General

  • Flat grass site with spectacular views of St Brides Bay
  • Within walking distance of St Davids and the Pembrokeshire Coast Path
  • Free hot showers, loos, ice pack freezer and chemical disposal

Your car may possibly want a nice rest after a drive to Pembrokeshire. Which is why there aren’t many Mor prime Pembrokeshire locales than Glan-Y-Mor Camp Site: the Pembrokeshire Coast Path and the teenily enticing city of St Davids are within walking distance and it’s a simple saunter to the nearest beach, cutely compact Caerfai.

Going further afield? There are regular local bus services to the many other beaches in the area, for surfing, sunbathing or snapping the coastal views.

Glan-Y-Mor is on two and a half acres of flat grass among the grounds of former guesthouse and nineteenth century house Glan-Y-Mor (rumour has it that the house was once a haunt for smugglers peddling their nefarious wares). These days, it’s a peaceful place to use as a base for touring around St Davids Peninsula via any way that takes your fancy: stick to walking, hail down a bus or hire a bike on site for a coast path cycle.

The roomy pitches all have rather stunning views of St Brides Bay to the south and include access to free hot showers, loos, a washing-up area, chemical loo disposal and an ice pack freezer.

Supplies and essentials are plentiful locally, even on foot: an organic farm shop selling milk, cheese, bread, bacon and warm morning croissants is about half a mile down the road, and St Davids has a first-class food and wine deli selling fresh local produce and made to order rolls and baguettes. Your car will thank you for the rest…

Close proximity to the coastal path

    Disliked:

An aggressive Rottweiler and noisy owners for 1 week of our stay that turned out to be the only week even though we booked for 2 weeks. The weather was horrendous with severe gales and rain for some of the week. I was surprised that not one member of staff came around to check that we were alright particularly due to the weather conditions. We met the owner of the caravan park further down the road whilst he was going to check that all his guests were okay. The toilets and shower block were dismal and I didn't use them opting instead to use my own.

Steer well clear, nasty camp site. 17/08/2017

    Not a lot at all!!!!

    Disliked:

    Everything!!!!
Toilet and shower block is basically a dilapidated shed, filthy and completely covered with cobwebs and huge showers. My girls couldn't even stand to shower in there.
The site is so basic, there is nothing to do. Very small pitches and not enough room.
The guy that runs it was not present at the entrance when we arrived and so we called and called on the phone, no answer... we'd driven for 5 hours and there was nobody to greet us. When a lady finally rocked up and showed us to our pitch she said we could choose between two adjacent pitches, we did and put up our tent. Later the guy came along and told us that it would be better if we'd put it up facing the other way due to Wales's notorious bad weather... it was a little late by then and it is no mean feat to take down and re-erect a tent as big as ours.
The guy was ridiculously interfering and it seemed he wanted to micro-manage every aspect of everyone's camping experience... we are seasoned campers who know what we are doing and we definitely do not require this interference. Camping should be a laid back experience. This was anything but.
I also witnessed this same guy shining his torch around somebody's tent late at night, invasion of privacy or what?!!!
We left 4 nights early, we couldn't stand it any more. We definitely would not come back!! Steer clear!! So many better options out there!!

A lovely cabin in a fantastic location. I would love to come back! 12/08/2017

Reviewer's country: United Kingdom Miren J. Confirmed

  • 1 bedroom cabin

  • Liked:

The location of this campsite is fantastic - it's walking distance from a beautiful beach, the Pembrokeshire coastal path and St Davids, as well as regular buses to other beaches and places of interest.

The log cabin we stayed in was lovely and very nicely furnished. It was a bit chilly at night, but the duvet provided was nice and warm and the fairy lights made it seem very cosy. The cabin is very close to the toilets, showers and washing up sinks, which are basic but very clean. The campsite itself is pleasant too - nice and quiet in the evenings, friendly in the day.

    Disliked:

The cabin had everything we needed apart from perhaps a cloth to wash the dishes, a chopping knife and a bread knife. Otherwise, it was great!

Local attractions

This compact little area has quite a bit to see and do, with many more attractions, activities and good restaurants within a short bus ride or drive.

Stop off at the city of St Davids first to see its twelfth century cathedral, a popular place of pilgrimage in the Middle Ages (canny Pope Callixtus II decreed that two pilgrimages to St Davids = one pilgrimage to Rome, leading to the devout descending on it from all over. Clever).

Like all the best cathedrals, you won’t see St Davids until it’s practically in front of you once you walk through the gatehouse: have the camera at the ready. The ruins of the fourteenth century Bishops Palace are next door for more snaps and there’s a café for a pitstop.

Waterwise around the peninsula, you’ve picked the right place in Pembrokeshire to learn or show off in the surf: St Davids has a surf school and nearby Whitesands is the top pick for Pembrokeshire surfers.

The mile-long stretch at Whitesands is probably the most popular beach in the area for families too, especially in summer: take the bus here if you can as the car park fills up very early in prime season. Whitesands has a surf school too as well as good access for boat launches, surf and deckchair hire, but no dogs are allowed from May to September.

The Oriel y Parc Gallery and Visitor Centre is in St Davids’s The Grove to find out more about the history of St Davids and what to see and do in the surrounding area.

There are several fairly easy walks around, such as the circular walk from the visitor centre down to Carfai Bay and onto the Pembrokeshire Coast Path to Whitesands Bay or St Justinians. Whichever your landscape preference – limestone cliffs, sandstone bays or volcanic headlands – you’ll find a coastal walk around here, with a seaside town or village café, market or pub to refuel at along the way.

Nature spotters can take an offshore islands boat trip from St Davids Peninsula around Ramsey and Grassholm Islands to see porpoises, dolphins and occasionally whales in the water, and seabirds teeming all around.

Ramsey has cliffs up to 120 metres high and Grassholm is the third most important gannet breeding area in the country with 39,000 pairs of birds ducking about – we bet that’s a bit noisy in spring…

Speaking of noisy chicks, if you have the youngsters with you they’ll probably appreciate a day trip to one of Pembrokeshire’s leisure parks: award-winning Folly Farm, voted best family day out in Wales; Oakwood Theme Park at Narberth and paintball, karting and high ropes at adventure centre Heatherton in Tenby.
