General

  • Peaceful site on a 20-acre farm site five minutes' drive from Whitland
  • Folly Farm, Oakwood Theme Park and beaches within a half-hour drive
  • On the Pembrokeshire/Carmarthenshire border with easy access from A40

Strawhill Campsite is a peaceful site in the splendid Carmarthenshire countryside a couple of miles from the village of Whitland: just the right distance, say the owners, for a mix of fab rural views and easy access to the village’s pub, shops and takeaways (five minutes’ drive away).

The site is part of a farm that stretches out to just over 20 acres. It’s no longer a working farm though, so with no farm animals on site (other than two resident Border Collies), guests are welcome to wander around and take strolls on the wooded footpath that runs around the pitching field.

Those who fancy a longer walk can set off on a public footpath that runs past the farm down to the village; if that’s not long enough, you’ll also be not far from the Pembrokeshire Coast Path (which should satisfy most walkers’ appetites with its 186 miles…) Those who’ve brought the kids along might want to skip the lengthy hikes and instead aim for the beach or the many family attractions just over the border in Pembrokeshire (Folly Farm, Oakwood Theme Park and Manor Wildlife Park are all within a half-hour drive).

The farm’s owners had their eye on opening a campsite for many years, and were keen to make it a peaceful place for guests to enjoy some quality family time. With that in mind, they’ve made sure there’s plenty of space but kept the facilities down to just showers, toilets and a washing-up area. Barbecues are welcome, and there’s a firepit for each pitch to make building campfires easy.

Thank you for your review. It was lovely to have you stay with us. We agree our access road bore the brunt of the storms. We are considering alternative solutions for next year.

Lovely site in Welsh countryside24/08/2020

The camping is in a pretty, sheltered field, there's plenty of space between pitches. Nice clean compost loos (one per pitch)
Roy is an excellent host - very quick to respond to questions, friendly....and willing to tow our car out of the field after we drove off the gravel parking area (by mistake). Some people might have been a little grumpy about having to do that on a Sunday morning, but he was lovely about it. Thanks again Roy!

Stunning bell tent - all the comfort of home but the romance of canvas21/08/2020

Reviewer's country: United KingdomLaura S.Mobile phone iconConfirmed

What a fantastic experience! We stayed in Roy’s bell tent which came complete with double bed and bedding, single beds and bedding for the kids, plus complimentary Welsh cakes, flowers and toiletries. It was a truly luxurious experience - the tent is carpeted throughout and has a beautiful rug at the entrance.
Our stay coincided with some rather impressive storms, but the tent was rock solid, and it was lovely to listen to the sound of rain on canvas!
Roy has provided a fire pit (free logs if staying 3 nights or longer), a covered picnic bench and an eco toilet which were all solely for our use.
The field is sloped, so a pair of wellies is a must during inclement weather for getting to the tent and the facilities.
Showers and washing facilities are shared, but with very few other visitors at any one time this is not an issue. A converted shipping container houses two warm showers and two sinks for washing up and personal care requirements.
The eco toilet was a first for us, but very easy to use and not at all smelly!
Roy was very friendly, both while we were staying and before we arrived, sending a very useful and informative email that enabled us to fully prepare before our trip. He’s always around the site if needed, but is very unobtrusive if you’re looking for some peace and quiet from your camping experience.
If you like the idea of camping, but not the idea of erecting your own tent, Strawhill’s bell tent is the perfect solution.

Ray and his family are incredibly welcoming and have worked really hard to create a peaceful and well-planned, green campsite. Lots of space between a small number of pitches, each with their own fire pit, covered picnic bench and toilet. All excellently maintained and clean - thanks!
