General

  • Family park a short stroll from Lydstep beach
  • Free evening entertainment, with children welcome
  • A few miles from Heatherton World of Activities and the Manor House

There are some spectacular sands on the coast of west Wales. (And on the north and south coasts, but you can get to them on your next break.) Make for Whitewell Holiday Park Caravan and Camping to be in the sandy thick of things in the west: this family-run site is five minutes' walk from the nearest beach and five minutes' drive to the sea fishing and award-winning sands of Tenby. Sounds all White to us.

Whitewell's also close to fab family days out at the likes of Folly Farm, Heatherton World of Activities and Tenby's Dinosaur Park – if the kids aren't too tuckered out after a day at those, children are welcome at the lounge bar in the evenings to join in the entertainment: karaoke, disco, dancing, bingo and trivia evenings in July and August, as well as performances by Whitewell's resident singer Grace Ashton and others.

All entertainment is included in the pitch price, and the lounge bar also has two large widescreen TVs to catch up on the latest from the outside world.

The shower block, next to the bar and shop, has hot water, deep hot water basins and loos. The park also has a laundry room with storage, children's playground, games room with pool table and arcade games. Tourist information is available at the site shop.

For food, meals and takeaways are available from the bar to have there or to take to the tables, chairs and umbrellas of the patio for alfresco eats.

    - hairdryers didn’t work (had to have wet hair, wasn’t pleasant with the cold weather)
    - there was no hot water by the washing up station so we had to wash up sort cold water, we were the only tent there however if the campsite is open there should be hot water regardless of whether there is 1 tent or 100
    - bar wasn’t open at all even though it said it would be open at 7pm every evening

We travelled down late and the Manager made sure we were well looked after!

I was competing in Ironman Wales that's in and around Tenby and the team at Whitewell couldn't have been more accommodating. I'll certainly be recommending it to other Ironman and Long Course Weekend athletes!

    Thanks!

    Nearly everything.
The ‘clubhouse’ gave off an atmosphere that only regulars were welcome
The on site ‘mini shop’ was only 3/4 shelves and a fridge.
Was glad I was up in the tents where we made our own fun
Toilet had poo down one wall, was there for the 3 days.

Site was well located, toilet and shower blocks were clean and tidy and well maintained, Staff were friendly.

On our first night we visited the club house which was very small and cosy, luckily it wasn’t too busy when we went as we have small children that like to run around and could see that on busy nights this being difficult. It did give the impression that it had a really good atmosphere when walking past on the other nights. we took part in the quiz Which was well organised and current.

We also visited the arcade where my young children really enjoyed the 2p skittles game.

    Disliked:

Although we knew you had to pay for showers before we arrived we still feel that making your guests pay for showers when paying the same rate as most other sites is a bit cheaky.

The parks were both allocated by the club house and therefore not very accessible for camping family’s, allocating a space somewhere in the middle of camping area for a small climbing frame or park would be highly rated by a lot of families.

    Disliked:

Long distance to the facilities, expensive club house (minimum speand £10), owners like to ensure no parties are being had, but then when people are blasting music at 11 o clock at night they were too busy being in the club house!

Local attractions

There are some beaut beaches around these parts, with the closest, Lydstep, less than half a mile away from Whitewell Holiday Park. Jetskis and kayaks can be hired here if you want to take to the water, and a couple of golf courses – from many in the area – are nearby.

Tenby is a few minutes' drive away and worth at least a few days, on its North, South and Castle beaches, browsing around its shops, cafés and restaurants or taking a seal safari trip.

From Tenby harbour, one of the most popular things to do in the area is the boat trip to tiny Caldey Island, one of the Holy Islands of Britain and still with a Trappist monk population. Tenby harbour is also where anglers go to cast off; sea angling trips are easy to organise from Tenby too.

Little monsters should enjoy playing among the dinosaurs in the woods at Tenby's Dinosaur Park where there are plenty of other things going on, like rides, indoor and outdoor play, a games garden and a mile-long dinosaur trail.

Just outside Tenby, Heatherton World of Activities and the Anna Ryder Richardson's Manor House Wildlife Park opposite will keep everyone busy for another day or two among the animals, paintballing and go-karting.

After that, the animals and play of award-winning Folly Farm is about five miles from Tenby along the coast at Kilgetty.

Must see
