  • Scenic site overlooking St Brides Bay
  • Working farm set in open countryside, with on-site farm shop
  • Coarse fishing lake within easy driving distance
Plenty of mighty pretty places are in Pembrokeshire. And one of the county's prettiest is St Brides Bay, the mouth of water and coast from Skomer to Ramsey islands – it's part of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path and has a few Sites of Special Scientific Interest thrown in to boot. Overlooking this pretty lot is Nolton Cross Caravan Park, a mile and a half inland from the hamlet of Nolton Haven, and set in open countryside as part of a working farm. The kids have plenty of space for ball games on site as well as a play area that's centrally situated to all areas so they can play safely and parents can have peace. A coarse fishing lake with views towards the Preseli Hills is about 500 metres from the park: perhaps unsurprisingly, this vista is mighty pretty too. Fancy some splendid food to go with your splendid views? Owners Emily and Simon run a farm shop on site inspired by the 'gate to plate' philosophy: that means home-reared beef along with other local produce with low food miles.

Electric optional hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: The location was great and the hard standing pitches and gravel pathways were brilliant, especially as it was quite wet weather when we stayed. The fresh eggs were delicious!

Disliked: There was only one shower working in the men’s facilities. The ladies showers were a little unclean, but otherwise fine, there was good water pressure and they were warm! A small off lead dog did run after us as we were walking with our dog one night and snarled and snapped at our dog. The next night, the same thing happened with the same off lead dog snapping at my partners ankles as he walked to the showers. This was disappointing but didn’t ruin the holiday. Possibly stricter lead conditions would be better for pets.

Liked: Lovely clean site, very peaceful with beautiful views and clean facilities. The only reason for 4 star not 5 is that it is a little far away from anywhere on foot, however it is within 15/ 20 minutes drive of some lovely towns and villages .

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked: Sea view, stunning! Playground was good. No litter by the tent pitches.

Disliked: No hot water in toilets by tents for hand washing. Showers were small and dirty. In both toilet blocks didn't flush properly. Set of toilets by tents had regular blockages, risk of over topping the toilets. Clear the system isn't sized for capacity or there is a downstream issue causing surcharge. Just having a number two caused it to surcharge. Wind turbine squeaking, cattle and donkey braying through the night prevented a good night's sleep. Also lots of flies from the cattle. Real shame as it could be a cracking site.

Local attractions

As already mentioned, St Brides Bay is mighty pretty – and both it and Pembrokeshire in general have a mighty bit to do too. The sandy beaches and watersports of Newgale, Broad Haven and Whitesands Bay are all within easy reach, as is the Pembrokeshire Coast Path (a coastal bus runs daily in summer for those who don't want to walk). Skomer, Ramsey and Caldey islands are a bit of a must if you're in this part of the world: reach Ramsey from St Davids, Caldey from Tenby, and Skomer from Dale and Martins Haven. Also nearby are St Davids Cathedral and the Bishops Palace, Oakwood Leisure Park, Folly Farm and the country parks of Llysyfran and Scolton Manor. Horse riding, surfing and fishing are all available within three miles.
