General

  • Private streamside pitches in a secluded Welsh valley
  • Close to the coast and Skomer Island
  • Barbecues and campfires allowed; breakfasts and dinners available

What a super little site is Slate Mill Lodge, in a secluded Welsh valley with plenty of privacy for pitching up.

Birdwatchers and nature fans – this Pembrokeshire coast park is for you, as it's near the birsdspotting haven of Skomer Island and within a short drive of the wildlife-laden coastal path to regard puffins, heaps of spring and summer wildflowers, and seals nursing their pups at the end of the summer season. (You'll see all sorts of other species soaring and roaming around the campsite too.)

Beach buffs – this is also a site for you: Slate Mill Lodge is within a mile as the crow flies of at least four peaceful and unspoilt Pembrokeshire beaches for plunging into/onto water: kaykaing, sailing, kitesurfing, diving and windsurfing are all easily accessible from the site. As is fishing, and we think this is the place to point out that Slate Mill Lodge allows campfires and barbecues.

The tent, tourer and motorhome pitches at Slate Mill are alongside its lodge, where guests can dig into the big breakfasts of a morn or dinner of an evening, all utilising homemade, fresh or free-range produce from the Slate Mill Lodge organic garden.

Pitches are along a stream and have plenty of privacy from other campers, and the amenities include a modern facilities block with separate male and female loos and showers, a washing-up area with hot water, charging facilities and use of fridges and freezers.

Excellent site good location great pitch shower block needs attention 24/07/2017

Reviewer's country: United Kingdom Chuck and Fiona E. Confirmed

  • Electric optional grass touring pitch
  • Recommend to friends   Visit again
  • Liked:

The setting was beautiful, wild and private - perfect! Table and chairs by pitch.
Slate Mill is in great position for the whole of southern pembrokeshire, very close to ferry to Skomer and convenient Dale, Littlehaven, Broadhaven. Fabulous coastal walking.

    Disliked:

The shower block wasn't cleaned regularly enough. The curtains in the gents shower needed attention; one was too short and the room flooded, the other curtain was hanging off the ceiling. In the womens block there were no hooks to hang towel and toilet bag etc and just one inside the shower.

Lovely secluded pitches close to beautiful beaches 19/07/2017

Reviewer's country: United Kingdom Stephanie J. Mobile phone icon Confirmed

  • Small non-electric grass tent pitch

  • Liked:

The non-electric pitches were in lovely and secluded and set in beautiful surroundings. Amazing beaches 10mins drive away. Supermarket at Milford Haven 20 mins drive away. Able to have campfires (though I'd advise you to bring your own logs as there were not that many close by to build a fire with). Facilities were clean. Communal charging point and fridge-freezer was really useful and I think we were the only ones using it as most other campers had electric hook ups.

    Disliked:

If someone else was using the shower at the same time the water went a bit Luke warm. But for me that's all part of the camping lifestyle!

Great campsite in the stunning landscape of Pembrokeshire. Suitable for ... 05/06/2017

Reviewer's country: United Kingdom Jake B. Confirmed

  • Small non-electric grass tent pitch

  • Liked:

Great campsite in the stunning landscape of Pembrokeshire. Suitable for groups of friends (personal experience), couples and families. Campfires are allowed making it a very traditional camping experience. Low levels of light pollution making the stars vivid. You have to be respectful with your noise levels yet the large hedges between pitches seem to dampen a lot of sound. Very clean toilets/shower facilities. There is a communal fridge/phone charging shed which is treated with respect. Not far from Haverfordwest.

    Disliked:

Floor around showers gets flooded due to cropped shower curtain. It is still clean yet clothes/belongings can get a little wet.

some improvements needed but staff so nice & v beautiful. 04/06/2017

Reviewer's country: United Kingdom Helen J. Mobile phone icon Confirmed

  • Electric optional grass touring pitch

Location, beautiful, quiet, showers and loos newly decorated. Charging point for phones, use of fridges and eggs for sale. The owner and his team were friendly. Site was laid out in such a way to give maximum privacy- so beautiful.

    Disliked:

Never enough hot water or toilet roll. Ladies showers flood and not really anywhere to keep your stuff dry. Prone to be wet under foot after rain. Nowhere to dispose of grey water and toilet waste if you are in a van. Very tight to move a van through lower field gate and hook up was only sufficient for one electrical item at a time.

Being asked to move because there was a bigger group than is arriving which they didn't know much about. Owner came back 30mins later saying we didn't have to when there shouldn't have been a problem in the first place

Nice quiet site, attractive, close to Dale 01/06/2017

Reviewer's country: United Kingdom Alex G. Mobile phone icon Confirmed

  • Non-electric grass tent pitch (large)

  • Liked:

Layout of the site with the standard tent pitches in individual spaces surrounded by hedges, rather than all in one large field. Pleasant walk into Dale at low tide, at high tide have go on the road all the way which is a bit of a slog

    Disliked:

Entrance to camping field is right on a blind bend, a mirror would really help to negotiate this.

What a fantastic site, we stayed for three days and enjoyed everything about it, even the weather was fab! As it was May we were the only campers and had the site to ourselves.
The site is small and the owner is very friendly, he could not do enough for us.
We had fresh eggs from his chickens, it felt as if we were part of the" good life" and we never needed our wellies. The area is fantastic if you love the countryside, you will love this site. Our two dogs were also made welcome.
Slate Mill we will be back. many thanks for a great experience.

Local attractions

Slate Mill Lodge is in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, the only fully coastal national park in Britain and crammed with cragged cliffs, sandy beaches and estuaries – all most excellent locales for coastal walks, swimming, surfing, fishing and other watery pursuits.

Make for Dale a couple of miles from the campsite for a heady introduction to Welsh watersports: the windsurfing and sailing centre here offers instruction in both as well as kayaking and powerboating for all levels, or boat charters and trips are available around the Dale and Marloes peninsulas to try deep sea fishing. Also take a boat out on a deep sea safari around Skomer, Skokholm and Grassholm islands for some of the best wildlife-spotting in the land.

If you're more into padding gently along sands, several are within a few miles of Slate Mill: isolated, quiet and spectacularly scenic Marloes Sands with first-class swimming and surfing; quiet Musselwick Sands with stunning views to St Davids; the sheltered bay of Dale, popular with families and yachters; and sandy Druidstone Haven, where you'll find not only rock pools but a waterfall.

And for walks, the 30-mile Broad Haven to Milford Haven stretch of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path is about 15 minutes' drive from Slate Mill Lodge: the team can arrange pick-ups, drop-offs or packed lunches as required.

  • Pembrokeshire Coast National Park (9.6 miles)
