General

  • Family-run farm in a wildlife haven
  • Half a mile from Devil's Bridge Falls
  • Peaceful garden and a site shop

What a busy time can be had in the gorge little corner of Ceredigion which houses Erwbarfe Farm Caravan Park – it’s bursting with attractions in all directions, including the famed waterfalls of Devil’s Bridge Falls half a mile away, the stupendous coastline of Cardigan Bay within 12 miles, and the upland wilderness of the Cambrian Mountains and their top peak Plynlimon.

Then there’s the fishing, horse riding, red kite spotting, mountain biking and mining history to plunge into too – it’s not surprising that guests have been returning to this family-run farm for over 40 years…

As might be expected among all this Welsh wonder, the views and facilities of Erwbarfe Farm will make hearts leap too… pitch up here for scenic sights in all directions, loads of room ready for play, and a peaceful park garden for picnics and nodding dreamily over a novel.

Amenities are well-kept and include two toilet blocks (one with loos and the other with loos and showers), a launderette and water taps flowing fresh Welsh mountain water sourced above the farm.

Source groceries, ice cream, Calor gas and other essentials in the site shop; other bits and bobs for sale as well as a bistro with takeaway are within a mile, and there are plenty of local pubs serving food (the park noticeboard has info on and menus of local eateries). A rich selection of restaurants is at Aberystwyth 20 minutes’ drive away – or land your own catch with a sea fishing trip along the coast.

With the walks all around, Erwbarfe Farm Caravan Park does accept dogs, but please keep them on leads while on site.

Please note

Dogs are not allowed in the accommodation units.

No groups of 6 or more people under the age of 21.

Lovely site with fabulous views over the valleys and hills. Good clean facilities, small shop and children's play area.

    Disliked:

Felt that the tourers were a bit close together. Limited places to exercise dogs due to sheep and campers in the field.

From the manager...

Sorry that you felt that, July is a busy time for us on a small park. We hope to see you again though in the future.

we arrived on site at 1.00pm on Friday 23 June in the poring rain. I walked to reception witch was closed with no lights on, I rang the bell no answer waited and rang again still no answer, so I phoned both the mobile and landline numbers had no answer I was not even able to leave a message. We waited at the site for over half an hour, still nobody turned up. I then searched the internet on my phone and found another local site and we went there, as we did not want to waste hours not knowing if anybody would turn up after having had a long drive. I am glad that we only paid a deposit and not the full amount.

From the manager...

I am really sorry we weren't around for your arrival. Although we try and make sure either myself or my husband are always on park there are occasions where both of us aren't there. Unfortunately as we are a small park we are unable to employ a full time receptionist - we run everything ourselves! Apologies again though to you both.

Everything this was our 4th time here, we have 5 children ages ranging from 2-13 and this site is great for all of them. Toilet and shower block is always clean and tidy, wash facilities are spotless and our children love the play area and especially the football pitch. The owners are so friendly and always around if you need anything, and great entertainers. We will keep returning to you guys as we love it there, can't wait for our next trip ⛺️⛺️⛺️⛺️

The family owners were fantastically welcoming. Our two boys (13 and 10) had a great time playing on their bikes and playing football with the owners' boys of a similar age.
The facilities were extremely clean and tidy and kept that way all day.
The pitch we had was level and we had plenty of space. The view is tremendous of the valley below.
Play equipment really good, and a separate area with goal posts for footie.
    Overall, brilliant.

From the Midlands, leave the A44 after passing Dyffryn Castell Hotel taking the B4343 and A4120 towards Devil's Bridge. Erwbarfe Farm Caravan Park is on the right-hand side, half way between Ponterwyd and Devil's Bridge on the A4120.

Local attractions

Fisherfolk from all over the country use Erwbarfe Farm as a base for some of the best casting off in Ceredigion and west Wales: the nearby Rheidol and Ystwyth rivers yield salmon and trout, while rainbow and brown trout can be landed in the local lakes.

If you’ve never dabbled in the art, ask the farm staff for a meet with their almost-resident fishing instructor David, who can give fly fishing lessons and advice on site, and/or pick up a free copy of the site’s Angling in the Heart of Pumlumon booklet in reception.

The reception information point on site has brochures and leaflets on all the other things to see and do locally: we’d have to type rapid-ly to list them all, but have to recommend first the fab falls of Devil’s Bridge, where visitors including Will Wordsworth have flowed to for many a year.

The 45-minute nature trail walk here passes the waterfalls through a wooded gorge in a Site of Special Scientific Interest and ends at a free telescope viewer to peer at the Gyfarllwyd Falls on the River Rheidol. (There’s a shorter ten-minute trail too, down to the river flowing upstream from the waterfalls).

Lucky devils might see a red kite or two from the nature trail’s telescope, but if not, guarantee a sighting at the Bwlch Nant yr Arian visitor centre in the Cambrian mountains and the spectacular sight of up to 150 kites flocking to daily feeding time all year round.

Bikes as well as birds are the highlight at this award-winning forest centre, with three trails for mountain biking making for a wonderful Welsh brake (bike hire is available if you haven’t brought your own).

Hill hiking is here too: the four walking trails at Bwlch Nant yr Arian include a Miners’ Trail along the leat that used to carry water to the valley lead mines below. But if you’d like to dig into Welsh mining history in style, travel two miles from Erwbarfe Farm to the Llywernog Silver-Lead Mine Museum for a guided tour. There be a dragon’s tail/tale also (Smaug?).

Numerous beaches including New Quay, Borth and Ynys Las (plus dunes) are within easy driving distance of Erwbarfe Farm, as is stunning Cardigan Bay 12 miles away and its award-winning beaches, walks on the Ceredigion Coast Path, smuggling the family into caves, and – with luck – spying the UK’s biggest pod of dolphins.

Must see

  • Vale of Rheidol Railway (Aberystwyth) (10.3 miles)
  • MOMA Wales - Y Tabernacl (14.0 miles)
