General

  • Family-run farm in a wildlife haven
  • Half a mile from Devil's Bridge Falls
  • Peaceful garden and a site shop

What a busy time can be had in the gorge little corner of Ceredigion which houses Erwbarfe Farm Caravan Park – it’s bursting with attractions in all directions, including the famed waterfalls of Devil’s Bridge Falls half a mile away, the stupendous coastline of Cardigan Bay within 12 miles, and the upland wilderness of the Cambrian Mountains and their top peak Plynlimon.

Then there’s the fishing, horse riding, red kite spotting, mountain biking and mining history to plunge into too – it’s not surprising that guests have been returning to this family-run farm for over 40 years…

As might be expected among all this Welsh wonder, the views and facilities of Erwbarfe Farm will make hearts leap too… pitch up here for scenic sights in all directions, loads of room ready for play, and a peaceful park garden for picnics and nodding dreamily over a novel.

Amenities are well-kept and include two toilet blocks (one with loos and the other with loos and showers), a launderette and water taps flowing fresh Welsh mountain water sourced above the farm.

Source groceries, ice cream, Calor gas and other essentials in the site shop; other bits and bobs for sale as well as a bistro with takeaway are within a mile, and there are plenty of local pubs serving food (the park noticeboard has info on and menus of local eateries). A rich selection of restaurants is at Aberystwyth 20 minutes’ drive away – or land your own catch with a sea fishing trip along the coast.

With the walks all around, Erwbarfe Farm Caravan Park does accept dogs, but please keep them on leads while on site.

Please note

Dogs are not allowed in the accommodation units.

No groups of 6 or more people under the age of 21.

Excellent facilities. Friendly service. Beautiful setting. Very family-friendly. Some great places to visit within half hour drive (Aberystwyth, Borth, Devils bridge). Shop, garage and pub/restaurant within 5 min drive.

    Disliked:

Limited dog-walking options nearby (as far as we could tell). Our pitch was a good size but close to a busy road and on a slight slope.

We've just returned from a fabulous 6 nights at Ewrbarfe Farm. This is a brilliant, family-friendly campsite with fantastic views. Our 2 young children had an amazing time playing with the other children on site and the owners' lovely boys. It was everything that camping should be!

There's a play area for the kids and a large green open space for them to run around. The site is peaceful, well maintained and the facilities are first class! There's a new, modern shower block that was always very clean and toasty warm. We were particularly impressed with the family shower room that made showering our grubby munchkins so much simpler! The site has a handy little shop and there's wifi available in the vicinity of the farmhouse.

The site is well located near Devil's Bridge and we were able to have some great family days out. We honestly cannot recommend this site enough. Thank you for a lovely holiday - we'll be back next year! :)

This is a great family run site with the owners taking pride with the whole site and you get a friendly welcome as well. Loved the location for going to see the red kites being fed and if you feel up to it doing the walk around devils bridge. Used the new showers on site and also the washing machine and dryer as well (small charge for the washing machine and dryer). All pitches kept clean and tidy. Also has a couple of swings and a big slide which was enough for my kids, also it was nice to let my kids go off and play as this is a very safe site and from our pitch we could see the play area which was great.
Small shop selling milk and other items you might need. Next time booking we will be booking the wigwam as this looked great and the views on site are amazing.

The friendly owners, who gave us lots of walking brochures.
Great shower facilities which were kept clean, tidy and warm, and laundry facilities available as well. All greatly appreciated when the weather isn't cooperating!
There's a small shop on site for basic necessities.
The location - just minutes from Devil's Bridge and about 30 mins from Aberystwyth.

    Disliked:

Just to note to other campers that the reception is not manned all the time, so if you're coming at an odd hour it might be a good idea to phone ahead :) (In our case the owner's son was very helpful in notifying his parents that we were at reception.)

From the manager...

Thank you so much for leaving a review and for your great comments! Yes, we're a family run park with just myself, my husband and our two boys running the place and pretty much doing everything! At times, I am down at the toilet block cleaning or on park chatting with customers (!), our boys are now of an age where they can pitch in and help which is great! Hope to see you again in the future.

Directions

From the Midlands, leave the A44 after passing Dyffryn Castell Hotel taking the B4343 and A4120 towards Devil's Bridge. Erwbarfe Farm Caravan Park is on the right-hand side, half way between Ponterwyd and Devil's Bridge on the A4120.

Local attractions

Fisherfolk from all over the country use Erwbarfe Farm as a base for some of the best casting off in Ceredigion and west Wales: the nearby Rheidol and Ystwyth rivers yield salmon and trout, while rainbow and brown trout can be landed in the local lakes.

If you’ve never dabbled in the art, ask the farm staff for a meet with their almost-resident fishing instructor David, who can give fly fishing lessons and advice on site, and/or pick up a free copy of the site’s Angling in the Heart of Pumlumon booklet in reception.

The reception information point on site has brochures and leaflets on all the other things to see and do locally: we’d have to type rapid-ly to list them all, but have to recommend first the fab falls of Devil’s Bridge, where visitors including Will Wordsworth have flowed to for many a year.

The 45-minute nature trail walk here passes the waterfalls through a wooded gorge in a Site of Special Scientific Interest and ends at a free telescope viewer to peer at the Gyfarllwyd Falls on the River Rheidol. (There’s a shorter ten-minute trail too, down to the river flowing upstream from the waterfalls).

Lucky devils might see a red kite or two from the nature trail’s telescope, but if not, guarantee a sighting at the Bwlch Nant yr Arian visitor centre in the Cambrian mountains and the spectacular sight of up to 150 kites flocking to daily feeding time all year round.

Bikes as well as birds are the highlight at this award-winning forest centre, with three trails for mountain biking making for a wonderful Welsh brake (bike hire is available if you haven’t brought your own).

Hill hiking is here too: the four walking trails at Bwlch Nant yr Arian include a Miners’ Trail along the leat that used to carry water to the valley lead mines below. But if you’d like to dig into Welsh mining history in style, travel two miles from Erwbarfe Farm to the Llywernog Silver-Lead Mine Museum for a guided tour. There be a dragon’s tail/tale also (Smaug?).

Numerous beaches including New Quay, Borth and Ynys Las (plus dunes) are within easy driving distance of Erwbarfe Farm, as is stunning Cardigan Bay 12 miles away and its award-winning beaches, walks on the Ceredigion Coast Path, smuggling the family into caves, and – with luck – spying the UK’s biggest pod of dolphins.
