General

  • Relaxed back-to-nature park with stunning Pembrokeshire coast views
  • Less than a mile from Abereiddy Beach and the Blue Lagoon
  • Campfires and dogs allowed

A laidback atmosphere, back-to-nature family camping and easy proximity to the best of Pembrokeshire await at friendly Coastal Stay, a small park tucked away enough to be very peaceful, but only a few miles from the shops, restaurants and sights of St Davids.

The owners point out that this isn't a hi-tech site, so if that's your thing you might prefer elsewhere, but if you want to build dens with the kids or teach them how to forage blackberries, you should find things very suitable here. It's heavenly stargazing land too, perfect for watching the skies around a campfire after watching the sun set into the sea at Abereiddy...

You should find the views very suitable too, spectacularly stretching out over the north Pembrokeshire Coast National Park in a National Trust conservation area…. And the location, less than a mile from Abereiddy Beach and the Blue Lagoon, and a mile from the fishing village of Porthgain with award-winning Shed Bistro and family pub the Sloop Inn (sit outside at the Sloop for harbour views or turn up on a summer evening for its frequent entertainment).

If you're here to hike, a frequent bus service stops right outside the site to and from St Davids, Fishguard and Haverfordwest to access the Pembrokeshire Coast Path. There are also plenty of local walks for all ages and abilities straight from the site and the Coastal Stay pitches overlook a natural valley leading to the sea for a highly scenic walk to Abereiddy Beach.

On site, the pitches are well spaced out and set around a natural spring-fed lake (please take care around the lake if you have younger children). Amenities include top-notch bathroom facilities with a double-size hot water power shower, toilet, wash basin and mirror, and a cold water tap and table outside for dishwashing.

Coastal Stay also has a café open in the morning for breakfast and late afternoon for cream teas (check the noticeboard at the park entrance for café opening times) and a herb garden for guests to use to add an extra kick to their campfire meals. Grocery and camping essentials like loo roll, milk, eggs, spare tent pegs and windbreakers are for sale on site.

Children and well-behaved dogs are most welcome – you'll find Coastal Stay's own dog, goat and pair of miniature horses on site as well – but please keep dogs under control and on leads to avoid disturbing other guests.

Please note

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Dogs are not allowed in the accommodation units.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Everything, we had an excellent time.
On arrival we had a few problems with the pitch, these were sorted out very quickly by Nic & Marilyn, who are very friendly and approachable.
The location is remote, quiet and scenic and the tent pitch was spacious with amazing sea views and the edition of the large outdoor table and fire pit was very helpful.
The facilities were always clean and inviting and the large indoor bathroom available is especially great for colder days.
We also loved having the animals around and seeing the goats wandering around when passing through to our pitch.
Our little dog had a great time as well!

    Disliked:

Nothing really. The only thing we would was is it may be difficult to pitch a tent or a windbreaker when the ground is considerably harder in warmer weather periods.

Good campsite with basic facilities, but meeting all out needs. Great idea to have tables made available for all campers with their pitches (lovely rustic chunky wood tables) and fire pits provided too. Water was constantly hot and facilities clean. Beautiful views to be had as well.

Dissappointed with approach to mobile phone charging and wifi 02/09/2017

Coastal views, nice walk along coastal path very nearby, toilets lovely sea theme which added to coastal vibe. Moved us to motorhome pitch as we needed car on site.

Approach to mobile phone charging and wifi
We booked this site as touring about and site listed both mobile charging and wifi as features at time of booking in August 2017. The mobile charge works via an honesty box which is not obvious at all with no clear signs despite signs selling wooden trinkets etc. It is also mostly switched off by the owners due to customers not paying and costing them extra electricity. We charged our phone via a socket as we arrived late and needed phones for the next day. They were removed from the sockets and we retrieved from the owner and were told about honesty box charging for mobiles so we paid to charge our phones as they were not charged. . At the end of the day we left our phones on to charge again ready to leave early then next day for our next part of the holiday (we left money in the honesty box) after a busy day along the beautiful nearby coastal walks. . The next morning we found the phones had been unplugged and the mains to the charging system had been turned off due to some problems with goats escaping in the pen beside. We were told that customers frequently abuse the honesty box scheme for charging so they basically keep it turned off and told me that we should use electric hook-up to charge. Additionally our experience with WIFI was not very good. There is a WIFI but username and password are both positioned badly in reception so only really visible once pointed out by owners. They are on bookshelf facing owners door and not very clear. Once we obtained the access details we also found that the WIFI chucked us out frequently and was not very usable. Only additional point is worth noting is that cars are generally not allowed beside pitches apart from setup and dismantled. Really feel very let down by the site and their approach. Mobile Phone charging should not be listed as a feature for this site. The lady owner did kindly apologise for the upset caused and explained about the goats which was appreciated but I still feel quite angry at the approach to mobile charging at this site and would not recommend anyone who wants mobile charging visit this site.

