We’d be all of a dither about deciding days out if we were staying at decidedly relaxed Tregroes Touring and Camping Site on the north Pembrokeshire coast. Its closest sandy beach is a mile and a half away, and, as this is Pembrokeshire, a few weeks’ worth of award-winning sands are a pushover to get to from a Tregroes base.

Eats, shops and sightseeing are sorted at the old coastal town of Fishguard (and the local pub), within a 20-minute walk. And, although the site is set in quiet countryside, it’s close enough to the A40 that it’s decidedly simple to get to an abundant amount of north Wales attractions and activities – graceful St Davids, for example, is less than half an hour’s drive away. (Or we might pick to simply ditch the car and catch a bus or train from Fishguard.) And speaking of the old coastal town of Fishguard, Fishguard Harbour is where the Irish ferry departs for Rosslare – a week in Ireland either side of a Pembrokeshire camping holiday sounds decidedly Tre-mendous too.

Or we might just decide to stay on base, close to the spectacular scenery and wildlife-rich countryside of the Pembrokeshire coast and countryside, and lazing about by our campfire on an extensively-sized tent, tourer or motorhome pitch picked right where we pleased. (The kids, we feel, could run around expending energy in the ample space on site while we kick back under an awning with an aperitif watching the splendid Pembrokeshire sunset.)

Tregroes Touring and Camping Site has been family-run by its friendly easy-going team for over 30 years, so for those all in a dither about the choice of things to see and do nearby, just ask the staff for help in point your feet/car in the right direction.
