  • Three acres of green space close to sandy beaches
  • Spotless amenities in a newly added block
  • Friendly and peaceful atmosphere

Have yourself a little holiday in Haverfordwest where you can (literally) lose yourself in the three spacious acres of green expanse at Dunston Hill Caravan and Camping Park. If you’re pining for a pry around Pembrokeshire, then you’re in luck, as the park not only has beaches close by but also a handy nine further acres in its surrounds. You just need to decide where to start...

The friendly owners at this family-run site have crafted a clean, well-laid out and quiet with traditional dry-stack stone walls around the camping fields... all you need do is kick back on one of the picnic benches and take in the peace, privacy and ease of your surroundings.

Spick and span ladies’ and gents’ loo and hot-shower facilities await in the new amenities block, and drinking water is available on site too. A games room at Dunston Hill will keep the kids in check and dogs are also welcome on site.

We stayed at this site as it was not far from another family member that was on holiday.

    Disliked:

The site was OK a lot of the caravans on this site are permanently left on the pitches with the awnings they could all do with a good wash as it makes the site look ruff the toilets are not great they were being cleaned but not to a great standard to keep pushing the shower button to keep the water flowing is a pain the rubbish was overflowing which was disgusting there was a field for dogs bit ruff but we saw a few people that didn't pick up there dog mess should be signs telling people to pick it up and a bin for it the site could do with a good make over level out the pitches upgrade the toilet facilities would not stay here again.

Good location but site is a bit run down and messy. 04/09/2016

Excellent location for touring Pembrokeshire. Owner was very helpful when we saw him. Prices are very competitive. There is a large field for walking the dogs.

    Disliked:

Our pitch was strewn with litter from previous campers. The site is a bit run down and the ground is uneven and in fairly poor condition although it is the end of the season.
The showers vary in temperature and strength and it would be a real benefit to have a mop and bucket available to clean up after you. One toilet in the gents had a broken seat and the other was blocked.
There is not a lot to do on the site which wasn't a problem for us as we were out and about.
Although there are signs in the dog walking area to pick up after you many people are not which is not the site owners fault but not good if you have small children.

Simple campsite, not very flat. Has all you need for basic camping. 01/09/2016

Nice grass pitches. Very family friendly. Dog friendly. Has all the basics you could need for a simple camping trip, eg. toilets, shower, water, electric and waste water disposal. There was no WIFI but the phone signal was good. Price was good considering it was a bank holiday weekend in the summer holidays.

    Disliked:

The cleanliness of the showers/ toilet blocks wasn't great. Due to having white tiles and the dirt paths, the floor was always filthy. The showers themselves were poor. They are push button showers so the temperature cant be changed, also, you have to keep your hand on the button the whole time as they turn off less than 5 seconds after you let go, the worst was immediately after. The campsite was completely chocka (which is fair enough considering the time of year) but the space between each pitch seemed very limited, especially with the amount of cars parked with some of the tents/ caravans. Unfortunately, I don't think we would stay here again.

Clean facilities, friendly staff, quiet area, but close to everywhere 26/08/2016

  • Liked:

Clean facilities - toilets were cleaned often and dishaswashing area well maintained
Friendly staff - even towed me out when I got stuck in the mud
Quiet area - no road noise, meaning you can actually enjoy a lie in
Close to everywhere - less than 10 minute drive to Haverfordwest for shopping or Newgale beach for relaxing on the beach
    Certainly would return here

    Disliked:

Lack of roads on bottom half of site, meant that during the wet weather it did get slippery underfoot and likely to get your car stuck
Although extremely clean, there are only two sinks for dishwashing so sometimes means a queue at busy times
Games room requires a bit of attention, some of the machines out of order and all the tips missing off the pool cues

Local attractions

Feel peachy as you peek around the former county town of Pembroke, about half an hour south from Dunston Hill. A Norman settlement that’s anything but normal - it was the birthplace of King Henry VII and has a mighty castle overlooking both the town, where you’ll be spoilt with the choice of restaurants, shops, pubs and cafés, and the surrounding conservation area, including Mill Pond, which is teeming with chances to spot kingfisher and otters.

Architecture admirers can take to the ruins of Monkton’s Benedictine Priory (just a stroll along the pond) and the town’s historic churches and Georgian and Tudor buildings, with camera in hand to poke about the interesting nooks and crannies. You can also muse on the museums amassed in these learned parts - vintage car enthusiasts will be driven wild with excitement at the Motor Museum in Keeston (only one mile north).

Skomer, Ramsey, Caldey...the islands off the Pembrokeshire coast are pretty and plentiful. Visitors of any inclination, from adrenaline-fuelled aquatic types to those who prefer to calmly cruise a coastline, can hop aboard traditional boats for exploring the islands’ bays and landing trips, or hold on tight for a high-speed ride around the open waters (maybe just hold off on the full English that morning…).

Either option will show twitchers the delights of guillemots, gannets and razorbills, as well as some scenery to take your breath away - which reminds us, the puffins shouldn’t be missed either. Look out for the grey seals and harbour porpoises in the water too.

With more than 50 beaches along the coastline, there’s no excuse not to pull on a wetsuit and jump feet first into the watersports on offer in Pembrokeshire. St Bride’s Bay is just to the west of Dunston Hill and the beaches of Newgale Sands, Broadhaven and Little Haven are a little less than five miles from the site.

While sandcastle building takes a back seat, kayaking, sailing, windsurfing and diving are available in selected areas, as is fishing for those of a more ‘sit back and wait’ disposition (and with the tepid temperatures of the Gulf Stream passing through Pembrokeshire, we can hardly blame you).

Go and kart the kids off to Heatherton World of Activities near Tenby (just over 20 miles away) for all-year-round fun and games including a maize maze, archery, robot wars, and a driving range.

Can’t think of anything more to tire the boisterous kidlings? We can... Canaston Bridge in Narbeth (around 20 minutes by car) is home to Oakwood Theme Park where you’ll find Vertigo and Megaphobia: no, not ailments you’ll come away with, but thrill-seeking rides which explain why Oakwood is one of the top ten theme parks in the country.
