General

  • 1946 Austin Vintage truck with canopy
  • Set in 5 acre meadow with views over south Pembrokeshire
  • Cabin with hot water shower, basin, compost loo, sink. Picnic area

What's in a name.... Jonathan and Melissa Cox were looking for a lorry and saw this one for sale with their initials on it. J and M Cox - serendipity or what. It just had to be theirs.

The site is on a small traditional Welsh farm on the borders of Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire. The lorry, Branwen is sited along a hedge line in a 5-acre field of traditional pasture. This boho chic vintage lorry offers you a unique off-grid experience. The views down the Nant Colomendy are spectacular. You will be on your own there, under starlit skies by night offering tranquility and solitude.

There are red Kites nesting in the woods 200 metres away. A circular walk through our 8-acre wood will give you the chance to see badgers at night. The owners have a small flock of mountain sheep, and horses which you will see grazing in adjacent fields. Branwen has a rolling exhibition of their own artwork, with prints and originals for sale.

The lorry is heated by a wood-burning range made by a local blacksmith. Relax in splendid isolation and cook a pizza in the wood fired range. Adjacent to the beautiful lorry is a cabin with loo, shower and sink. Outside there is a picnic table, barbecue and open air sink for washing-up.

There is a Spar convenience store in the historic Village of Llanboidy 1.5 miles north, which is a brisk 20 minutes walk. Whitland 4 miles south has a Co-operative supermarket, butchers, baker, pharmacy and veg shop, tea rooms and a mainline station connecting to Carmarthen and Swansea/ Cardiff to the east and Haverfordwest, Tenby and Pembroke to the West.

Melissa and Jonathan are both artists. Tailor made tuition in sculpture, painting, and drawing at all levels may be available in their light and spacious studios if you are at all artistically inclined, and fancy combining your stay with some creative zest.

The location was absolutely superb, beautiful surroundings and views. The weather was also fantastic which meant we were able to take advantage of the brilliant barbecue facilities. The Lorry itself is beautiful and the bed extremely comfortable. The separate cabin with shower etc was also great. Jon and Melissa were so friendly and welcoming and made it a really unique experience we will definitely be returning. Thanks for a wonderful stay. Chloe & Jamie

From the manager...

It was a pleasure to welcome you both to Branwen, our Vintage Lorry. The weather as you say, was fantastic, and got even hotter and we had even bluer skys as the week went on!
We look forward to seeing you here again in the future. We now have some point of lay hens and so call down to the farmhouse if you fancy an egg for breakfast next time. Hopefully we won't be away at 5.00am with the horses! I can assure you that yolk is wonderfully yellow and the taste....

We met the owner who was very hospitable & showed us the ropes. The Lorry is decorated beautifully, it is rustic chic. You have everything you need there including crockery, utensils, bedding (even coffee).
You are completely private in beautiful Welsh countryside, you are not overlooked. The dogs loved it too.

    Disliked:

Unfortunately the weather was not great which is obviously no fault of the owners.

From the manager...

Thanks for your comments. I apologise for the Welsh weather! and look forward to seeing you again in the future.

Only downside was the weather we had - we'll be back to see it in good weather at some point

From the manager...

Hi Louise, well done for completing the Tenby marathon. The weather as you say was bad, but really glad you enjoyed your stay and the view awaits your next visit - hopefully when the sun is out. Thanks for being such great guests, Johnny and Melissa