From the manager...

Hi were really glad you liked everything about our site, apart from the issues you had with charging your children's electrical equipment.

-We unplugged your phone because you used the freezer plug.
-We offed you to use our honesty charging points, because you refused to pay for the electric on your pitch.
-We reorganised our pitches so you could have your car next to your tent.
-We stayed calm, respectful and considered your needs in dealing with your ranting.

If charging your electrical equipment, was so critical to enjoying your camping experience with your children, Were bemused why you did not pay to use the electric on your pitch? The camping weather you had was perfect, were sad your resentment has carried on, we tried our best for you and your children.

nick and marilyn

We liked everything about this site. It was nice & peaceful & the ownews were very helpful & friendly. The facilities were always clean & never felt the need to use the posh bathroom. Our 10 year old daughter made some lovely friends during our weeks stay. Having the fire pits was nice at night. Some lovely beaches nearby especially Whitesands. Will definitely visit this site again.

A lot of thought had gone into the toilet/ shower block, which was very funky! The pitches were well spaced with lovely views and picnic tables to use, also the fab fire pits were perfect for an evening campfire. We looked forward to seeing the friendly goats and ponies as much as the children on the camp and loved giving them a stroke in the morning. The site is a perfect location for walks and close to the beautiful Blue Lagoon and St David's, which we really enjoyed visiting and very close to the coastal path.

We were given a beautiful pitch right next to the ponies, which my children loved. Views were incredible and the site had a great location for visiting st David's and Fishguard and the surrounding area. Our hosts were amazing, nothing was too much trouble. The facilities on site were so clean and well maintained, honestly couldn't fault it! Our pitch came with a picnic table and fire pit at no extra cost. This was my first camping trip with my children and now we're hooked, can't wait to go back.

    Disliked:

Wind on the second night of our stay was horrific! Our tent was in bits afterwards and we had no sleep! But that's the great British weather for you! Next time I will ask for a pitch that has a bit of shelter. Our tent was pretty cheap too, other people who had better tents, had no problems.

We found staying at the campsite was a delight! The fact that it was so quiet made it very peaceful indeed; the view of the sea and the coast was a breathtaking sight, and was lovely to wake up to. A very friendly Shetland Poney was brought round the camp sight by Marilyn- the camp sight owner, for the chrildren to see and Marilyn even let them hold onto the rains of the poney to walk with, but with her guindence if they were a younger one , which ovcouse was a great experience for them and it shows that the camp sight owners are very kind people and that they are very committed to making sure people have the best time at their camp sight which they certainly did! The two goats was lovely to see as well. The overall cleanness of the toilets was brilliant- same with the showers ,there was also one luxurious bathroom located at the entrance to camp sight owners house- which has got a lovely big shower which is very clean and easy to use there's also a very clean toilet and sink which you can use as well , it's a very nice experience to use that bathroom and it would be very useful if you have young chrildren! The two washing-up sinks was clean and convenient as well. The fact that there was an electric hook up was just brilliant and made our camping holiday so much more easier! We played games of Scrabble which was provided by the camp sight to play which made our family spend time together as a family which was a lot of fun! The location of the camsight is brilliant as we could easily go on walks tound the coast and have a sunny beach day at white sands, you could also have a nice dinner in places like St David's because Of the campsights brilliant Location! The fair rules that the camp sight has lets you have a peaceful stay and makes it a lovely environment to be in!

    Disliked:

Even though their was internet, you can only get it if your close to the owner house where you can't camp by! So we were a little bit annoyed by that and some paper towels to dry your hands on would be useful in the toilets as there wasn't any.

Directions

Coastal Stay is located in the western peninsula of the Pembrokeshire National Park, within a National Trust conservation area overlooking the sea. We are on the back road between St David's and Fishguard, on the B4583 (off the A487), in a small village called Llanrhian less than a mile from Porthgain and Abereiddy.

The campsite has a sign outside and a welcome notice board; there is a cattle grid over the entrance and often a little ginger cocker spaniel sleeping on the grass near the road. If you need any additional help getting here, just give us a call using the details provided in your booking confirmation and we will do our best to guide you to us.

Local attractions

St Davids, Britain's smallest city, is a few miles down the road and has plenty of places to eat and drink as well as a host of old treasures to see such as St Davids Cathedral and the ruins of the fourteenth century Bishops Palace; very decent surf at Whitesands Bay is available from here too.

Also famed in the region are the black sands and blue lagoon at Abereiddy Beach, and the fishing village of Porthgain, part of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path.

Take the walk from Abereiddy beach over the top of the Blue Lagoon and onto Porthgain, with a pitstop for a bite or drink before catching a bus straight back to the campsite.
