Pleasant, flat, clean site, new or refurbished large toilet / shower block. First visit, but looks like the owners are striving to improve the site.

    Disliked:

The showers :- everyone's bugbear - small cubicle, no dry area to change / hang your clothes. Coin fed from outside the shower cubicle, they start as soon as you enter the money, so if you aren't undressed ready you get your clothes wet, and of course no warning when they are about to run out. There was plenty of space, so how did they get this so wrong?
Though spotless on arrival Friday evening, the toilet block was a mess by Sunday morning with loo role at a premium -they need to be cleaned more frequently in busy periods.

From the manager...

Thankyou for leaving the review and we are glad you enjoyed the stay and would visit again. We are aware of the issues with the showers and they should be rectified within the next week. We had assumed a couple of basic things would be done when the contractors built the shower block but they were overlooked. Will be sorted within the week.
Thanks again

As we were first time campers we were unsure about it. We had read reviews and with the majority of them being very good we were excited. The reception and we,come were very friendly & the site itself is very beautiful. The people are all friendly and I got the impression most of them come a lot of the time &I were not first timers there. The pitch area was large & the showers and toilets were spacious and very nice. I would definitely come to this site again.

    Disliked:

I only really have one dislike & that's the amount of fly gnats in the toilet & shower area there were thousands but I guess this can't be completely helped. I didn't really see a cleaner there the whole weekend either the sinks & toilets were a bit dirty by the end.

From the manager...

Thankyou for the review. We appreciate all feedback and are glad you enjoyed your first time camping.

Lovely clean toilets and showers. Massive tent with light. Peaceful campsite. Very relaxing

    Disliked:

We didn't dislike this but you would need to drive to nearest pub or walk a couple of miles along country lane with no pavement

From the manager...

Thankyou very much for your kind review and we are glad you enjoyed your stay with us. There is a pub around a mile away and the last section does not have a pavement. There are also a couple of pubs in the other direction, they are slightly further at about a mile and a quarter but they do have pavements all the way. I do agree though as we usually drive unless we are feeling particularly fit!

Excellent customer service when we were lost and running late.
Good sized flat pitches clearly laid out and that allow more than 6 people on one pitch unlike a lot of other sites. Pleasant site and immediate surroundings. Lovely clean and fresh looking loo block. Close proximity to Monmouth. Very good prices against other sites. Cheap showers.

    Disliked:

noise from nearby road - not the main road but the one I thought would be a quiet country lane, but earplugs will help if you're not a great sleeper.

Local attractions

This is walking land… Monmouthshire has over 1,000 miles of public footpaths to investigate, and walks all over the county including a couple around Glen Trothy's local village of Mitchel Troy, through woods and farmland and with views right across Wales and across the border to Herefordshire.

County town Monmouth, the birthplace of Henry V, is these days a Fair Trade town with many independent shops, regular markets, cafés and restaurants alongside chain shops, the Monmouth Museum and the Savoy Theatre, believed to be the oldest working theatre in Wales.

If you'd rather get a bit more active, the River Wye is around for kayaking and paddleboarding (and fishing for more contemplative times), and golf is available nearby. Too tame? Take a tandem paraglide flight off the Blorenge hill in the Brecon Beacons National Park.

If the weather is a bit drizzly, piles of indoor attractions are around too, like the museums of Abergavenny, Monmouth or Chepstow or a castle visit to Caldicot and its country park, Tretower Court, Goodrich or Raglan.

Must see

  • Caldicot Castle & Country Park (1.6 miles)
  • Raglan Castle (5.1 miles)
  • Goodrich Castle (7.3 miles)

National Trust

  • The Kymin (2.3 miles)
  • Skenfrith Castle (6.6 miles)
