there are several good cycle routes on local disused railways which are great for easy riding with children (Aberaeron to Llanercheaeron and Aberystwyth to Tregaron).

- Fishing: The Teifi Valley is a renowned area for fishing. See the Llandysul Anglers Association website for details of fishing on the Teifi. The River Towy is also not too far away and also gives excellent fishing. Lake fishing is also available locally as well as sea fishing off of the west Wales Coast.

Market towns – this area of Wales has many small historic market towns with many shops and other facilities. The farm is only ten minutes from Lampeter and Llandysul and 20 minutes from Newcastle Emlyn and Aberaeron. Each have supermarkets as well as many small independent shops, cafés, pubs, take-aways and restaurants. Each of these market towns also have leisure centres and sport facilities.
