The Old Post Office Eco Camping

9.8

General

  • Adults-only site 10 minutes from Pencader in the Teifi valley
  • Riding centre, mountain bike trails and kayaking within 15 minutes
  • Quiet, eco-friendly site with free-range eggs and a veg patch

Peace, proper peace… how fab. The Old Post Office Eco Camping, 10 minutes’ drive from Pencader, is a quiet rural site that’s all set up for souls seeking a bit of serenity.

Noisy distractions are kept to a minimum here: no kids, no TVs and no radios are allowed on site, and limited mobile phone reception means you should remain refreshingly free from dinging gadgets. There is, however, a bit of clucking: that's from the ex-battery hens that generously provide eggs to be delivered for your brekkie if you let the site owners know you fancy it; in return, put a coin or two in the contributions box when picking veg and herbs from the gardens and polytunnel – it all goes towards buying their treats.

As you'll have spied from the name, greener living is important here: guests are requested not to bring chemicals on site and instead to use the eco-friendly cleaning products and bamboo loo roll provided. And that’s not all that’s provided: a selection of games, books and maps is to hand, and there’s a collection of bits of camping kit lest you find you’ve forgotten something vital.

For eats, you're welcome to light up a barbie or firepit, and there are a couple of pubs serving top-notch food a mile and a half away.

Fabulous site for a relaxing eco-friendly retreat with good facilities31/08/2021

Karen and Rikki were fantastic hosts and very accommodating. They showed us round their beautiful eco-friendly site and let us pick where we wanted to pitch. There was lots of space and beautiful views, providing a quite and relaxing retreat. The veg patch was fantastic and we enjoyed picking our own fresh vegetables/salad to accompany our bbq (very sticky, tasty corn on the cob). Rikki was happy to help us find the vegetables we required. The bathroom facilities were lovely and clean; the shower hot and powerful. We were a bit dubious about it being an eco toilet but it was hygienic, easy to use and didn’t smell at all. There was also a room of bits you may have forgotten or require, e.g games, pumps, wood, citronella candles, etc. They provided an electric kettle in the washing up station, which was useful when you just wanted a quick cuppa without the hassle of using your camping kitchen. The fire pits were great and Rikki came to set it up on bricks/slab near your tent; you could buy wood, kindling, etc for a reasonable price. As the site was so quiet and all shut down by 9pm we could lie out on the rug and see the stars really clearly. We had breakfast two of the days, it was lovely to sit at the bench in the veg patch to enjoy it in the morning sun. They were happy to accommodate a range of hot drinks and change a couple bits, e.g hash browns for fried bread, and provided a very delicious black pudding.
Karen very much loved her rescue chickens and it was nice to see they clearly enjoy what they do with the campsite and her girls.

We had a fab stay for two nights. Karen and Rikki run a wonderful eco campsite - with a good focus on the environment. Nice size campsite (only 4 tents in total) in the Welsh countryside - which provided plenty of peace and quiet. Great additions including options for breakfast in the morning (it is very good) and access to their vegetable patch (we had fresh corn roasted on the fire). We even met the rescue chickens. We'll definitely be back and would recommend to others.

Wonderful site in idyllic valley. So quiet but so well equipped.
My hosts Karen and Rikki are awesome! Such a generous lovely welcoming couple nothing is too much trouble for them.
You must have the full cooked breakfast. Veggie or Carne. brought to your tent when you want it. Delivered in style, piping hot with your choice of beverage. A smashing touch.
There is a ready supply of fruit and veg to pick from and the facilities are spotlessly clean. The lavatory and shower are basic but wonderful. The shower was hot, strong and spacious. If you would like a fire pit and logs they’ve got a selection and if you’ve forgotten anything Karen and Rikki will have it or they’ll get it for you. They even took a hiking couple to the shops for supplies!
Can’t recommend the Old Post Office enough!
    Just pitch Perfect!

The weather and the proximity to others (20m away still felt too near)

From the manager...

Sadly, there is not much we can do about the weather, however we strive to make each and every one of our guest feel welcome. Thank you for your comments regarding our facilities, we pride ourselves on maintaining a site that protects the environment and the wildlife that resides here. We do feel that the space we offer our guests goes above and beyond the majority of campsites. Four pitches across two acres, with freedom to pitch where you choose. The guidelines for camping during Covid is a minimum of 10 meters. If you choose to pitch 20 meters away from the nearest tent, there is very little we can do about it.
Regards,
Karen and Rikki :-)

What an idyllic spot, a complete escape from the hustle and bustle of modern life! We spent a fabulous 4 days camping here, surrounded by amazing views, starry nights and space (we actually had our own field!). The site itself is immaculate and so well thought out. We loved the organic veg patch and picking our own salad leaves, not to mention the free range eggs. And the hosts Karen and Rikki were so welcoming and helpful, we couldn’t have asked for more. Thanks so much for a wonderful stay!
